Before we knew it, summer vacation had arrived. Mei Liang finished his college entrance exam and was finally free. Now, apart from sleeping, we hardly ever see him.
Mei Jian found it too hot at home, so he went to stay at his maternal grandmother's house as soon as he had a holiday.
Apart from occasionally going to Xu Liang's shop in the evening to eat some of the new dishes he had researched, Mei Si spends the rest of her time at home.
It was too hot outside, and May didn't want to go out at all. She felt that it seemed to get hotter every year.
That evening, Mei Si ate a bowl of cold noodles at Xu Liang's place and slowly walked home. From afar, she could hear the noise coming from the Hu family's house.
"Grandma, what's going on at Sister Hu's house? Why is it so lively?" It was too hot for Mei Si to go over and join the fun, so she simply went home and asked Grandma Mei.
"Something's happened to their family! Hu Qing is missing, and they're asking everyone to help look for her. Your parents have gone to help," Grandma Mei said worriedly.
"Huh? How could someone as big as Sister Hu get lost?" Mei Si was puzzled. Sister Hu is so old, how could she not find her way home?
"Sigh! She said she didn't come home last night. She was supposed to bring her boyfriend home for dinner today, but even though her boyfriend came looking for her, Hu Qing is still nowhere to be found." Grandma Mei thought Hu Qing might have run into some bad people.
"Then I'll go and help look for her too." When Mei Si heard that Sister Hu had been missing for a day and a night, she also felt that the situation was serious.
“There are so many adults here, what business is it of yours? You’re not allowed to go. What if you run into bad people?” Grandma Mei grabbed her granddaughter who was about to leave and wouldn’t let go no matter what.
"Grandma, I can protect myself, and I want to help too. There's strength in numbers." Mei Si didn't dare to fight with Grandma Mei, so she could only let Grandma Mei pull her along.
"You can't go. Someone has already reported it to the police. They said the police will be here soon. The police are much more capable than you. You stay home and behave yourself!" Grandma Mei pushed her granddaughter into the house and locked the door, afraid that her granddaughter would run out when she wasn't looking.
Seeing that Grandma Mei was so wary of her, Mei Si had no choice but to stay at home obediently.
A short while later, Mei Liang knocked on the door and came in, bringing the latest news.
"The police have arrived. After understanding the situation, they have mobilized manpower to go door-to-door to ask questions." Mei Liang wiped the sweat from his brow, scooped up a ladle of cold water, and gulped it all down.
This matter dragged on for five days. Everyone around had been asked, but Hu Qing seemed to have vanished into thin air, with no news at all.
The police have already prepared the Hu family mentally; given that Hu Qing has been missing for so long, he is very likely dead.
For the first two days, Hu Qing's partner would join everyone in the search, but on the third day, his parents came and arrested him, dragging him home. After that, he was never seen again.
Grandma Mei kept a close watch on things for several days. When Mei Si stopped mentioning Hu Qing, she assumed her granddaughter had stopped thinking about it.
As soon as the ban was lifted, Mei Si ran out and started wandering around. Actually, she didn't know where to look, but she felt uneasy if she didn't help look.
Not long after Mei Si walked out, she felt someone was watching her. Mei Si frowned and quickly walked into the alley ahead.
There were many side roads in this area, and before long, Mei Si successfully circled around to the man's back.
The man was unaware that the person he was following was already behind him, and he was still limping as he chased after Mays in front of him.
Mei Si: Why are you following me? I don't recognize this figure.
Mays followed the man all the way until he returned home, and he did not do anything suspicious.
Seeing that it was getting late, and fearing that Grandma Mei would worry, Mei Si had no choice but to go back first.
At night, after the family had all fallen asleep, the bird quietly slipped out of the house.
Mei Si climbed over the wall and entered the man's yard. It was pitch black inside, and the man was obviously asleep. Mei Si wandered around the man's yard but didn't find anything suspicious.
Mei Si waited and waited until dawn before reluctantly returning home.
After feeding mosquitoes all night and finding nothing, Mei Si almost thought she was being followed was just her imagination. But the next evening, when Mei Si stepped out of her house, the man appeared again.
Mei Si: Is it revenge? I haven't caused any trouble lately, have I?
Mei Si felt that being followed like this couldn't go on forever, and it would be better to resolve the issue sooner rather than later. Mei Si decided to give the man a chance.
Mei Si ate something at Xu Liang's place and then left early. She deliberately went to secluded and sparsely populated areas to create opportunities for the man behind her.
As expected, the man did not disappoint Mei Si. He suddenly rushed up from behind Mei Si and covered her mouth and nose with a pungent-smelling towel.
Meiss held her breath, pretended to struggle a few times, then closed her eyes and relaxed her body.
The man threw Meisi to the ground, took a burlap sack he had prepared beforehand from his bicycle, and quickly stuffed Meisi into it.
After making sure no one was watching, the man carried the sack home.
"Damn it, this little girl is almost as old as Hu Qingchen." The man was panting heavily as he carried Mei Si to the cellar.
Mei Si: Sister Hu?! Yes, that voice sounds familiar. Is it that bad guy from Winter? He's the one who kidnapped Sister Hu?
The man opened the sack, tied Mays directly to the wooden frame, and stuffed a piece of cloth into Mays' mouth.
"Mmm..." Hu Qing, who was also tied up, saw that Mei Si had been captured as well. He was very excited, but his mouth was gagged and he could not make a sound.
Hu Qing shook her head and shed tears. She knew that she was the one who had harmed Mei Si. She was the one who couldn't withstand Lu Hui's abuse and had given Mei Si away.
After tying up Mei Si, Lu Hui walked directly to Hu Qing. Hu Qing was trembling with fear. She had been beaten so badly that in just a few days, her body was covered in bruises and welts, with not a single patch of undamaged skin.
