"Mom, how can we bring steamed buns? They'll spoil in this hot weather! Sisi loves meat, and if it's all meat, she'll be ecstatic." As he spoke, Dad Mei went to look at his daughter, and sure enough, she was grinning from ear to ear.
“But we can’t just eat meat; we need to eat some staple food too,” Grandma Mei said, shaking her head in disapproval.
"Aunt Mei, don't worry, they have staple food there. Their staple food is bread," Wang's father said with a smile.
"They have staple food? Why don't they show it on TV? It made me think they only eat meat!" Grandma Mei pouted, thinking these foreigners were really dishonest.
After chatting for a while, the Mei family of three went to rest. After such a long train ride, even Mei's parents were feeling the strain, let alone Mei's grandmother.
That evening, Mei's mother woke up first and went to find Wang's mother to see if there was anything she could help with for dinner.
"We won't cook tonight, we'll go out to eat later," said Wang Ma, pulling Mei Ma down to sit and handing her an apple.
"Why are we eating out? It's such a waste of money with so many people. It's more cost-effective to eat at home." Mei's mother disagreed with so many people eating out; she believed it was more economical to eat at home.
"Don't worry, we know a restaurant that's both delicious and inexpensive." Wang's parents had already discussed it and planned to let the Mei family of three try the restaurant's specialties.
"There are such good places in Kyoto? Isn't everything expensive here?" Mei's mother was a little skeptical, thinking that things in big cities couldn't be too cheap.
"You'll know when we get there!" Wang Ma smiled mysteriously and gestured for Mei Ma to eat an apple.
"I'll go check on Mei Si." After eating an apple, Mei's mother couldn't sit still any longer; she wanted to see how her daughter's packing was going.
Mei's mother went into her daughter's room and asked her to open her luggage bag.
She looked at her daughter's packed luggage and felt that there was not enough stuff.
"Why did you pack so little? Three outfits aren't enough. Do you want to go on stage in wet clothes if it rains?" Mei's mother shook her head. Sure enough, it was right for her to come and check. Her daughter was good in every way, except that she lacked planning skills.
"That's enough. When we get there, we'll mainly be wearing team uniforms. I didn't want to pack any clothes, but Auntie said we should bring two sets, in case we need them." Mei Si didn't bring back many things, so her bag looked rather empty.
“Yes, we should definitely wear the team uniform when we’re out. What about your towel, toothbrush, and stuff? Why didn’t you bring those?” Mom nodded. They should indeed wear the team uniform when they’re abroad, so that foreigners will know which country they’re from and won’t dare to bully them.
"The neighbor said that we would prepare those things at our place of residence, so there is no need to bring them."
A while ago, Wang Celou wrote a letter and asked her to give it to Coach Li. This time when she came back, Coach Li gave her a reply.
After reading Coach Li's reply, Wang Celou took many things out of her luggage, saying there was no need to bring them.
Once Mei's mother saw that there were no problems with the luggage, she started to worry about other things.
"When you get there, don't meddle in other people's business. Don't think you're so great that you can just start a fight. This isn't China, so no matter how angry you are, you have to keep it to yourself." Mei's mother was afraid that her daughter would get into a fight with someone abroad. She wasn't worried about her daughter getting hurt, but she was more afraid that people would just detain her and prevent her from participating in the competition to win glory for the country.
“I know. Ce Lou gave me a list and told me to do what’s written on it if I encounter any problems,” Mei Si said, taking out the list Wang Ce Lou had made.
When Mei's mother looked at the paper, she nodded repeatedly. Sure enough, Ce Lou was the most meticulous child. She knew that it would be pointless for them to explain now, as this girl would definitely forget everything when things got serious.
"This child has been smart since he was little. Just do as he says, and you must strictly follow his instructions, understand?" With this piece of paper written by the Wang family boy, she didn't have to worry about anything.
As soon as Wang Celou got home that evening, everyone set off. The restaurant wasn't far; it was just a few minutes' walk from the alley next door.
While the Mei family was sleeping in the afternoon, Wang's father had already booked a private room. As soon as everyone entered the courtyard, a young man came out to greet them.
The area where the Wang family lives is entirely composed of courtyard houses, and the courtyard of this restaurant is twice the size of the Wang family's.
"Does anyone have a reservation?"
"It's booked, the Lunar New Year Hall," said Wang's father, walking ahead.
"Then please follow me." The young man leaned forward slightly, extended his right hand in a gesture of invitation, and then led the way for everyone.
"It must be very expensive here?" Grandma Mei asked somewhat reservedly. She smoothed her hair and tugged at her clothes, not wanting to embarrass Mr. and Mrs. Wang.
"Aunt Mei, it's not expensive, don't worry." Seeing that Grandma Mei was uncomfortable, Wang Ma quickly stepped forward and took Grandma Mei's arm, saying reassuringly.
“This place looks more impressive than the state-run restaurants, but it must be really expensive to eat here. How about we find a small restaurant?” Mei’s father stepped forward, leaned closer to Wang’s father, and whispered.
"It's not expensive here. We've been here several times. The food is especially delicious. I guarantee you'll want to come back next time you eat here."
Upon arriving at the private room, the young man handed out two menus to everyone.
Grandma Mei took the menu from the young man and was stunned to see so many dishes. She simply shoved the menu into her mother's arms and ignored it.
Looking at the menu, Mei's mother didn't know what to order, but seeing that the prices were indeed not expensive, she breathed a sigh of relief.
"Qiufen, we don't know what to eat. You guys order. You come here often, you know what's good," said Aunt Mei, pushing the menu in front of Aunt Wang.
