"What's wrong? It's the New Year, why are you talking to Little Fatty?" As soon as Mei's mother entered the room, she noticed that Little Fatty was about to cry. She glared at Uncle Hao, took Little Fatty from his arms, and patted him.
"He bullied his sister, he needs to be taught a lesson!" Uncle Hao frowned as he saw his son nestled in Aunt Mei's arms, ignoring him completely. "Don't get involved in this, this kid's been spoiled rotten. I'm going to..."
"Why did you have to teach me a lesson during the New Year? Besides, you bullied me a lot when I was a kid, and your son is just like you!" Aunt Mei glared at Uncle Hao and started bringing up old grievances.
"I...I was so immature back then! But when I grew up, I started to give in to you!" Uncle Hao was a little embarrassed when Aunt Mei brought up their childhood.
"You know you were immature back then. How old was Little Fatty? He was much younger than you were at that age."
"I'm talking to Uncle Hao," said Aunt Mei, glancing sideways at him.
"Okay, okay! I won't say anything more, alright!" Uncle Hao quickly raised his hands in surrender.
"Stop talking and hurry up and comfort him!" Aunt Mei shoved Little Fatty into Uncle Hao's arms.
Mei's mother turned to look at her daughter, who was still yelling at Xiao Pang, and took her out of Hao Erjiu's arms.
"Sisi, you're not allowed to fight! If you fight, you won't get any meat!" Aunt Mei said sternly.
Coconut paused, looked up at Mei's mother, then glanced at the chubby boy in Hao Sanjiu's arms, and decided that the meat was more important. She immediately turned her head away and decided to ignore the chubby boy.
Mei's mother nodded in satisfaction. Sure enough, her daughter was the most obedient!
"Dinner's ready! Huh? Where are Mom and Dad? How come you're the only ones left in this big house?" Sister-in-law Hao put a pot of chicken stew with vermicelli on the table.
"Mom, Dad, and my eldest brother are all sleeping in the west room. I'll go wake them up." Uncle Hao got off the kang (a heated brick bed) and hurried off to call them, afraid that Aunt Mei would bring up their childhood again.
"Please also move the kang table from that room over there, so the children can eat on the kang in a little while." Sister-in-law Hao thought that there were many people today and one table wouldn't be enough, so she planned to have the children eat on the kang.
"Okay!"
"Then I'll go and call Hao Yuan and the others to come inside for dinner." Aunt Mei stood up and was about to go out to call them.
"No need, I'll just call out at the door in a bit." Sister-in-law Hao pushed Aunt Mei to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), preventing her from going out.
"That won't do, they've all gone off somewhere crazy, I'll go look for them!" Aunt Mei thought it was better to go out and look for them.
"Hao Yuan and the others are used to it. They know it's almost time to eat, so they won't go far. These kids are craving meat! Knowing there will be meat tonight, they wouldn't dare go far."
Sure enough, as soon as Sister-in-law Hao called out at the door, she could hear the voices of the Hao family's children. Before long, they rushed into the house.
With so many people, Ye Si got a little anxious. There was only one bowl of meat on the table, which wasn't enough for everyone. Now that she had short arms and legs, would she be unable to get any?
“Right!” Ye Si sat on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), pointing at the chicken stew with vermicelli, looking at Mei Ma with longing.
"Pfft! Is this girl hungry again?" When Sister-in-law Hao saw Ye Si's chubby face, she couldn't help but go over and kiss Ye Si's plump cheeks.
"She got anxious when she saw the meat." Mei's mother knew very well her daughter's obsession with meat.
"Come on, come on, kids, make way, the food's here!" Sister-in-law Hao called out as she walked, carrying a basin of vegetables, afraid that the children inside might suddenly run out and knock the food over.
"You all come up to the kang (heated brick bed), you'll eat here today." Seeing the children all over the floor, Sister-in-law Hao was afraid they would overturn the dishes, so she decided to send them all to the kang.
Mei's mother quickly went over and picked up her daughter who was sitting on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed) to prevent her from being pushed to the ground by the children.
Suddenly, Mei's mother felt her neck was wet. She touched it and found her hand covered in saliva.
"Can't you be a little more sensible? It's not like you've never eaten meat before, you're just drooling like this!" Mei's mother helplessly pinched her daughter's cheek and took out a handkerchief to wipe her drool.
Uncle Hao arrived at just the right time, around mealtime, but he was the only one there; his pregnant wife didn't come with him.
"Where's Xiaoyun?" Grandma Hao immediately started to worry when she didn't see her pregnant fourth daughter-in-law.
"She just threw up again. I saw she was feeling too unwell, so I didn't let her come over," Uncle Hao quickly explained.
"Then why did you come here? Why didn't you stay home and take care of her? Come on! I'll go with you to see her!" When Grandma Hao heard that her fourth daughter-in-law was in pain, she felt that her son shouldn't have left her behind and come here by himself. She got off the kang (a heated brick bed), grabbed her cotton-padded coat, and wanted to go see her.
"No need, no need, she just lay down to sleep. Going there would only make things more difficult for her." Uncle Hao nervously stopped Grandma Hao from leaving the house.
His wife was actually at home eating porridge; she didn't come because she didn't want to move, not because she threw up.
After five years of marriage, Hao finally became pregnant, and Uncle Hao naturally doted on his wife. His sister came back every year, and it would be the same to see her again next year.
"Then you shouldn't stay here. Go back and take care of Xiaoyun." After thinking it over, Grandma Hao felt that if she went, it would indeed cause trouble for the fourth son's wife, so it would be better to let her son go back and take care of her.
"How can that be? I haven't seen Fifth Sister for so long, and that little girl she gave birth to..." Although Uncle Hao really wanted to rush home, he couldn't show it too obviously.
“What’s so interesting about a little girl? Xiaoyun is home alone. You should go back now! Fifth Sister and the others aren’t not coming next year, so it’s the same if you come again next year. Oh, wait a minute, I’ll pack some treats for Xiaoyun.”
Grandma Hao rushed to the kitchen and brought out two lunchboxes, specifically picking out meat for her fourth daughter-in-law.
The lunchbox was full, so Grandma Hao closed the lid, carefully put the contents into a cloth bag, and gave it to Uncle Hao to take back.
Uncle Hao hesitated, carrying the cloth bag. Looking at the people in the room, he felt it wouldn't be right for him to just leave like this.
