Chapter 17 Black Dog

Chapter 17 Black Dog

In Cui Qingyi's opinion, Yuan appears to be smart but is actually extremely confused. She controls the accounts of the Cui Mansion, and the important managers in the mansion are all people she brought from her mother's family. These people are indeed loyal, but when it comes to real interests, who wouldn't be jealous?

Let's talk about the Chen family. The Chen family is a big family in Qinghe City. Several brothers of the Chen family and a large number of masters live in one mansion. Just dealing with daily interpersonal relationships consumes most of the energy of the mistress of the house. Naturally, she has no time to personally investigate the prices outside.

Not long after Cui Qingyi married into the Chen family, she discovered that the Chen family's inner household accounts were in a mess. Fortunately, Chen's mother was always thinking about her niece from her mother's side and never wanted her daughter-in-law to have any access to the power of housekeeping.

Cui Qingyi also enjoyed peace and quiet, so she was unwilling to get involved in the Chen family's fight.

After hearing Cui Qingyi's words, Konjac tutted, "No wonder Madam Cui always complains about the high expenses in the mansion. It seems everyone is eating eggs laid by golden chickens, which cost twenty cents each."

Cui Qingyi was amused by her words. It was indeed an egg laid by a golden chicken. However, Yuan had the support of her mother's family and was very wealthy, so she probably wouldn't care about this little money.

After breakfast, Cui Qingyi rolled up her sleeves and took a small shovel to shovel the moss in the yard. The yard was already wet, but now it had grown a lot of weeds and moss. It looked slippery, as if it was by the water, making people feel uncomfortable all over.

Konjac saw this and quickly stopped her: "Girl, let me do it."

Cui Qingyi waved her hand nonchalantly: "Go ahead and do your thing. From now on, we'll be relying on each other. Do you think you'll have to do all the housework by yourself? You'll be exhausted to death."

Konjac didn't think it was a big deal. Before she entered the Cui Mansion, she followed the adults to pull weeds in the fields when she was three years old. After entering the Cui Mansion, she would be assigned to do the work whenever there was a shortage of manpower.

This little bit of work is nothing to her now.

But seeing the girl squatting on the ground shoveling seriously, she didn't insist. It's good to be busy. When you are busy, you won't always think about trivial things.

After putting away the fish, shrimps, and vegetables they had bought, Konjac also joined in with a small shovel. The two of them spent a quarter of an hour clearing away the moss growing everywhere in the yard, but inevitably a lot of marks were left on the ground, which was a bit unsightly.

“Huh~”

Cui Qingyi looked at the yard which had become much fresher, straightened up and took a long breath. Miss Jiao had been working for too long, and her arms and legs were sore after doing such a small job.

After resting for a while, the two changed into clean clothes and prepared to go out. Cui Qingyi wanted to go to the street to see if there were any puppies for sale, so that they could bring one back to look after the house.

Just as I finished cleaning up, there was a knock on the door.

Konjac went to open the door. A woman with a long face and wearing a gray cloth was standing outside. "Oh, there really is someone here."

The woman looked to be in her thirties, and she looked at the two people in the yard without any scruples. Konjac stepped forward to block the woman's gaze from looking at Cui Qingyi.

She said in a somewhat unhappy tone: "What's the matter with you?"

I don't know if she was slow or just pretending to be stupid, but the woman didn't seem to notice the unhappiness on Konjac's face and kept talking to herself:

"You guys bought the Wang family's house. I heard people in the alley say that I thought they were joking. The Wang family's house is unlucky. Were you scammed by that broker?"

Cui Qingyi didn't miss the resentment in the woman's eyes when she looked into the yard. She pushed Konjac out and closed the door behind her. "Auntie, we still have to go shopping, so we can't entertain you."

The woman's smiling face quickly fell. This little girl really didn't know etiquette. She came here in person but she didn't even invite her in to sit down.

But seeing that Cui Qingyi and the other girl were clean and their clothes were made of good material, and as far as she knew, the Wang family's house was not cheap in the pawnshop, these two little girls must be rich, so it would be better not to offend them for the time being.

"Oh, then go ahead. My house is right next door to you. Come sit in our yard when you have time." The woman pointed to a small house not far away.

"Okay, thank you, Auntie. We'll be leaving first."

Watching Cui Qingyi and the other person walk away, the woman spat on the ground and said viciously, "Bah, two ungrateful little bitches."

When they walked out of the alley, Konjac looked back and saw that the woman was still standing there staring at them. She couldn't help but feel uneasy: "Girl, that person is still in front of our house."

Cui Qingyi didn't turn around: "Don't worry about her. Since we are neighbors, we will probably have many opportunities to meet in the future. It's enough to just be polite."

Cui Qingyi didn't know where to buy dogs, so she asked several people along the way. Finally, a peddler carrying a load on his shoulder and hawking his wares on the street showed them the way:

"Go towards the city gate. There's a mule market set up by the county government. Occasionally, people will bring their own dogs to sell."

After expressing their gratitude, the two men followed the direction of the city gate and arrived at the mule market. The so-called mule market was actually an area marked out near the bottom of the city wall for the surrounding people to trade livestock.

There are mules, oxen and donkeys.

The smell of the mule market was not very pleasant on a hot day. When Cui Qingyi and Konjac walked in, most of the people leading their livestock just glanced at them and did not come forward to greet them.

They walked all the way to the innermost part of the mule market, but didn't see any dogs for sale. Cui Qingyi wasn't disappointed and planned to come back in two days. Just as they were about to return the same way, Cui Qingyi made eye contact with a black dog lying quietly at the feet of a mule.

The black dog's eyes were fierce, and Cui Qingyi's heart skipped a beat at the mere sight of them, but she couldn't help but stop in her tracks.

Konjac followed Cui Qingyi's gaze, covered his chest and took a few steps back.

She pulled Cui Qingyi's sleeve and said, "Girl, let's buy a puppy. This dog looks fierce."

Cui Qingyi also felt that the dog's eyes were too fierce and it certainly didn't look like a friendly dog.

At that moment, the mule's owner came over and saw the two little girls staring at the big black dog. He waved his hand and said, "You want to buy a dog? This dog is not good. It's too fierce and bites people. Let the owner break its legs. I bought it home to eat meat."

No wonder he was lying on the ground. Cui Qingyi took a closer look and then turned and left.

There are many people in the alley, so raising a dog to guard the door may be just to scare people, but if it bites someone, it will be more trouble than it's worth.

No one noticed that the black dog with a broken hind leg kept staring at the direction Cui Qingyi left, and only buried its face in its front paws and fell asleep when it could no longer see anyone. If you looked closely, you could see that its whole body was shaking because of the pain in its hind legs.

Since they didn’t buy the puppy they wanted, the two of them walked around the street and bought some things they needed for their family.

"Girl, look!"

Konjac pointed to a conspicuous footprint on his front door and said angrily, "It must be that woman."

Cui Qingyi looked at the footprints on the gate, frowned, and felt unhappy. It was because he had seen that there were only two girls at home, her and Konjac, and had bad intentions.

"Don't worry about it for now, just go in." Cui Qingyi took a breath.

Not far away, Feng was hiding behind her door, watching Cui Qingyi and Konjac enter through the crack. She snorted disdainfully, "You two damned girls, how dare you give me a hard time?"
