Chapter 92

"Your grandma is angry because you didn't come home last night." Mei's father decided to shift the blame onto his daughter.

"Stop trying to bluff your way out of this. You know perfectly well why I'm angry, so don't blame it on my granddaughter." Grandma Mei glared at her son, then pulled her granddaughter into her arms and checked her from head to toe to see if she was hurt anywhere.

"Grandma, I wanted to come back last night, but I had to get off the train to give a statement." Mei Si didn't want to get off the train last night, but Ce Lou said they had to give a statement, otherwise they wouldn't be able to stay at home in peace and would have to come back.

After thinking it over, Mei Si decided that it would be easier to resolve the issue at once, so she obediently followed them off the train.

"It's alright, Grandma isn't angry with you. Are you hungry? Grandma will go make you some food." Grandma Mei glanced at her watch and saw that it was almost noon. She decided to make something delicious for her granddaughter first, and deal with her son later when she had time.

"What does Gousheng want to eat?" Grandma Mei turned to ask Wang Celou, who was sitting in a chair.

Grandma Mei never changed her way of addressing Wang Ce Lou; she could never remember his full name. At first, Wang Ma would remind her, but when she saw that Grandma Mei really couldn't remember, she stopped mentioning it.

"I eat everything." Wang Celou's expression froze for a moment, then returned to normal. None of the Mei family members noticed the change in Wang Celou's emotions.

"Grandma, Ce Lou likes to eat leafy greens, just stir-fry some leafy greens for him." Mei Si kindly spoke up for him when she saw that Wang Ce Lou wasn't telling the truth.

When Wang Ce Lou saw that everyone was turning to look at him, he twitched the corner of his mouth, maintained his smile, and pretended not to hear what Mei Si said.

"Grandma, I want to eat braised pork!" Mei Si said happily, tugging at her grandmother's clothes.

Mei Si adapted well to the team, but she still missed her grandma Mei's braised pork the most. She thought it was the most delicious thing on earth.

"I've already prepared it. I knew you wanted braised pork. I'll go make it for you now," Grandma Mei said, playfully pinching her granddaughter's nose.

Grandma Mei went into the kitchen to cook, and Mom Mei followed to help out. Dad Mei was just about to show his love to his daughter.

"Come on, let's go. Didn't you say you wanted to go home and visit?" Mei Si pulled Wang Ce Lou and walked out, completely ignoring Mei's father's outstretched hand.

Mei's father awkwardly withdrew his hand, and the more he thought about it, the more he felt something was wrong.

"Did your sister just take that kid out?" Mei's father turned to ask Mei Liang.

"Ah!" Mei Liang nodded.

"Hand in hand?"

“…Hmm…” Mei Liang hesitated to answer when he saw that his father’s expression was off.

"Wow! This kid's got guts! He actually dared to lay a hand on my daughter! Did his family plan this all along? No wonder they were so enthusiastic about letting Sisi stay at their house during the holidays!" Mei's father slapped his thigh, feeling that he had discovered the Wang family's conspiracy.

"Dad, didn't you contact Uncle Wang on your own initiative?" Mei Liang couldn't help but remind his father when he saw him getting more and more confused.

"..."

"Besides, it would be good if my sister could marry into Uncle Wang's family. At least they would know her background, and with her strength, no one would dare to marry her."

"Get lost! What are you talking about? What do you mean no one dares to marry your sister?" Mei's father waved his hand, unwilling to hear Mei Liang say anything bad about his daughter.

"Dad, you have to face reality. In our family, Mei Si is the most worrying one for the future." Mei Liang wanted to wake up his father. Someone like Mei Si would really have a hard time getting married.

"Come on, give me a break! I trust your sister the most! Look at her, she's so young and she can already earn her own money, how capable is she? What family wouldn't want a good daughter-in-law like that? Besides, your sister is always thinking of home, sending money home every month." Mei's father glanced at Mei Liang and said.

“I…that’s different! I have a boyfriend, you know! Otherwise, why wouldn’t I bring money home every time?” As soon as Mei Liang saw the look in his father’s eyes, he knew that his father had a problem with him.

"I don't know what's wrong with you young people these days? You have to spend money to date. When your mother and I were dating, she always gave me gifts and never let me spend any money." Mei's father curled his lip, thinking that Mei Liang was no good and hadn't inherited his true skills.

"...Mom, is that so?" Mei Liang glanced at his smug father and asked his mother, who was standing at the door.

"Huh?" Mei's father turned around abruptly and saw Mei's mother standing at the door with a dark face. He quickly got off the kang (a heated brick bed) and went over to her with a smile.

Wang Celou pushed open the courtyard gate and went inside. The courtyard had obviously been cleaned, and Wang Celou knew that it must have been the Mei family who cleaned it.

Wang Ce Lou didn't stay in the courtyard for long; he glanced at the courtyard a few times and went straight into the house.

The room was spotless, and everything was in its original place. Wang Celou stared blankly at the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), where his grandmother used to sit and nag him.

"What are you looking at?" Mei Si couldn't help but peek over from behind when she saw Wang Ce Lou not moving for a long time, wanting to see what he was looking at.

"It's nothing." Wang Ce Lou came back to his senses and went straight into the inner room, wanting to see how many of the books he used to read were still left.

Seeing that Wang Celou was reading a book, Mei Si found it uninteresting and simply walked out.

"Meisi?" Hu Qing looked at the place where Meisi had come out, somewhat unsure if this person was indeed Meisi.

"You are... Sister Hu?" Mei thought for a long time before realizing that the person in front of her was Hu Qing. She remembered that her mother had said that Hu Qing had gone to work in the south. Why did she come back?

"Yes, how did you come out of here? I almost didn't recognize you. I heard you were coming back in the next couple of days, and I was thinking of going to see you tomorrow or the day after." As soon as Hu Qing saw that it was indeed Mei Si, he immediately stepped forward and hugged Mei Si tightly.

"Looking for me? Is something wrong?" Mei Si didn't expect Sister Hu to be so enthusiastic like a foreigner, giving her a hug right away.

"Of course I'll treat you to a meal to properly repay you!"

"Repay?" Mei Si was a little confused. She hadn't seen Sister Hu for several years. Sister Hu wanted to repay her? Had she asked the wrong person?

"I owe you so much back then, otherwise I would be dead! There were so many rumors going around, and I didn't want to involve you, so I never contacted you again. Now that I'm rich, I have to repay you properly!"

“My mom said that since Aunt Hu gave us eggs, we don’t need to repay her.” Mei Si was a little confused. Didn’t Aunt Hu give the family a basket of eggs years ago? Why is she saying we need to repay her?

"What's a basket of eggs? My life is worth much more than that. I've got you a house. Come on, let's go out for a meal." Hu Qing put his arm around Mei Si and tried to take her out to a restaurant.

"I can't go today, my grandma made braised pork for me." Mei Si stood still and shook her head to indicate that she couldn't go today.

"Okay, then let's do it tomorrow! I'll pick you up tomorrow." Hu Qing nodded understandingly. Mei Si rarely comes back, so she must want to spend time with her family.
