Chapter 60

"What are you doing? Looking for a fight?" Mei Liang pushed Guoguo aside and immediately assumed a fighting stance.

"Shh! Keep your voice down!" Guoguo quickly peered out the doorway, afraid his sister-in-law would hear.

"What exactly do you want?" Mei Liang was somewhat puzzled by Guoguo's terrified state.

Mei Liang: What is he afraid of? I'm clearly behind him!

"Um, let's make a deal. When you leave, don't mention anything about me and Chen Baoguo's business together, okay?" Guoguo turned around, leaned against the door, and wiped her face as she spoke.

"Who is Chen Baoguo?" Mei Liang thought carefully, but he didn't seem to know this person.

"...Then don't tell me I robbed you." Guoguo thought that if his older brother heard Mei Liang say that, he would probably be so angry he'd vomit blood.

"Would that count as robbery? And it didn't even go through." Mei Liang felt there was something wrong with Guoguo's statement; it sounded as if they had successfully robbed someone.

"...Anyway, just don't mention robbery or fighting when you go out!" Guoguo took a deep breath and decided to be magnanimous and not argue with Mei Liang.

"Are you afraid your family will find out? If you're afraid, why do you still go out and mess around? They'll find out sooner or later." Mei Liang shook his head, looking at Guo Guo with his hands behind his back, not understanding why he was so foolish.

"..."

Hao Yuan was somewhat wary when Guoguo jumped off the kang (a heated brick bed), but judging from Mei Liang's expression, the two obviously knew each other.

Hao Yuan: This is the class monitor's house. Is this the younger brother the class monitor mentioned? Xiao Liang should be safe. But... robbery?

"Hurry up and drink some hot water to warm up, it's so cold this year."

"Thank you, sister-in-law. It's colder this year than in previous years."

"How's Jianguo doing in the army? Has he gained or lost weight?"

"The squad leader is great. We train every day, and we don't get fat."

"This is you..." When Sister-in-law Guo saw Guoguo leading Mei Liang out, she wanted to invite Mei Liang to eat some melon seeds, but she didn't know what the relationship was between Hao Yuan and Mei Liang, so she didn't know how to address him.

“This is my aunt’s daughter, her name is Mei Liang, and Mei Liang calls her sister-in-law.”

"sister in law."

"Hey! Mei Liang, come here, have some melon seeds and some water." Sister-in-law Guo put the water she had just poured into Mei Liang's hands and pushed the plate of melon seeds toward him.

"Thank you, sister-in-law."

"Sister-in-law, where are Uncle Guo and Aunt Guo? Did they go out?" Hao Yuan had been there for a while but hadn't seen the class monitor's parents, so he knew they were probably not home.

"You've come at a bad time. The old couple went to visit their uncle who lives on the front street."

Hao Yuan chatted with Sister-in-law Guo for a while before leaving with Mei Liang.

After seeing Hao Yuan and his companion off, Sister-in-law Guo's face fell as soon as she returned to the house.

"Tell me, how did you and Mei Liang meet?" Sister-in-law Guo picked up a broom from the corner of the wall, swept away the dust on the ground, and asked.

"Huh? We...we met while we were eating." Guoguo kept staring at the broom in Guo's sister-in-law's hand, afraid that she might suddenly attack him.

"Ha! Eat? Do you think I'm deaf? He clearly said robbery!" Sister-in-law Guo threw the broom on the ground and glared at Guoguo.

"Sister-in-law... Sister-in-law, you must have misheard me," Guoguo said softly, taking a step back.

"Still lying! Tell me! Have you been going to see that scoundrel Chen Baoguo again recently?"

Sister-in-law Guo bent down to pick up the broom, intending to swat the cricket.

"That was all in the summer. I haven't visited Brother Chen in a long time." Guoguo quickly jumped onto the kang (a heated brick bed) and found a spot that Sister-in-law Guo couldn't reach for the time being.

"Besides, I'm an adult now. Please stop hitting me. They always laugh at me." Guoguo is eighteen this year and an adult. He doesn't want to be beaten by his sister-in-law anymore.

"Don't you know why I hit you? If you weren't out there causing trouble, would I have hit you?"

"It's because I always get beaten by women that they laugh at me. Only Brother Chen doesn't laugh at me!" Guoguo shouted, stretching his neck.

Sister-in-law Guo was at her wits' end looking at her brother-in-law, who never learned his lesson. She had tried scolding him and even hitting him, but he just wanted to hang out with that good-for-nothing.

Sister-in-law Guo decided to write a letter to Guo Jianguo, asking him to find a way to bring his younger brother under control. She was afraid that if he wasn't properly disciplined, he would cause trouble.

Since meeting Hao Yuan, Mei Si has barely spoken, trying to minimize her presence.

Although this planet is different, Mays knows that these soldiers, trained by the state, have very keen senses.

Mei Si wasn't sure if Hao Yuan would notice anything if she spoke, so she decided it was better to remain silent.

After finally seeing Hao Yuan off, Mei Si thought she could relax, but then something terrible happened to the Mei family—no, it just affected Mei Si.

This is a big deal.

After considering it for a few days, Mei's mother decided to wean Mei's little brother while Mei Liang and Mei Si were still on vacation.

"Isn't Jianjian too young? The little boy should eat for a few more months." Grandma Mei hesitated, feeling that her grandson should eat until he was over one year old.

"He's not young anymore. Liangliang broke his leg even earlier than him."

Mei's mother felt that this was the perfect time.

“But this child isn’t as strong as Liangliang was when he was little.” This is also why Grandma Mei wanted her grandson to breastfeed for a few more months. Mei Jian was lighter than his older brother and sister when he was born, and now that he’s almost a year old, he’s only half the weight of his granddaughter when she was little.

“I think he might just be naturally skinny. You see, he eats a lot every day. Although he can’t compare to Sisi, he eats about the same amount as Liangliang back then.”

Mei's mother felt that her youngest son was just delicate-looking, making him seem weak, but in reality he ate quite a lot.

"Alright then, it's perfect since Liangliang and Sisi haven't started school yet, so someone will keep an eye on him when he's being naughty." Grandma Mei thought for a moment, and realized that her grandson did indeed have a large appetite; perhaps, as her daughter-in-law said, he was just naturally thin.
