Chapter 10 Leaving Linshui County
Yuan was stunned by her son's question. She never thought that what she and her family had planned would be spread to the academy. When she thought that this matter might affect her son, Yuan became very anxious.
She didn't even bother to ask anyone to look for Cui Qingyi. She just threw herself on her son: "My son, it's nothing. Your sister is already married. She's no longer a member of our family. I won't let her influence you. Stop crying. Your crying breaks my heart."
Cui Wenxu was spoiled by Yuan and would make a fuss even if he was not justified.
He was not good at studying and was often scolded by the teacher. He had long been tired of the supervision of the academy, but Yuan usually obeyed him in everything except studying, and was strict with him, not allowing him to work hard for three days and rest for two days.
Now that he had a ready-made excuse, he insisted on staying at home for a few more days.
Yuan thought about it and then granted his wish: "Well, it's almost time for the rest day. My son has been studying hard, so I'll ask the kitchen to make some more delicious food for you to nourish you."
When the maid who had been hiding behind Cui's mother heard that Cui Wenxu, the troublemaker, was going to stay at home for a few more days, she rolled her eyes silently.
Cui Wenxu is already fifteen years old this year. He didn't read many serious books of sages in the academy, but he was very familiar with the matters between men and women. Whenever he saw a pretty girl in the mansion, he would go up to her and flirt with her, which was very annoying.
Unfortunately, there were not many young maids of the right age in the Cui family, which made it difficult for the two maids around Cui. Whenever Cui Wenxu came back, they would be harassed.
But Yuan, the mother, didn't take it seriously at all.
Cui Wenxu was coaxed by Yuan and was thinking about going out to play. He rolled his eyes and said that he wanted to go back to study. Upon hearing this, Yuan smiled and let him go.
The mother and son never mentioned Cui Qingyi again throughout the whole process, as if this person had nothing to do with them.
Even the maids who had always been by Yuan's side and knew that she favored the young master felt that she was terribly cold and indifferent.
Some of them were smart and had thought about just giving in to Cui Wenxu's wishes, hoping to become his master in the future. However, after seeing the attitude of the mother and son towards Cui Qingyi, they no longer had that idea.
Don't live a bad life and end up losing your life in the future.
Cui Qingyi left the Liang Mansion, and the master and servant went towards the passenger pier without stopping.
After exchanging the boat ticket with the boatman and sitting in the reserved room, Cui Qingyi finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Konjac followed his young lady onto the boat with a confused look on his face. He tentatively asked, "Young lady, have you forgotten that we are out of money? This boat fare is not cheap, is it?"
When they came back from Qinghe, they sat in a large bunk bed that held ten people. Although it was a bit crowded and the smell was not very pleasant, it was cheap. The boat fare from Qinghe to Linshui was only fifty cents per person.
Feeling that the boatman had started to raise the anchor and was shouting at the boatmen to take their positions, Cui Qingyi's heart completely fell back into her stomach.
She then took out a fifty-liang silver note from her underwear and handed it to Konjac.
"Who said we have no money? My lady, I have plenty of money. When we get to Dongping County, we can buy a house and a shop. From now on, it will be just the two of us, and we can live the way we want."
Konjac was completely stunned. She grabbed the banknote that was handed to her, turned it over and over for a long time, then looked at it against the sunlight. Then she said in surprise, "Miss, this is real, a real banknote."
Cui Qingyi looked at her with amusement. Fortunately, she knew to lower her voice.
Cui Qingyi's dimples appeared faintly at the corners of her mouth. "Of course it's true, Miss, how could I lie to you?"
What Konjac was worried about was that the two of them were penniless and would not be able to make a living if they left the Cui family. Now that she saw that Cui Qingyi could still come up with money, the pressure in her heart completely disappeared.
"Miss, didn't you say that you sold both shops? Where did you get the money?"
Seeing the boat getting farther and farther away from Linshui, Cui Qingyi was no longer afraid that Konjac would be unable to hide the truth, so she told Konjac everything.
When she got married, as soon as the wedding sedan entered the Chen family's gate, she found out that Chen Linan had a childhood sweetheart cousin. If it weren't for her, the Chen family's young lady would have been that girl.
She clearly knew nothing, yet she became the villain who broke up other people's lovers.
Cui Qingyi was unhappy because she had just entered the door and was given such a big trouble.
Although she is a soul that came thousands of years later, she has no ambition and just wants to live a simple life.
She had no sense of belonging to the Cui family. She married in accordance with her parents' orders in the hope of having a home that truly belonged to her. She also hoped to live a life of harmony with Chen Linan.
But Chen Linan's behavior is really disgusting. He knew that he was engaged, but he was still unclear with his cousin. He clearly didn't want to marry her, but he kept silent in the past few years.
He didn't have the courage to fight his parents, but instead took out all his anger on an innocent person like her. In Cui Qingyi's opinion, such a person is not a man!
From that moment on, Cui Qingyi no longer had any expectations for this husband whom she had only met a few times.
On the wedding night, Chen Linan was drunk and had a reluctant look on his face, as if he wanted to remain a virgin for someone. However, it seemed as if someone was forcing him to undress and spend the bridal chamber with her, which made Cui Qingyi feel very disgusted.
Such an irresponsible person is not worthy of trust at all. Cui Qingyi no longer has the idea of having children with him. Having such a confused father would make it a suffering for her to have children.
In addition, Cui Qingyi had just reached the age of 15, and her body had not yet fully grown. She had wanted to have a good discussion with Chen Linan at night and wait until she was two years older before consummating the marriage, but there was no need for that now.
Chen Linan was still young after all, and Cui Qingyi only mentioned the cousin in front of him, and he became angry and went out with his bedding.
From then on, whenever Chen Linan couldn't bear the pressure and came to her room, she would definitely tell him about the cousin to disgust him. As a result, the two of them grew tired of each other, and with the cousin's constant instigation, Cui Qingyi remained a virgin until their divorce.
As for the two shops that came with her as a dowry, when Chen's mother openly or secretly asked her to hand them over to the government for management, she found a way to sell them to avoid attracting thieves.
Cui Qingyi saved all the hundreds of taels she earned from selling the shop.
In the past few years, the master and servant have been spending the monthly salary given by the Chen family and the money they brought from the Cui family.
After hearing this, Konjac's eyes widened. She and the young lady were together every day in the Chen family, but she had no idea about these things.
Seeing Konjac's eyes flushed red, Cui Qingyi changed the subject:
"Then tell me, would you rather live in the Chen family or the Cui family, or would you rather live a free life with me, young lady?"
Cui Qingyi stared at Konjac without blinking. She was a cold-hearted person. If Konjac still coveted the good life in the Chen and Cui families, then when they arrived in Dongping County, she would definitely find a way to send her away. She couldn't keep someone who had two hearts towards her by her side.
Konjac didn't notice Cui Qingyi's abnormality. She thought about staying alone at Chen's or Cui's house, and shuddered at the thought.
"No, no, I must follow the lady."
