Chapter 20 Uninvited Guests
"And buy some mutton bone soup."
"good."
Cui Qingyi watched Konjac carrying the basket out of the house. Just as she was about to get up and go to the kitchen to light the stove, she heard a short scream from outside the door.
Without even bothering to open an umbrella, Cui Qingyi put on her shoes and ran out the door.
"Konjac, what's wrong?"
"Girl, don't come out."
Konjac had long forgotten about the thing that had been trying to pry open the door that morning. As soon as she opened the door, she was startled by a dark mass in the corner and screamed. She clutched her chest and, before she could recover, saw Cui Qingyi running out. She quickly blocked the doorway, her voice trembling as she told Cui Qingyi not to come any closer.
Cui Qingyi was blocked. She followed Konjac's gaze and also saw a ball of pitch-black fur.
Cui Qingyi subconsciously thought that someone in the alley disliked her and Konjac, and took advantage of the rain when no one was around to come over and do something bad.
This dark mass of fur is from an unknown animal.
But the next second, she saw that the dark mass was slightly moving, it was alive.
When I couldn't breathe, life seemed even more terrifying.
"Konjac, come in first and get a stick."
Konjac didn't notice at all that the ball in the corner was a living thing. After coming to his senses, he obediently turned around and went to the woodshed to get a stick.
Cui Qingyi stretched out her stick to probe through the wooden door. Konjac nervously grasped Cui Qingyi's clothes, ready to rush forward if anything went wrong.
The stick touched the dark fur, but there was no reaction. Cui Qingyi pokes harder, and a faint, muffled humming sound like a mosquito or fly comes from the fur. Konjac then realizes belatedly, "Girl, it's alive."
Isn’t it alive!
Cui Qingyi looked into a pair of droopy, lifeless dog eyes. She recognized them. "It's the black dog we saw at the mule market yesterday."
Hearing this, Konjac quickly looked closely and exclaimed in surprise, "It really is! It escaped from that person's hands."
Cui Qingyi glanced at the jagged end of the noose around the dog's neck. "It probably bit the rope and ran away when no one was paying attention. It's getting late, go buy some mutton first, and remember to buy some extra bones."
Konjac hesitated and didn't want to go. She had seen it with her own eyes yesterday. The dog was very fierce. "Girl, I'd better stay at home with you. What if the dog bites someone?"
Bite? Cui Qingyi stretched out her stick and poked the dog's head, motioning for Konjac to see for herself: "It's sick and dying, how could it have the strength to bite? Hurry up! It's getting dark and the road is difficult to walk on."
Konjac had no choice but to pick up the basket she had thrown on the ground and said, "Girl, lock the door from the inside and don't let the dog get in."
The mule's owner had said yesterday that the dog's hind legs had been broken, and it looked like it was dying. Konjac was no longer afraid of it and shouted, "Go away, go away! If I come back and see you here, I'll beat you."
The black dog hiding in the corner closed his eyes and turned a deaf ear.
Seeing Konjac walk away, Cui Qingyi looked at the half-dead black dog again and prepared to close the door. She was not a compassionate person. A dog that could bite people would not live for many hours, and she was not going to cause trouble for herself.
But just as the door was about to close, a dark shadow rushed into the yard at lightning speed, and then quickly went into the open woodshed.
Although he was dragging a broken leg, his movements were extremely fast. Cui Qingyi would never believe it if he hadn't planned it in advance.
Looking at the black dog that had curled up into a ball and hidden herself in the firewood pile, Cui Qingyi laughed angrily. This was the first time in her two lifetimes that she was being depended on by a dog.
When people get angry, they become bolder. Cui Qingyi completely forgot that she was scared by the dog yesterday. She picked up the stick on the wall and prepared to drive out the uninvited guy.
"You bastard, people bully me, and now you, a beast, dare to bully me, don't you?"
Cui Qingyi was holding a stick and looking very aggressive. Before she even got close to the black dog, the black dog hiding in the woodshed started to cry out, and its body, which was drenched by the rain, began to tremble uncontrollably.
Cui Qingyi stopped a few steps away, tightening and loosening the stick in her hand, and finally cursed in frustration: "Forget it, why bother with you, a piece of shit."
Seeing the fierce woman walking away with the stick, the wooden door that isolated it from the outside closed again, and the black dog buried its head in its front legs stealthily.
Konjac bought a leg of lamb and a few cleaned bones from the shop and hurried home. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the black dog was gone from the door. She had been terrified the dog might have died on her doorstep. As soon as she opened the door, she couldn't wait to share the good news with Cui Qingyi.
"Girl, the dog is finally gone. It was so scary."
........
A few breaths later, the master and servant stood in the yard, and Konjac suggested, "Miss, how about I go and drive it out?"
Cui Qingyi didn't care, so Konjac took a stick and prepared to drive away the uninvited guest. Cui Qingyi watched coldly, and before Konjac got close, the dead dog, which had been pretending to sleep, immediately started to bark mournfully.
The cry was so sad and miserable that even a heartless person like her almost shed tears. As expected, Konjac, who had just been trying to drive the dog away, stood still. After a while, she turned and looked at Cui Qingyi who was watching the excitement.
"Girl, why don't you let it spend the night in the woodshed?"
Ha~ Cui Qingyi sneered.
"Let's cook,"
The mutton pot is simple to prepare, but the soup takes time. The two of them worked together to stew the chopped lamb bones in the pot, while Konjac washed the vegetables and Cui Qingyi sliced the lamb legs.
The mutton for hot pot must be cut into even thickness to taste good. After most of the mutton leg meat is sliced and placed on the plate, the mutton bone soup in the pot begins to bubble.
Put the chopped ginger and green onions into the pot and stew them together. Watch the bone soup gradually become thick and white. In addition to the faint smell of mutton, the air is filled with the fresh aroma of lamb.
After the soup was cooked, it was transferred to a small casserole. Konjac put charcoal on the stove and placed it in the yard. The two of them ate mutton hotpot in the yard in the evening.
Smelling the fragrant smell of mutton in the air, the black dog in the woodshed could hardly control its drooling, but it still lay there motionless, as if it were a dead dog.
While eating, Cui Qingyi looked into the woodshed several times.
Looking at the way the dog rushed into the house, it won’t die for a while.
Cui Qingyi sweated a lot during the mutton hotpot, and the chill brought by the autumn rain was swept away. She drank a few sips of cold wine and felt so comfortable that she just wanted to sigh.
"What a pity, it's not spicy."
Konjac also drank several cups. She had an average alcohol tolerance and was confused at the moment, not caring at all about the spicy taste of her lady's mouth.
After all, they were at home, and no one would know even if they didn't wash the dishes after dinner. The two of them simply put the dishes in the kitchen and went back to their room to sleep under the smell of alcohol.
After drinking and eating so much mutton, Cui Qingyi felt that she had only slept for less than an hour before she was woken up by thirst. She stayed in bed for a while, without asking for konjac, and got up to get some water from the kitchen.
Perhaps because she was in a good mood after eating well and sleeping well, and thinking of the mangy dog that refused to leave her house, Cui Qingyi took the candlestick and went to the woodshed.
