Chapter 52

Chapter 52

Nine-year-old Li Lili carefully wrote her name on a brand-new math test paper. After finishing, she didn't continue with the test paper. Instead, she asked in confusion, "Daddy, Mommy, why do I have the surname Li?"

My dad's surname is Lin, and my mom's surname is Xu. Why don't I have the same surname as my dad or my mom? All my classmates have their parents' surnames, unlike me. I'm the most special one.

Lin Xiangshen touched his nose and said, "Ask your mommy about that."

Xu Weiwei's eyes suddenly turned fierce, and she said, "Ask your dad about this."

Lin Xiangshen coughed lightly, choosing to concede defeat, and explained, "It's like this, your mother and I have a very good relationship, and we've thought about whose surname you'll take after you're born for a long time."

Originally, I was thinking of giving you a surname that combines ours, like Lin Xu or Xu Lin. But that's a really unpleasant-sounding surname; they don't sound compatible at all. And since you're a girl, having that surname would easily invite ridicule, so I quickly gave up on that idea.

We feel it's not fair that you take my surname or your mother's surname. To be fair, we'll give you a new surname, since you're a completely new person.

Even though we are your father and mother, it can't stop you from being yourself. Why do you insist on taking our surname? There's no need for that.

Li Lili said helplessly, "But none of my classmates are like me. It's too strange of me. I don't know how to answer when people ask me about my surname."

Xu Weiwei said seriously, "If it's a question that makes you feel uncomfortable, then remain silent and don't answer."

Li Lili frowned and said, "Isn't that very impolite?"

Xu Weiwei explained, "The person who asked this question was impolite to you first, so why are you still being polite to them? Your silence is just your response."

Li Lili said seriously, "But this person might just be curious and have no ill intentions."

Xu Weiwei patiently explained, "You have the right not to respond to anything that makes you uncomfortable, whether it's intentional or unintentional."

Just like when we accidentally step on and kill a bunch of ants, their relatives want to take revenge on us, which is their right. It doesn't mean that we can shirk responsibility for our unintentional mistake.

Since the harm has already been done, the perpetrator bears responsibility. If the person who asked you the question made you uncomfortable, then that person is your perpetrator, and you are an innocent victim.

Then all your counterattacks are reasonable, even if they are excessive, they are just excessive self-defense. As long as you don't actively hurt others, Mommy and Daddy will always support you and stand by your side.

Of course, if you hurt others, Mommy and Daddy will still love you, but they will be heartbroken, feeling that they haven't raised you well enough, and that you've become a bad person who intentionally hurts others.

We hope you recognize your mistakes, have the courage to take responsibility, and don't be so unrepentant; that would be too ugly.

Of course, it would be best if you always remained a good person and never a bad one. However, if you did become a bad person, we would love you, but we wouldn't support you. Instead, we would send you to prison immediately. We are capable of turning down family members for the greater good.

So, never go astray, understand?

Li Lili snorted coldly and said, "I will not become a bad child. Mommy is too awful. I will stop loving Mommy for three minutes because Mommy actually doubts me."

Xu Weiwei shook her head, looking rather helpless, and said, "Okay, okay, Mommy was wrong. I shouldn't have doubted Lili. Mommy begs for forgiveness, okay?"

Li Lili glanced sideways at him, put her hands on her hips, and said, "Sure."

Lin Xiangshen smiled and said, "That's enough, little Li. You should do your math homework now, it's getting late."

Li Lili glanced at the clock hanging on the wall, screamed, and quickly started writing her math test.

The setting sun shone on a pot of pink roses beside the bed, and the evening glow lingered for a long time before departing.
