The next evening, a car stopped at the door of the Feng family's old house.
Feng Chibai was about to get off the car, but Lin Tang suddenly held her hand. She took a deep breath and said, "Wait a minute, I suddenly feel a little weird."
He glanced at her and asked in a low voice, "Nervous?"
Lin Tang sighed and said stubbornly, "We've met before, why should I be nervous?"
Even so, Lin Tang still felt very uncomfortable staying in someone else's home for the first time, especially since this family had left a bad impression on her the last time.
Feng Chibai patted the back of her hand soothingly: "Don't worry, we'll just greet each other and leave."
Lin Tang's eyes lit up: "Leaving? Then you asked me to bring my luggage as well."
Knowing that she had misunderstood, Feng Chibai smiled faintly: "When I say leave, I mean go back to the room."
Lin Tang: “…”
People are not fully prepared mentally at that moment.
So after some hesitation, she walked into the Feng family's old house without hesitation.
Feng Chibai had greeted everyone in advance, and now everyone was present in the living room, making it quite lively.
Without his prior training, Lin Tang knew how to control his temper in front of his elders and politely called the old man "Grandpa".
The old man liked her very much to begin with, and when he was called like that, a smile immediately broke out on his face.
Although we had met each other before, we were not very familiar with each other, so the old man asked everyone to introduce themselves to Lin Tang first.
Feng Yunjing was the last one to pass by. He hadn't taken his eyes off her since she came in.
The old man wanted to say that they knew each other and there was no need to say anything more. But before he could say anything, Feng Yunjing said, "Hello, Feng Yunjing."
He pronounced the last three words very slowly, as if afraid that she might not hear clearly.
Lin Tang glanced at him indifferently and nodded.
After a brief greeting, the servant dragged her luggage to Feng Chibai's room, and the two followed her up.
Although he was shocked enough by the structure of the living room when he saw it from below, Lin Tang couldn't help but be stunned again when he entered the room.
One room is as big as the house she rents.
Is this what a rich person is?
The servant brought in her luggage and then left. Feng Chibai locked the door.
The empty wardrobe had already been moved in during the day. Feng Chibai pointed at the wardrobe and said, "This is for you. Let's talk first. I'll have someone come up to help you clean up later."
After thinking for a moment, he added, "If you need anything, just tell me."
Lin Tang nodded, and while he was talking, he sat down on the carpet and opened his suitcase.
After thinking it over in her mind, she suddenly realized and raised her eyes: "Talk about business?"
Feng Chibai sat on the sofa not far away and spoke slowly: "Our family has its own rules. There are some things that need attention, so I still have to explain them."
Lin Tang raised his eyebrows and couldn't help laughing: "House rules? Don't talk nonsense, we don't have any at home."
Feng Chibai didn't get annoyed by her interruption: "Now that you're in my house, then I have it."
Lin Tang: “…”
She said nothing, continued to listen to his words, and continued to pack her things.
"Rule 1: Except on important occasions, drinking alcohol privately is strictly prohibited."
Just as he finished speaking, Lin Tang pulled out a sealed jar of plum wine from a corner of his suitcase. He had bought it earlier but hadn't had time to drink it yet, so he thought it would be a shame to throw it away and brought it with him.
The pink liquid in the glass bottle was very pretty. Lin Tang looked at it with satisfaction, but it seemed that he had not heard anything. After a few seconds, she raised the bottle of plum wine and said, "On this happy day, don't you want to drink a cup of wine together?"
Feng Chibai: "..."
He took a deep breath, remained calm and asked, "Did you hear what I said just now?"
"I heard you." Lin Tang replied nonchalantly, then pointed at the teacup in front of him, "Would you mind bringing me a cup? I'll have a sip first."
Feng Chibai: "..."
He felt mixed emotions, his throat churning, but he still picked up a teacup with stiff fingers.
He paused, then picked up another one.
Seeing him handing over two teacups, Lin Tang thanked him, unscrewed the bottle cap and poured him one cup first.
Feng Chibai lowered his eyes to look at the extra thing in his hand, was stunned for a moment, and did not move.
The moment he looked up, the man in front of him suddenly raised his cup and clinked it with his own teacup, then drank it all in one gulp and commented, "It tastes good."
Feng Chibai held his breath for a few seconds before taking a small sip. The first sip was filled with a pleasant rose scent, along with the sourness of green plums, and the alcohol content was quite high.
After finishing a cup slowly, he put the cup on the ground and said, "I won't call the servants up. You can clean up yourself."
After all, those people essentially still listen to the old man, and being discovered on the first night they arrived is really a bit tricky.
Lin Tang said "oh" and didn't take it to heart.
He stood up and continued, "Second, go downstairs on time at 7:30 in the morning to have breakfast with the old man."
This time, Lin Tang's mouth twitched: "...seven thirty? I don't usually get up this early."
Feng Chibai certainly knew that she replied to his message around eight o'clock yesterday morning. He guessed that she must have just woken up at that time.
So tonight I chose to communicate these things first: "Then adjust your schedule."
Lin Tang laughed dryly twice, not in a position to be manipulated. "What if I don't eat breakfast?"
"The old man might get angry, and that anger will most likely fall on me." Feng Chibai raised his lips slightly, "We now have a community of shared interests. Sui Sui... should choose to be understanding."
Lin Tang pursed his lips and chose to continue drinking.
Feng Chibai paused, then continued, "The third rule is that the gate to the old house will be locked promptly at 10:30 p.m. If you don't come back, you'll have to spend the night outside."
Lin Tang could still accept this; at most, he would just have to move to a different place to sleep. However, given this somewhat outrageous trend, she asked with a smile, "Do you have any other rules in your family that prohibit late-night snacks?"
She meant it as a joke, but she didn't expect Feng Chibai's smile to deepen: "Sui Sui is really smart. At least... not in this family."
Lin Tang choked, feeling as if she had been on a pirate ship. She narrowed her eyes and asked in a gentle voice, "Why didn't you tell us about these weird rules in advance?"
Feng Chibai hummed, and said without hesitation: "I'm afraid that if you knew, you wouldn't agree."
Lin Tang clapped his hands and forced a smile, "Feng... Chi Bai is really thoughtful."
Feng Chibai then continued to talk about several things, but Lin Tang was too upset to pay attention. He listened in one ear and out the other, and before he knew it, he had finished half a bottle of plum wine.
After he finished his rambling, she stood up with her pajamas in her hand and said, "Are you done? I'll go wash up first."
Feng Chibai hummed, then suddenly remembered something and added, "Tonight, we'll sleep in the same bed to avoid arousing their suspicion."
Lin Tang looked around and asked, "Are there any other beds here?"
Feng Chibai paused. He had originally wanted to say that, in order to avoid the old man's suspicion, even if they were contracted couples, they shouldn't sleep in separate rooms. But now it seemed that she didn't have that idea.
Suddenly remembering what Zhao Yingxun had said to him before, he nodded and didn't explain further.
After Lin Tang came out of the shower, Feng Chibai had no plans to make any more trouble tonight, so he went into the bathroom.
After putting her clothes in the closet, she sat on the sofa for a while, feeling a little bored, and glanced out the door. There was a piece of transparent glass at the top of the door, and she could see that the lights outside had gone out.
She had been a bit reserved when she arrived because there were so many people around, but now she suddenly became curious about the structure of this old house. So she opened the door and planned to take a quick look around.
Just after taking a few steps, I ran into someone head-on.
The air stagnated for a moment.
The two looked at each other, but neither of them wanted to speak.
After a long time, the person opposite was the first to break the quiet atmosphere.
"Lin Tang, did you marry him because you really loved him, or..."
In revenge for his deception.
He didn't dare say this out loud.
Lin Tang looked at him steadily for a few seconds, then said slowly, "I didn't marry him because of you."
Now that they were alone, Feng Yunjing suddenly couldn't face her as calmly as before. It seemed that he had to go over every word in his mind several times before saying it.
Since that meal that day, the two haven't exchanged a single word online. The most recent time they did was just a greeting downstairs.
It seemed that he had not had time to explain his behavior.
After hesitating for a moment, he opened his mouth: "I'm sorry, I..."
Before he could finish his words, Lin Tang interrupted him: "I told you, you don't need to explain to me."
Ying had told her about the Feng family. She knew that the man before her was the son of Feng Chibai's biological father's second wife. She also knew that his birth was not looked down upon by others.
Ying Yu said that most of the news reports about him described him as "the son of a mistress."
If he could find out, then everyone could find out. So she could imagine what his situation was like from birth to now.
Thinking back to the matter of "fighting for family property" that Feng Chibai had mentioned earlier, as well as the family relationships he revealed in his various conversations with Feng Yunjing, she vaguely understood it from a different perspective.
She no longer had the anger she had shown him the last time, and whispered, "I actually don't care that much about it anymore."
At the time, she was really prone to being angry, but as time passed and her emotions gradually calmed down, she didn't take it seriously anymore.
Feng Yunjing's eyelashes trembled, the corners of her lips slowly curved up, and her breathing was still a little unstable.
"Feng, Yun, Jing?" Lin Tang tilted his head and chuckled, "I think the McMahon Crispy Chicken is more palatable."
This time, Feng Yunjing hummed vigorously: "I think so too."
His worries gradually faded, and he rubbed his fingers together a little awkwardly. He took a breath and chuckled softly, "If you feel uncomfortable anywhere, you can always come to me."
"There's no need to trouble Fourth Brother with such a small matter." A voice suddenly came from behind.
Lin Tang subconsciously turned around to look. Feng Chibai was leaning against the door with his arms folded, his gaze fixed on the two of them. He then walked over to her, a smile playing on his lips, and said, "It's enough that she bothers me."
It seemed like whenever the two brothers met, their words were always filled with tension. Feng Yunjing's eyes suddenly grew sharp, and his smile took on a hint of mockery. "Third brother is so busy with all sorts of things every day, how could he be willing to bother with such trivial matters?"
"Or in other words," he paused, "how much sincerity can you give?"
These words were not just meant for Feng Chibai to hear.
After all, in his heart, Feng Chibai's plan for Lin Tang was the same as his own back then.
But he didn't know whether Lin Tang knew about this plan.
Feng Chibai chuckled, his expression expressionless: "That won't bother you."
Seeing that the atmosphere was not right, Lin Tang stood between the two of them. She put her arm around Feng Chibai's arm and said softly, "It's quite late. Didn't you say you should go to bed early?"
Feng Chibai slowly shifted his gaze towards her, nodded, and went into the house with her.
She sat on the sofa, glancing at him from time to time. His expression no longer had the sharp contrast from before.
If she thought about it carefully, she could actually understand it.
After all, their identities are there, and they can never get along.
After a moment of silence, she glanced sideways at Feng Chibai, who was sitting next to her, and said, "Are we a united front now? If I talk to him, would that be considered a betrayal?"
Feng Chibai said calmly, "Whoever you want to talk to is your freedom."
Lin Tang glanced at him unhappily: "Then why were you so aggressive just now?"
Feng Chibai smiled and said word by word, "Don't worry, I just simply can't stand him."
Lin Tang: “…”
Suddenly, he stood up and reminded her as he walked past her: "Go to bed early tonight and get up early tomorrow."
Lin Tang: “…”
She is not a person who likes to find fault. Now that the two of them are getting what they want, she will naturally try her best to play the role of wife.
The bed in the Feng family was very soft and comfortable, and Lin Tang slept soundly, a rare occasion.
But Feng Chibai couldn't sleep.
