Chapter 31 Counting

Coconut was woken up early by Grandma Mei. She was a little dazed, feeling like she had gotten up a bit too early today.

Grandma Mei served the meat porridge to her granddaughter and then began to tidy herself up.

While eating her porridge, Ye Si watched Grandma Mei change her clothes. Ye Si felt that Grandma Mei was a little different today, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.

"Are you full? If you're full, how about we go to Grandma Wang's house to play today?" Grandma Mei saw that her granddaughter's bowl was empty, so she quickly came over to wipe her mouth.

"Wang? Nai?" Ye Si hadn't asked for coupons in the author group for quite some time because she found herself dependent on those magical coupons.

Coconut felt that she shouldn't rely too much on things that might be available today but not tomorrow; she needed to adapt to the world on her own.

"It's Grandma Wang next door, don't you remember? Come on, let's go, Grandma's going to be late." Grandma Mei put on her leather shoes and led her granddaughter, who was also wearing shoes, to the next house.

"Sister Wang, I'll leave Sisi to you."

"Don't talk about trouble or not. I treat Sisi like my granddaughter. You should go to work now! Don't be late."

"Okay, I'll go now. I'll pick her up after get off work tonight." Grandma Mei ran out the door, almost stumbling, and rushed off to work.

"Grandma?" Coconut looked at Grandma Mei's departing figure, somewhat puzzled. Grandma Mei was usually with her, so why did she leave today?

Who will cook lunch for her?

"Sisi, your grandma has gone to work and will be back to pick you up tonight. How about playing with your brother Gousheng today? Gousheng! Come and play with your little sister." Grandma Wang led Sisi's chubby hand into the house and started calling to her grandson who was hiding in the inner room.

“…Right away.” Wang Gousheng reluctantly put down the book in his hand, got off the kang (a heated brick bed), put on his shoes, and slowly walked out with his hands behind his back.

"Sisi, do you still remember Brother Gousheng?" Grandma Wang placed Sisi's chubby hand into her grandson's hand.

"Gousheng." Of course, Yesi remembered Wang Gousheng. People in the group had said that if they saw him urinating, they should call the police.

"Call me Ce Lou." Wang Gousheng frowned as he looked at Sisi, wanting to let go of her hand.

"Side leakage?" Coconut Silk didn't quite understand, but still thought Dog Leftovers was easier to pronounce.

“…Let go of her hand!” Wang Gousheng shook her a few times, but found that the girl was holding on very tightly and he couldn’t shake her off.

"Gousheng, how can you be so mean to your sister? You're the older brother, you should play with her." Grandma Wang couldn't stand it anymore, feeling that her grandson was too fierce.

"I want to read." Wang Gousheng knew that Grandma Wang was very supportive of him reading more, and he felt that as long as he gave this reason, Grandma Wang would agree to let him go to the inner room to stay by himself.

"You can read books and watch over your little sister at the same time, and you can also teach her." This time, Grandma Wang doesn't plan to leave her grandson alone in the house anymore.

"Her?" Wang Gousheng glanced at the silly Mei Si with some disdain, feeling that teaching this girl was a complete waste of his time.

"Sisi is very smart; she could talk when she was only six months old." Grandma Wang knew her grandson was very smart, but smart people usually don't have many friends.

Grandma Wang didn't want her grandson to grow up alone, so she wanted Sisi to spend more time with him.

"Can Sisi count?" Grandma Wang thought her grandson could start by teaching Sisi the simplest way.

"What is this?" Coconut didn't understand.

"Gousheng, quickly teach Sisi, start by teaching her to count on her fingers." Grandma Wang sat to the side, waiting to see what would happen.

"Sigh! Don't hold on so tightly, I'll teach you to count." Wang Gousheng sighed, and in the end, he did as Grandma Wang said and taught Sisi to count.

"Count?" Coconut Silk was a little curious. Who exactly was this "counter"?

“This is 1,” Wang Gousheng said, holding up one finger.

"1? What does that mean?" Coconut Silk stretched out a finger, not understanding why the finger was called "1".

"...In short, it's 1. Just remember that one finger is 1, and this one is 2." Wang Gousheng was taken aback by Sisi's question. How was he supposed to explain the meaning of numbers to a child who was not even 2 years old?

"2?" Ye Si was a little confused as she extended her index and middle fingers. She hesitated and withdrew her index finger, pointing her middle finger at Wang Gousheng.

“…No, it’s two fingers together that make a 2.” Wang Gousheng couldn’t help but straighten Sisi’s index finger.

“1! 2!” Ye Si thought Wang Gousheng was an idiot. She first pointed to her index finger to indicate that this was called “1”, and then pointed to her middle finger to indicate that this was called “2”.

"...Am I the one teaching you, or are you teaching me? I said two fingers together make 2, so it is 2!" Wang Gousheng looked at the silly Sisi with a headache, feeling that he shouldn't have agreed to teach her to count.

“2.” Coconut frowned, barely ignoring the index finger next to her that clearly showed a 1, pretending that she only saw the middle finger.

“This is 3.” Wang Gousheng added another ring finger.

Ye Si looked at Wang Gousheng's fingers, then looked down at hers, and after a long struggle, stretched out four fingers.

"...This is a 4! Not a 3!" For the first time, Wang Gousheng felt like cursing. Just how stupid was she? Was it really that hard to tell the difference between 3 and 4?

Coconut looked at Wang Gousheng with a puzzled expression, not understanding why his expression was distorted, or if he was uncomfortable?

"Be patient, your little sister is still young." Grandma Wang was secretly pleased to see her grandson get angry, but she still had to pretend to be very serious.

Wang Gousheng glanced at Grandma Wang, who was trying hard to suppress her laughter, and then at the silly Sisi, wondering why he was doing such a pointless thing here.

There was nothing she could do. Bu Yaoren only had four fingers, and even after being here for so long, she still couldn't control the extra finger.

"Phew! Look, this is 1, this is 2, this is 3, and these you're holding out now are 4, not 3." Wang Gousheng took a deep breath and began to teach Sisi to recognize the four fingers.

He first pointed to Sisi's index finger to indicate that this was 1, then pointed to Sisi's middle finger and said that this was 2. Next, he pointed to Sisi's ring finger and told her that this was 3. Sisi was now holding out 4 fingers, which represented 4.

"1234? 2? 2?" Coconut was even more confused. How come every finger has a number now? Didn't they just say that the index and middle fingers together make 2? How come the middle finger is 2 by itself?

"..." Wang Gousheng was dumbfounded when he saw Sisi extend her index and middle fingers to read "2", then retract her index finger and read "2" again with only her middle finger.

Wang Gousheng: I'm not suited to be a teacher. That's not what I just said, but that's how I taught.

"Pfft! Hahahaha..." Grandma Wang finally couldn't hold back anymore. It was just too funny to see her clever grandson being confused by Sisi.
