That evening, the coaches discussed with Captain Chen how to deal with reporters from various countries.
"Meisi cannot give an interview." Coach Li, who knew Meisi's personality well, firmly disagreed with Meisi giving an interview.
“How can we refuse interviews? It will leave them with the impression that Chinese people are arrogant and rude,” Captain Chen said disapprovingly.
“If we don’t get interviewed, they’ll just think we’re arrogant; if we do get interviewed… we might offend countries all over the world,” Coach Li said with a wry smile, wiping his face.
"How could that be? You're exaggerating." Captain Chen was somewhat incredulous. How could a small sports interview possibly offend countries around the world?
"Captain, you don't know Mei Si. She's honest and doesn't know how to be humble. She can say things that leave people speechless." Coach Xu had only spent two days with Mei Si, but he already had a deep understanding of her.
"That's amazing? Then let's write an article for her." Captain Chen thought this was easy to solve.
“But I just found out that interviews abroad don’t involve reading from a script; they emphasize improvisation,” Coach Tang interjected.
"Captain, how about we just let it go?" Coach Wang also felt that Mei Si shouldn't be interviewed. "The girl is honest. If she says something wrong and those reporters take it out of context, it could ruin her. She's still young, and there are many more gold medals waiting for her."
"Sigh, it's not that I want to make things difficult for that girl, Meis, but we've been gone for too long. It's time to let the world know that the sleeping dragon of the East has awakened!"
The coaches looked at each other; it seemed they had oversimplified the situation.
They spent the whole night working together to come up with a script of answers to questions the reporter might ask. They tried to give the most concise answers possible, in case Mei Si couldn't remember them.
Coach Li saw that it was almost time and that Mei Si should be up, so he went upstairs and knocked on Mei Si's door.
"Coach, what's wrong? Why are your eyes so red? Did you cry because you were bullied?" Mei Si asked, looking at Coach Li's bloodshot eyes.
"..." Coach Li, who had intended to give Mei Si a smile, immediately turned grim upon hearing her words, glaring at her with a stern face, "You come out with me!"
"Oh." Meska babbled and followed Coach Li downstairs.
"These are the questions and answers that the reporter might ask in tomorrow's interview. Memorize them today."
"Oh!" Mei Si nodded, took the manuscript, and began to read it carefully.
"You'd better memorize this well, I'll be checking it tonight." Coach Li was a little unsure of himself when Mei Si agreed so readily.
"Okay," Mei Si replied without looking up.
Mei Si didn't find memorizing things difficult at all, because she had a powerful academic voucher. Mei Si simply went to the group and asked for a voucher. After reading it twice, she could recite it fluently.
So, Coach Li, who woke up at noon, almost exploded with anger when he saw the manuscript on his desk.
"I knew you were too complacent. I'll catch you and punish you severely! I'll punish you by... not letting you eat meat for two meals!" Coach Li grabbed his script and started looking for people everywhere.
"What are you looking for here?" Coach Xu got up earlier than Coach Li and had just finished eating. He was preparing to go to the competition venue later.
"Where's that wild girl Mei Si? I told her to memorize her script properly, but she's vanished in just a few hours!" Coach Li said, clutching the script tightly.
"Hey, I thought it was something serious! You don't need to look for her anymore, Meis went to the competition venue. She left with Coach Wang and the others this morning."
