When the two elders saw the red envelope in the corner of the cabinet, they wondered when they had received it.
As they get older, they become more meticulous. After thinking about it for two days, the two elders finally realized that these two red envelopes were probably the ones Mei Si had given them that night.
"So it wasn't a dream after all. Sisi really did give us red envelopes." Grandma Hao nodded, thinking about being woken up in the middle of the night to receive red envelopes. "These red envelopes must have been from Sisi. Only she would do something like that!"
The two elders opened the red envelope and found that it contained a bankbook. When Grandpa Hao put on his reading glasses and saw the numbers on it, his heart skipped a beat.
He quickly took Grandma Hao's bankbook and saw that the amount of money on it was the same.
"How much money? How much did Sisi give?" Grandma Hao squinted, unable to see the numbers on the passbook clearly, so she simply asked Grandpa Hao directly.
"This money isn't right. Could the child have taken the wrong one?" Grandpa Hao said, frowning.
"You old man, I'm asking you a question, how much is it?" Granny Hao said angrily, shoving her pestle for a long time.
“This number,” Grandpa Hao said, holding up one finger.
"1000?" Grandma Hao turned around to look at the doorway, leaned closer to Grandpa Hao and asked in a low voice.
"Add another zero," Grandpa Hao said in a low voice, shaking his head.
"What? One..." Grandma Hao was startled and almost shouted out loud, but luckily Grandpa Hao's hand speed was as fast as ever, and he covered Grandma Hao's mouth first.
"Shh! Keep your voice down! I'll call Fifth Sister in a bit and ask her. She's definitely taken the wrong child!"
Grandpa Hao put away the two bankbooks and said.
"Yes, we should ask. Sisi doesn't earn money easily, so maybe this is money she saved up with great difficulty!" Grandma Hao nodded and said.
While everyone in the family was at work, Grandpa Hao called Aunt Mei's workplace.
"Sister Hao! Your family is calling!" Colleague Xu Hua went to the textile workshop to call Mei's mother to answer the phone.
"Coming! Can you keep an eye on it for me?" Mei's mother asked her colleague next to her to watch her machine, and hurriedly ran to answer the phone.
"Hello?"
"Fifth Sister, it's your father." Grandpa Hao heard his daughter's voice and quickly reported who he was.
"And me too!" Grandma Hao nudged Grandpa Hao, urging him to tell his daughter that she was there as well.
"Oh, right, your mother is there too!" Grandpa Hao quickly added.
"Yes, I heard you, Dad. What's up?"
"I just wanted to ask, did you know about the red envelope Sisi gave us?"
Grandpa Hao knew his daughter was at work, so he skipped the formalities and went straight to asking about the red envelope.
"Yeah, I know, so what?"
"Our daughter knows about the red envelopes." Grandpa Hao repeated his daughter's words to Grandma Hao, then asked her, "Do you know how much money is in them?"
"I didn't ask about that in detail." Madam Mei trusted Wang Ce Lou very much. Since he was the one who advised her daughter, he was sure he wouldn't make a mistake.
"Go and keep watch at the door." Grandpa Hao opened his mouth, about to say something, but after glancing at the door, he felt uneasy and instructed Grandma Hao to go and watch the door.
"You old man, you're such a troublemaker!" Grandma Hao glared at Grandpa Hao, walked to the door, opened it, and looked around. "Nobody's here, so go ahead and say it!"
"Sisi, give me and your mother a savings account each, and each account will have 10,000 yuan in it," Grandpa Hao said softly, covering the microphone.
"Yes, that's pocket money Sisi gave you."
"You child, did you not hear me clearly? I said there's ten thousand yuan in that savings account! Ten thousand!" Grandpa Hao covered the microphone and whispered.
"Dad, I heard you clearly, you don't need to shout," said Aunt Mei, both amused and exasperated.
"Then why do you say it's pocket money? That's ten thousand!"
“That was indeed pocket money; I, Wenhua, and my mother-in-law all received it.”
"What? Did Sisi take the wrong passbook? Where did she get so much money?"
Grandpa Hao was shocked. Ten thousand each, that's fifty thousand!
"Dad, Sisi gets a prize money for winning the championship. Sisi is a little rich girl now!"
“Even with bonuses, it can’t withstand this kind of spending. When you see Sisi again, have a good talk with her,” Grandpa Hao instructed.
"Dad, Sisi isn't a spendthrift, so don't worry! Keep that savings book safe; Sisi will deposit money into it every year. Buy whatever you want to eat, don't be so stingy!"
"What? You put money into it every year? No need, no need. Tell Sisi to stop. She should save her earnings and not spend them recklessly! Your mother and I are practically buried, we don't have anywhere to spend money!"
"Dad, don't say that. Your granddaughter is so filial to you, so please spend the money without worry! Buy whatever you want! Okay, I'm not talking to you anymore, I have to go to work. When I have time, Wenhua and I will go back to see you!"
"How did it go? What did Fifth Sister say?" Grandma Hao asked as soon as Grandpa Hao hung up the phone.
"Sisi didn't give it to the wrong person; that money is for us."
"Does she have a future in-law? Sisi grew up with her, if she doesn't, shouldn't she be worried?" Grandma Hao said worriedly.
“Yes, both Fifth Sister and her son-in-law have some. Fifth Sister said that Sisi will deposit money into this savings account every year from now on. This money is our allowance!”
"Sisi has made something of herself! She can earn so much money." Grandma Hao lovingly touched the savings book, deciding to hide it away carefully.
"Don't spend this money recklessly. We need to save it for Sisi and give it to her when she gets married," Grandpa Hao said worriedly.
"You old man, have you gone mad? Didn't you hear what our daughter said? This is pocket money that Sisi gave us. It's meant to be spent. What's the point of saving it? We can't take it to our graves." Grandma Hao rolled her eyes at Grandpa Hao and decided to go out with her best friend tomorrow to buy a couple of nice clothes.
"Hey? Don't go, this money has to be..." Grandpa Hao chased after Grandma Hao, determined to give her a good lesson.
