When Mei's father returned home that evening, he brought back two oil cans. Mei watched as her father applied the oil to the door and began to look forward to their actions that night.
Finally, when it was time to go to bed, Mei Si couldn't wait to lie down on the kang (a heated brick bed), close her eyes, and pretend to be asleep.
One hour, two hours, three...
Mei Si fell asleep, but she was suddenly awakened in the middle of the night. She sat up and listened carefully to the sounds coming from the inner room, but apart from her father's snoring, there was no other sound.
Meisi: Missed it? Looks like I won't be able to sleep tomorrow night.
The following night, Meiss waited with her eyes open in the darkness.
"Come on, Jianjian, pee, pee..." Grandma Mei got up in the middle of the night, took a metal can, and put it on Mei's little penis to collect urine.
After Little Mei finished urinating, Grandma Mei lay down and went back to sleep.
Just when Mei Si thought that she might have waited in vain again, there was a noise in the inner room where Mei's parents were sleeping.
Mei Si silently got up, slipped off the kang (a heated brick bed), and slowly approached the door of the inner room in her slippers. Mei Si didn't see that after she got off the kang, Mei Xiaodi, who had woken up at some point, also sat up.
Little Mei slept too much during the day. Grandma Mei had just finished changing his diaper when he woke up. He didn't cry when he woke up, but started urinating everywhere.
Since everyone was sleeping, he peed for a while, then got bored and decided to go back to sleep.
Just as he was about to close his eyes, he noticed a dark figure getting up from the kang (a heated brick bed). Mei Xiaodi immediately widened his eyes and became alert.
Little Mei looked at the dark figure crawling out of the bed, then at the dark figure on the ground, and finally confirmed that the dark figure on the ground was her sister.
Meis slowly reached for the doorknob, intending to quietly open the door.
Meis gave it a gentle tug, but couldn't pull it open...
Meis thought she was stuck, so she applied a little more force.
"Click!" The latch couldn't withstand the distance from Mays, and the screws went flat and loose...
"What's that sound?" Mei's father paused, sensing that the sound was coming from the doorway.
"Did you lock the door?" Aunt Mei asked in a low voice.
"It's inserted." When the voice didn't come out again, Mei's father continued to murmur.
"Daddy!!!" Little Mei climbed to the edge of the kang and shouted loudly.
Mei's parents were startled by the shout in the night.
Mei Si turned around abruptly and found that her younger brother had climbed to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed) at some point and was staring straight at her.
"What did Jianjian just shout?" Mei's mother asked, somewhat uncertain.
"It sounds like she's calling for Sisi. She's probably dreaming, or maybe talking in her sleep." Mei's father thought it was impossible for his daughter to be awake so late at night.
Grandma Mei was awakened by her grandson's shout from above. She reached out and touched the small quilt next to her, and sure enough, it was empty.
Grandma Mei wiped her face and quickly got up to see where her grandson had crawled off to.
As soon as Mei Si saw Grandma Mei move, she knew something was wrong, and she quickly ran to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed).
Mei Si gave the quilt a hard shake, and the quilt flew up. Mei Si used her right hand to prop herself up on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed) and jumped onto the kang, lying directly in the quilt. The quilt fell down and covered her.
When Grandma Mei opened her eyes, she felt a gust of wind behind her. She turned her head and saw that her eldest grandson and granddaughter were still sleeping soundly and had not woken up.
"Where did this wind come from in the middle of the night? Am I still half asleep?" Grandma Mei muttered, reaching out to pick up her grandson and pulling him back into bed together.
On Sunday morning, while Mei's parents were eating, they kept observing their daughter, wondering why she got up and started pulling on the door. Was she curious because she heard a noise?
When Mei's father got up in the morning, he noticed that the bolts on the door latch were a bit loose, as if someone had pulled them too hard.
There are only two people in the family who have the strength: Mei's father and Mei Si. Mei's father is in the inner room, so it's just Mei Si.
Mei Si's expression remained unchanged, pretending not to notice that her parents were observing her. Mei Si thought that her parents suspected her, and had no idea that she had been exposed.
Mays: I didn't expect them to lock the door. What a blunder. I need to find a time to remove the latch.
Today, Mei's parents are off work, and only Mei's grandmother is at work. After finishing her meal, Mei's grandmother went out alone.
After thinking about it, Mei's mother decided to talk to her daughter.
"Sisi, come here." Mei's mother winked at Mei's father and led her daughter into the inner room.
"Mei Liang, come on, let's go nail the kitchen door curtain together, it's about to fall off." Mei's father led his son to the small storage room in the yard to get tools.
"...Well...Sisi, it's normal for someone your age to be curious, but...cough! There are some things that aren't for someone your age to know. You'll understand when you're older." Mei's mother blushed slightly. It was really awkward talking to her daughter about this, but she was afraid her daughter might launch another surprise attack one night if she didn't say anything.
"You'll understand when you grow up? Was the exercise you and Dad did last night just instinct?" Mei Si looked at her mother, wanting to know more.
"Sigh! I've already told you, but you wouldn't understand now. You'll understand when you're older. Don't be curious about this anymore," Aunt Mei said sternly.
"oh!"
Mei Si nodded expressionlessly.
Meis: What ancestors set this rule? Human ancestors really had a lot to do.
Mei Si and Mei Liang will start school in a week, and there will be no one to look after Mei Xiaodi. Mei's parents plan to send Mei Xiaodi to the Hao family today.
All the way there, Mei's mother was worried about her youngest son. This boy was different from his older brothers and sisters. He was so young but already had a lot on his mind and was prone to crying. She wondered how much he would cry when he got to his parents' house, since he had never met his maternal grandparents before.
Upon arrival, Mei's parents stayed with their little brother Mei until the afternoon, letting him adjust to the new environment. They only left reluctantly after Grandma Hao asked them to come home.
