Ye Jia slept soundly all night. The temperature and humidity in the room were just right, and the quilt was soft and new, without any fragrance. But this seemed better than smelling a fragrance that she might not like.

She had a dream in the middle of the night where she was hugging a naked man with broad shoulders and a narrow waist from behind, pressing her face against his back and touching his deep scar with her lips.

When Ye Jia was woken up by her phone alarm, she found drool dripping onto her pillow. She quickly reached out and wiped it off, feeling completely dazed.

After turning off the alarm clock, Ye Jia looked out the window at the still somewhat gloomy sky, lost in thought for a moment, before immediately getting out of bed.

She opened the door carefully, making as little noise as possible before going out, not wanting to run into Gu Anzhou and be seen.

Fortunately, Ye Jia did not run into anyone directly. She only saw Gu Anzhou cooking with his back to her when she passed by the kitchen.

That was terrible! Luckily, he was wearing clothes and an apron.

Ye Jia hurriedly slipped into the bathroom, washed her face, brushed her teeth with toothpaste that had a very mild mint flavor, and shook her head at herself in the mirror.

What a sin! Last night she was thinking that Gu Anzhou must be a policeman, and she had such a disrespectful dream about the people's police. Is that right?

When Ye Jia came out of the restroom, Gu Anzhou came out with breakfast.

"Perfect timing, time for breakfast."

"Thank you, you've gone to so much trouble."

Gu Anzhou put down his plate and looked at Ye Jia, whose tone had inexplicably become distant and polite after a night's sleep: "Didn't you sleep well?"

"No, no, it's great. Thanks to you for fixing the air conditioner, and the bed was made so nicely too." Ye Jia didn't even dare to look at him, and thanked him earnestly.

"It's nothing, let's eat."

"But I'm sorry, I want to exercise first, otherwise I won't have an appetite."

"It's not convenient to go out yet," Gu Anzhou said, looking out the window. "But we can exercise on the terrace together."

There's no need to go together.

Ye Jia wondered if the police officers were all particularly attentive to service, as they wouldn't leave her to do things alone. She could only nod and follow them to the covered terrace, where she did some simple exercises like running in place and high knees to wake up her body.

Gu Anzhou stood to the side and imitated her movements, doing them along with her.

The kittens kept pouncing on them, playing games with their moving feet. Ye Jia was afraid of stepping on them, so she didn't dare to move too much.

Xiao Bai launched a sneak attack, causing Ye Jia to stumble and fall to the side, where Gu Anzhou grabbed her arm.

Ye Jia looked down at Xiao Bai, who was running away again and seemed a little smug. She didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She steadied herself and let go of Xiao Bai's arm.

“Xiaobai is still at a mischievous age,” Gu Anzhou said.

"So cute." That made her feel really awkward.

Ye Jia dared not move her feet, and after moving her shoulders for a while, she said it was okay.

Gu Anzhou watched her walk away. He had always known she was very thin, which was evident even in her loose clothes, and it was even more noticeable when he held her in his hand, yet he could also feel her remarkable strength.

Gu Anzhou gave her more eggs and bread, and Ye Jia exclaimed, "That's enough, that's enough."

"So you go home for breakfast every day after your run?"

“Yes, it’s a habit.” Ye Jia hesitated for a moment while eating the egg, but still said it without minding. “My family is very poor. We live in the mountains. The school provides free nutritious breakfasts. Every day I get up early and run several kilometers of mountain roads, and then eat breakfast at school. I’ve been doing this ever since.”

Gu Anzhou realized for the first time that it was no wonder she could sense a very steady strength in her. She didn't cry out in pain when she fell off her bike last time, and she didn't ask for help this time. She went out in the pouring rain without complaining at all. It turned out that she had experienced much more difficult things than these, but she didn't seem to think it was difficult at all.

Seeing his silence, Ye Jia smiled and said, "Are you thinking about how to comfort me?"

Gu Anzhou shook his head: "I just think you're very capable."

Ye Jia was taken aback, then smiled even more deeply: "It seems quite impressive."

"What about lunch and dinner?"

"Lunch is provided at school, it's not free, but it's not expensive either. I have to go home for dinner. My dad is a great cook, and the vegetables he grows are delicious. They smell especially good when he stir-fries them, and I always eat a lot of them."

“If you learned to cook from your dad, then I believe your dad is indeed a very good cook.”

Ye Jia laughed heartily: "I learned from my dad and also inherited from my mom."

Gu Anzhou knew that although Ye Jia wasn't interested in him, he was still very curious about her and had many questions he wanted to ask, but he didn't know how to ask them without offending her.

Ye Jia had never told anyone these things, not even when she liked Han Lanchuan. But she probably had a certain level of trust in Gu Anzhou, so she told him, and even felt a desire to continue confiding in him.

However, there are many things that are inconvenient to say, and if I did, he would probably be troubled about how to comfort her.

Moreover, Ye Jia is more curious about his affairs than about herself, and wants to know if her guess is correct.

But then I remembered the previous failed attempts to probe him. Since he was deliberately hiding it, he probably didn't want anyone to know. This profession is indeed quite sensitive.

In the end, she chose not to ask.

The two fell silent again, as if by unspoken agreement.

After we finished eating, the rain subsided, the sky began to brighten, and the typhoon seemed to have moved on.

After changing into her own clothes, Ye Jia felt she could walk back under her own umbrella, and she expressed this wish to Gu Anzhou.

Gu Anzhou asked her, "Don't you need internet for work today?"

"No need. Yesterday I was doing real-time testing with the client. Today I only need to upload some things. It's enough for me to ask Chu Nian to turn on my hotspot. I'll bother you again next time I need something."

"Okay." Gu Anzhou picked up his car keys. "Then I'll take you home."

"No need, I'll just walk back. I didn't exercise today anyway."

"I was just about to go out to ask if anyone needed help. Also, there are likely to be broken branches on the road after the typhoon, so it won't be easy for you to walk."

What a warm-hearted police officer!

Ye Jia sat in the passenger seat again, and the feeling towards the person holding the steering wheel was completely different.

She fell in love with him, even though he was only kind to her because she was a commoner.

There were indeed some broken branches and standing water on the road, making driving quite inconvenient.

Seeing Gu Anzhou getting out of the car to clean up along the way, Ye Jia suddenly changed her mind about going home: "I'll go with you to help. Anyway, I'm not busy at work today."

"Okay, then plan your time accordingly." Gu Anzhou drove to the police station first to see what was going on.

Ye Jia was somewhat surprised to see so many people gathered there. There weren't many businesses on the island handling the situation, so many people had come spontaneously to help resolve the problems after the typhoon and restore normal life as soon as possible.

The two were assigned a task: Gu Anzhou, along with several other people, went to clear down trees that had been blown down by the wind on a main road.

Ye Jia also said that she couldn't exercise today, but she ended up exercising more than she was supposed to and is now exhausted.

The rain got a bit heavier halfway through, but thankfully there wasn't a strong wind, and everything went smoothly.

At noon, Sister Chun and other restaurant owners brought a lot of food to treat everyone.

Ye Jia hadn't felt this sense of everyone contributing in a long time. She was definitely more suited to living in a small place like this. In Beicheng, she couldn't feel any connection between people.

Even in the afternoon, Chu Nian arrived.

Seeing Ye Jia's surprised expression, Chu Nian said, "I didn't expect this either. I came to the island to relax, but I ended up having to work. But everyone is working, so I felt bad not coming."

"What have you been doing?"

"I went to check on the safety of the elderly people at home, and they were all fine. I also noticed that their windows were all intact. It turns out that only my house was blown apart. I'm so angry!"

Upon hearing that Chu Nian's window was broken, everyone was surprised: "Why didn't you say so sooner! We need to fix it quickly! Come on, let's go to your house and take a look."

Chu Nian was immediately panicked. Wait a minute, although she could take those things out in front of Ye Jia, she would be in big trouble if these well-meaning neighbors saw what was in her bedroom!

Gu Anzhou asked Ye Jia, "Is there a problem at home?"

"No."

As soon as Ye Jia finished answering, Chu Nian grabbed her arm and whispered something in her ear.

Then Gu Anzhou noticed that Ye Jia's face seemed to be a little red.

Ye Jia was truly speechless, but she immediately grabbed Chu Nian and got into Gu Anzhou's car, saying to him, "Take us back quickly!"

Gu Anzhou then drove them home first, with the other cars following behind.

As soon as the car stopped, Chu Nian quickly ran upstairs to the bedroom and stuffed all the things that were out in the outside into the bedside table, into the deepest part of it, before she felt at ease.

Ye Jia, who usually has much better stamina than Chu Nian, still couldn't catch up with her. By the time she arrived at Chu Nian's room, Chu Nian had already finished getting ready.

You never know how much potential you have until you push yourself.

When Ye Jia came out of Chu Nian's room, she saw that Gu Anzhou had also come up, carrying her laptop bag.

She got off the bus in such a hurry that she forgot her bag.

"Is there something you need?" Gu Anzhou asked.

"No, no." Ye Jia shook her head so fast it seemed like she was trying to cover something up. She took the bag from her. "Thank you. I'll go back to work now. If the weather's nice, I'll come to your shop for a drink."

"good."

Gu Anzhou turned and left without looking at Ye Jia as she opened the door, as it would be inconvenient if he accidentally saw into her room.

When Ye Jia got home, she calmed down and then turned on her computer to work. The internet hadn't returned to normal yet, but it wasn't a big problem for her work today.

Chu Nian, who lives across the hall, is not having such an easy time.

After a while, she knocked on Ye Jia's door dejectedly, looking as if she had been gone for a while.

"What's wrong?"

Chu Nian lay on the sofa in a daze for a long time before she came to her senses: "Didn't I put all my things in the bedside table? But they installed glass, so I had to step on things. I moved the bedside table over there, and the drawer was loose, so it slid out right away."

"...So you were still seen?"

"Yes, although I quickly turned it off, I felt like I saw it. Now I can only hope that you don't understand what it was."

Ye Jia let out an "uh" sound. She understood it, but how could others not understand it?

"It's alright," Ye Jia comforted her. "Didn't you say it's nothing?"

"Haha." Chu Nian just gave a wry smile.

Chu Nian's state of mind, "This world will never be better again," continued until dinner.

But this time, what cured her wasn't delicious food, but gossip.

"So you really did stay at Boss Gu's place last night." Chu Nian's eyes gleamed. "When I went there this afternoon, I felt that the atmosphere was obviously different when you were standing together. You seemed to have a protective barrier around yourself compared to everyone else."

"Huh?" Ye Jia couldn't understand what atmosphere or barrier meant.

"Stop pretending, you're basically ordering him around."

"When did I ever order him around?" Ye Jiayi recalled, and realized it was true. When she asked Gu Anzhou to take them home, he didn't use a single polite word. "...That's all your fault!"

Chu Nian hummed twice: "But you can't deny that everything changed after you stayed at his house for one night."

Ye Jia fell silent.

Things are different now.
