Chapter 4 Action

Chapter 4 Action

She was determined not to separate from the young lady.

Cui Qingyi smiled. There was a shallow dimple on her cheek, which was not visible when she was not smiling. When she smiled, the dimple appeared and she looked quite playful.

Cui Qingyi's face is not considered to be the top beauty, and it does not even meet the traditional definition of beauty that people have nowadays. However, Cui Qingyi feels very satisfied every time she sees her face in the bronze mirror. Her pair of lychee eyes are big and bright, and her oval face is smart and playful, exuding a full sense of vitality. She likes it.

Yuan was not satisfied with her face and always wanted to make up for it in other ways. Therefore, since she was a child, Cui Qingyi followed various aunts to learn etiquette.

At first, she felt that her mother Yuan loved her very much and took great care in raising her.

But she had lived for so many years after all, and Yuan didn't want to hide it, so she gradually saw through Yuan's hidden thoughts. Especially after Yuan went through untold hardships and gave birth to Cui Wenxu, a male heir, she completely lost her patience with her biological daughter who almost made her unable to have children.

Cui Qingyi still remembers that when Cui Wenxu was just born, Yuan dragged her weak body to call her to the bedside and instilled in her every day the idea that she owed Cui Wenxu and Yuan, and that when she grew up, she should put her younger brother Cui Wenxu first in everything.

The little affection between mother and daughter was slowly eroded by Yuan's nagging, and finally disappeared without a trace.

Cui Qingyi hated both Yuan and Cui Wenxu.

If Cui Wenxu is a good person, Cui Qingyi will not rule out helping him within her ability, and in the future they can rely on each other in this era.

However, under Yuan's teachings, Cui Wenxu developed an extremely selfish character. In his eyes, she was not like his sister, but more like a servant who had signed a contract to sell herself. She deserved to be sucked dry all her life.

Cui Qingyi didn't dare to expect such a person to lend a hand when she was in trouble in the future.

Yuan was not a very smart person. She was thinking of sending her back to Chen Linan as a concubine. Besides, she no longer had a shop to rely on, so Yuan would soon think of other ways to squeeze out the surplus value from her.

It seems that she has to add fuel to the fire.

Yuan didn't understand Cui Qingyi at all, but Cui Qingyi knew Yuan very well, and her weakness was too obvious.

Yuan had just casually mentioned her illness, intending to make Cui Qingyi feel guilty and soft-hearted. However, Cui's mother went back and told her the whole story. When she heard that the two shops that came as a dowry were gone, Yuan felt a lump in her chest and tossed and turned all night without falling asleep.

When she was preparing a dowry for Cui Qingyi, she prepared things that looked good on the surface but were actually worthless and were in the way wherever they were placed. If Mr. Cui had not been so concerned about his reputation and insisted that she allocate two items from his own shop to add to the dowry, she would never have given the shop to Cui Qingyi.

She had intended to save these things for Wenxu's future use. Now, both of her profitable shops were gone.

After being angry all night, Yuan woke up in the morning with a buzzing headache and felt very uncomfortable.

Mother Cui also didn't sleep well. Although she was a servant, she was Yuan's dowry. She could only be well if Yuan was well. Cui Wenxu was the common hope of both of them.

It was heartbreaking to see that things belonging to Cui Wenxu were gone.

"Madam, what do you think we should do with the young lady?"

Yuan's head ached whenever she heard Cui Qingyi's name. She waved her hands impatiently, "Don't worry about her. Just let her live outside. This girl has become more and more arrogant after being married for a few years. I'll take this opportunity to teach her a lesson."

Yuan also figured it out. After all, Cui Qingyi is the daughter of the Cui family. No matter what she does, it will have an impact on Cui Wenxu's reputation in the future. Since this is the case, she must choose the path that maximizes her benefits.

Cui Qingyi is nineteen years old this year and will be twenty soon. She is unable to have children, so it is impossible for her to find a man of similar age and good family background to marry into. However, there is no guarantee that those who are old and have lost their wives will not choose her as a concubine.

If all else fails, she can still find a noble family and find a way to get Cui Qingyi in as a concubine, so that she can help Wen Xu more in the future.

After realizing this, Yuan was no longer anxious. She remembered what Mother Cui said about the master and servant having only ten taels of silver left on them. She would wait until they suffered outside and then return to the Cui Mansion, and then she would be able to do whatever she wanted to them.

It is really heartbreaking to see the mother and daughter do this.

Cui Qingyi did not stay quietly in the inn. She had some friends here before she got married. Now that she was back, she naturally had to send a note to inform them.

Konjac hesitated as she held a stack of invitations: "Miss, I'm afraid those people don't want to see me."

Cui Qingyi couldn't help but chuckle when she heard her say this: "When did you learn to beat around the bush? Your daughter's status is indeed awkward now, so it's normal that others don't want to see her. Just go and submit the invitation, don't worry about anything else."

Seeing that her young lady didn't care at all, Konjac felt relieved. She didn't care, but she was afraid that her young lady would feel sad.

Konjac was out for a long time and only handed out three of the letters in his hand.

Cui Qingyi had expected this situation. Seeing Konjac's face full of anger, she just smiled and told her to hurry up and wash up and have lunch. They, the master and servant, would have a lot of things to do in the next few days.

In less than a day, the news that the eldest daughter of the Cui family in the west of the city was divorced by her husband and was rejected by the Cui Mansion when she returned home spread throughout the city.

Another day or two passed,

Mr. Cui was attending a party with friends outside, and he looked confused when someone asked him about this.

A friend even counseled him earnestly: "Brother Cui, although your daughter was divorced, she is still your biological child, isn't she? You shouldn't be too harsh on her. Just give her a few words of advice, but how can you not let her go home?"

Mr. Cui was shocked, and then filled with anger towards Cui Qingyi. Compared to his biological daughter Cui Qingyi, he preferred his son-in-law Chen Linan because the latter made him proud.

But now......

Mr. Cui didn't even have time to drink. He rushed back home as if his butt was on fire and went straight to Yuan's yard.

When the people in the main courtyard saw Master Cui's expression, they knew that the two masters were going to have another quarrel today, and they all pricked up their ears to listen to the noise in the house.

Yuan was being helped by Mother Cui while she drank medicine. The medicine was bitter and she frowned. When she saw Mr. Cui coming in angrily, she understood what was going on.

But she didn't care at all. She had her son and her family's support, so she was very confident.

"I'm asking you, was the eldest girl really divorced? Why didn't anyone tell me?"

Yuan gave him a cold glance and ignored her. Mother Cui explained, "Madam sent people to look for you several times, but you were never free to meet the people in our courtyard, so you didn't know."

Mr. Cui choked, and his originally high spirits suddenly subsided.
