At the end of December, the first snow of the year fell in Huaizhou.

A biting cold wind enveloped the city from morning till night.

In the hospital.

Lin Tang had been waiting on the bench outside the ward for more than an hour.

When I came out of the institute in the evening and was about to go home, I suddenly saw an old man lying on the ground in front of me.

There are always pedestrians on both sides of the road, but nowadays such cases are endless. An elderly person collapses without any signs, and no one can guarantee whether it is real or fake. Therefore, most people tacitly stand away, afraid to avoid it.

Lin Tang had seen similar incidents before, where families of people had been sued and extorted for large sums of money because of a well-intentioned act. But something suddenly occurred to her, and she couldn't just sit back and watch.

What we should be thankful for and shouldn’t be thankful for is that the old man almost died due to a sudden attack of coronary heart disease, insufficient blood supply to the heart, and colic leading to shortness of breath.

At night, the hospital has fewer people, and in the quiet corridor, the sound of ward doors opening is particularly obvious.

The staff had just contacted the old man's family. She wanted to sit outside and wait for the family to arrive, and had no intention of going in to visit.

But the nurse told her that the old man had woken up and wanted to see his savior with his own eyes.

She stood up, holding a bill in her hand, with a string of numbers written on the back in black pen.

When she entered, the old man had already sat up, with a needle for an IV drip in his hand. The moment he saw her, he was obviously stunned.

Lin Tang leaned against the door, his usual arrogance gone. He looked at the man on the bed with gentle eyes and asked, "Master, are you still feeling unwell?"

This voice brought the old man back to his senses. He took a deep breath and smiled. "I'm much better now. Thank you, little girl, for saving my old life."

Lin Tang smiled faintly, trying his best to hide his usual sharpness: "Just kidding, it was the doctor who saved you. I just helped call an ambulance."

"What's your name, little girl? I'll let..."

The old man had more to say, but along with it came the sound of footsteps getting closer and closer in the corridor.

Lin Tang subconsciously glanced towards the end of the corridor. A man in a suit and tie was walking towards him. He was accompanied by someone who looked like an assistant.

The man had handsome features and a pair of almond-shaped eyes that added a touch of aggressiveness. His gaze was calm and indifferent, as if he didn't take anything into consideration.

A cool light shone from the ceiling. His steps were hurried, yet elegant. His reserved yet aloof demeanor spoke volumes about his status as a man of distinction.

As the figure gradually approached, Lin Tang withdrew his gaze and said to the old man calmly: "Your family is here, I have something else to do, so I will leave first."

She gave the old man another polite smile, then turned sideways and walked calmly towards the end of the corridor.

The hem of her long windbreaker swayed slightly as she moved. She put away her smile and stared ahead, not caring how striking the newcomer's presence was.

Several footsteps of different frequencies intertwined, and were particularly obvious in the silent corridor.

The moment they passed each other, they stopped in tacit understanding.

The man was the first to shift his gaze. The moment he saw her face clearly, his eyes narrowed subconsciously. But within a second, his expression returned to normal, and even a barely perceptible, sarcastic smile curled up at the corner of his lips.

When he came in, the nurse told him that someone had already paid the medical bills.

At this moment, it was not difficult for him to guess who the person the nurse was talking about. So he said slowly, "Thank you, young lady, for saving my grandfather's life. I will ask my assistant to pay you back the medical expenses later..."

Even more.

After all, it wasn't too late now, and she could have simply handed the old man over to professionals and left. But she didn't do that, instead waiting until the family arrived.

He could guess what was going on, but he didn't point it out.

But before he could finish his words, Lin Tang interrupted him: "Of course you have to pay it back."

She met the man's gaze, her eyebrows raised casually. Silence returned to the air, and in the silent confrontation, her aura was no less than that of the man before her.

The man was silenced by a brief sentence, and his frivolous eyes flickered for a rare moment. This answer was beyond his expectations.

Lin Tang had handed the payment slip to him. On the back of the slightly translucent paper, he could vaguely see a string of numbers written on it.

He turned his head and glanced at her. When he looked up again, she had already turned around and was walking along the predetermined route.

It seemed like she was just letting him know, but she didn't really care what he would do. She was really... so casual.

After staring at her back for a few seconds, he handed the bill to the assistant beside him, his eyes still fixed on her: "Use the bank card number on it to transfer the money back to her."

When I walked into the ward, the old man found a comfortable position and lay down again, but his eyes were still open.

The moment he saw who was coming, the old man called out leisurely: "Hey, Xiaochi, why are you here?"

Feng Chibai still treated Old Man Feng with some respect. He said calmly, "The hospital called me and told me not to go out for a walk alone if I'm not feeling well."

Feng Laoman laughed nonchalantly and teased him, "Are you worried about Grandpa's health, or are you worried about something else?"

Feng Chibai exhaled lightly, his voice dull: "Don't joke with your life."

Old Feng stopped teasing him and looked towards the empty doorway. He suddenly asked, "Did you see that little girl just now?"

"Well, thanks."

He had a hunch that maybe Old Feng wasn't referring to this matter, but he still pretended not to know and deliberately led the question in this direction.

After a moment of silence, Elder Feng replied, "That's good."

*

The next evening.

When Feng Chibai returned to the old house, there were several people sitting upright in the huge living room. All the people he hated had gathered together.

Mr. Feng sat in the center of the Chinese mahogany sofa, with the TV in front of him on, showing a live news channel.

The news bar at the bottom of the screen shows: This year's "Young Scientists Forum Conference" was held successfully.

He was not curious about why the old man was interested in this. After all, he would occasionally switch to the news channel to watch for a while.

In the solemnly decorated living room, only a few voices of conversation could be heard occasionally.

Wherever Mr. Feng is present, no matter how many ulterior motives everyone has, they always appear polite.

Everyone present knew clearly that the power of the Feng family was still in the hands of the old man, and he held the majority of the shares in Luochen Group.

The old man had said before that in two years, he would draw up a succession agreement and give up all the shares he held.

As for who this heir will be, it has not yet been determined.

The fact that someone was undetermined was enough to bring out the wicked ambitions of everyone in the Feng family. Even if they normally felt resentful of the old man, they had to behave themselves in front of him for the next two years.

The host's interview on TV continued.

Suddenly, a scene appeared and the old man's eyes lit up.

Everyone was very observant and caught his changes, and they all turned their eyes to the screen at the same time.

Along with this, a voice came from the loudspeaker: "Hello everyone, I'm Lin Tang, a technical researcher in the Astronomical Spectroscopy and High-Resolution Imaging Technology Laboratory at the Huaizhou Astronomical Research Institute."

The familiar voice made Feng Chibai glance sideways subconsciously.

The woman I saw in the hospital corridor last night suddenly appeared in the camera.

She wore a sign that said "Specially Invited Person" but in the grand conference hall, she was still wearing a casual and comfortable home outfit.

Her fair face was unadorned, and the long tails of her eyes gave her a sharp edge. Her lips curved, but unlike the gentleness she had shown yesterday towards Elder Feng, she showed her usual bold and arrogant demeanor.

"We all know that Ms. Lin Tang was awarded the National Young Women Scientist Award two years ago. She has also been involved in international astronomy collaborations over the years. I'd like to ask what your thoughts are on being invited to the Young Scientists Forum and listening to everyone's research presentations."

"The Young Scientists Forum has always been a platform for young astronomers to freely exchange ideas. The reports on their research results over the past few years have all contributed to the development of my country's astronomical field."

The astronomer in the picture did not seem to be being interviewed for the first time. She was not at all nervous and expressed her ideas openly and frankly.

Her identity was clearly beyond the old man's expectations. Her eloquent expression made him exclaim in admiration: "This little girl is really good. She saved my life yesterday. I must find a chance to thank her properly."

As soon as these words were spoken, the expressions on the faces of everyone present, except Feng Chibai, froze for a moment.

Everyone knew that something had happened to Old Master Feng last night, and that someone passing by had rushed him to the hospital for emergency treatment. Now that they had actually seen that person, the silent undercurrent was stirred up again.

It's not because her profession makes her shine, but because she looks a bit like Mr. Feng's first wife.

Mr. Feng is a sentimental man. After his first wife passed away more than 20 years ago, he never remarried.

Lin Tang's appearance will undoubtedly bring back his memories of the past.

The first time he collapsed on the roadside due to anemia, it was Grandma Feng who took him to the hospital.

Now, a little girl who looked somewhat similar to her took the same measures against him in the same situation.

It goes without saying that Mr. Feng has a good impression of the little girl.

It goes without saying what kind of decision the old man will make based on this good impression.

After all, back then, because Grandma Feng liked Feng Chibai's biological mother very much, Old Feng simply waved his hand and gave her 10% of the shares of Luochen Group as a betrothal gift.

The sound from the loudspeaker continued to come out.

After hearing Lin Tang's words: "The current focus is on the development of seamless spectrum component structure."

Elder Feng subconsciously looked at Feng Chibai and asked, "Xiao Chi, are you also collaborating on a project with the Astronomical Research Institute recently?"

Feng Chibai smiled and drank the tea in the cup slowly. He replied, "Yes, that's right..."

He shifted his gaze to the person on the screen, "The R&D product Ms. Lin mentioned."
