Chapter 25 Scraping off (Catching Bugs)

That evening, after Mei's father came home, Ye Si kept observing him, wanting to see what was so special about the head of the household in a world ruled by men.

Even Mei Liang was glanced at by Ye Si. Ye Si compared herself to Mei Liang and found that the only difference between them was that Mei Liang had an extra piece of flesh.

Coconut flakes: Does that meat represent status? Hmm? Why is there no answer? Where's the exam coupon?

Coconut shreds belatedly realized that the exam coupon had expired at some point.

"Why does Sisi keep looking at me today? Did she suddenly realize that her favorite person is her dad?" Mei's dad happily picked up his daughter and started to kiss her.

Coconut Flakes is pretty calm about nibbling on arms and legs, but when it comes to nibbling on the face, Coconut Flakes can't stand it. Why leave that hair there? It's so prickly!

Using both hands, she grabbed Dad Mei's beard and started pulling it.

"Ouch! Daughter, it hurts! Let go, Daddy won't kiss you anymore! Ouch! Ah!" Mei's father put his daughter on the kang (a heated brick bed), demonstrating with his actions that he would no longer kiss her.

Unfortunately, the coconut was fixated on pulling out the hair and showed no sign of letting go.

"Ouch! Ouch! That hurts!"

Mr. Mei didn't dare to pry his daughter's hand open for fear of hurting her. When Mrs. Mei heard the commotion, she came out from the inner room to coax her daughter to let go.

"Let go of Dad, let's stop pulling, it's time to eat meat."

She paused in her act of tugging at the hair; she still loved the meat, but Daddy Mei's hair was just too prickly.

"I'll have your dad shave off all his beard in a minute!" When Mei's mother saw that her daughter hadn't let go of the meat, she immediately understood how deep her daughter's resentment was about Mei's father's beard.

"Scrape?" Coconut shreds didn't understand what "scrape" meant.

“Yes, scrape it off!” Aunt Mei gestured.

Coconut still didn't quite understand, but she roughly grasped what Mei's mother meant. Coconut let go of Mei's father's beard and kept staring at him.

"Hiss! Another lot has been pulled out this time. Look, is he bald yet?" Dad Mei touched his beard, worried that a patch of it was missing.

"You'd better shave it off! Haven't you noticed that Sisi really hates your beard?" Mei's mother said, glaring at Mei's father.

"How could that be? Sisi was just playing around with me!" Mei's father didn't think his daughter was annoyed by pulling his beard; he just thought she was playing a game.

"Come on, Sisi has been staring at your beard the whole time. Shave it off quickly, or she'll start hitting you."

When Mei's father looked up, he saw that his daughter was indeed still staring at his beard. Suddenly, Mei's father felt a pain in his philtrum. He didn't want to experience the strength of his daughter's hand again.

“This beard has been with me for so long…” Mei’s father hesitated.

"Do you still want to kiss your daughter?"

Mei's mother was actually quite annoyed by Mei's father's beard, but no matter how many times she told him, he just wouldn't shave.

“Yes!”

"Then quickly shave it off!" Aunt Mei urged.

Coconut kept watching as Mei's father walked to the place where he washed his face every day, poured hot water as usual, and placed the wet towel on his fur.

Then he took out something that reflected light and started working on his hair.

Ye Si had never seen that thing before, so she quickly got off the kang (a heated brick bed) and ran to Mei's father, wanting to see it more clearly.

Startled, Mei's mother quickly followed, fearing that her daughter might suddenly touch Mei's father and knock the knife away, injuring herself.

"Old Mei, be careful, your daughter's here. Hold the knife steady." Mei's mother didn't want to suddenly pick up her daughter. Her daughter was too close to Mei's father, and she was afraid that if she picked her up, her daughter would move around and hit Mei's father again, which would definitely draw blood.

"Okay!" Dad glanced down, indicating that he understood.

Dad Mei was focused on shaving, Ye Si watched closely, and Mom Mei was nervously watching her daughter's movements, ready to pick her up at any moment.

Coconut flakes: What is this thing? It can cut things like a lightsaber, right? It looks more like an ancient stone knife.

After shaving, Mei's father was covered in sweat. He was nervous, afraid that his daughter might move around and he might lose his grip on the scalpel and hurt her.

As soon as Mei's father put down the knife, Mei's mother quickly picked up her daughter and began to discipline her.

"This thing is dangerous. You have to stay far away from it if you see it, understand?" Mei's mother warned her daughter sternly. This thing must not be touched.

"She's so young, how could she understand what you mean? Just don't let her see it in the future." Seeing his daughter's blank expression, Mei's father knew she hadn't understood what Mei's mother meant.

"Then you have to teach him early. Have you forgotten Sister Cheng's youngest son? His hand is practically useless."

Coconut looked back and forth between the two, then focused its gaze on the stone knife-like object.

I really want to take a look at the coconut flakes and see what they're made of. They look like metal. Can heavy metal be used to make knives?

Coconut flakes: Won't it affect speed when facing enemies?

Coconut felt really annoyed that she couldn't understand the alien language, and for the first time, she desperately wanted to learn it.

Coconut asked for another "study god coupon" from the group. She felt that although the "exam god coupon" was more powerful, it wouldn't help her with her speaking skills.

This time, Ye Si used the learning coupon and tried her best to remember the pronunciation every time she spoke, often repeating it several times to familiarize herself with the pronunciation.

Coconut also learned a new word, "za ni" (meaning "how to pronounce"). Whenever she points to something and says these two words, they immediately tell her what it is called.

Coconut Silk didn't know when this "genius possession" would end, so she didn't let any opportunity slip by and kept asking questions.

Grandma Mei was having a hard time keeping up with her suddenly studious granddaughter. She had been asking questions since morning and wouldn't even take a nap.

Grandma Mei suddenly thought of Old Wang's dog, Gou Sheng, and felt that such a granddaughter would surely make him talk more.

Grandma Mei simply put a thick cotton-padded coat, a hat, gloves, and cotton shoes on her incessantly chattering granddaughter and led her out the door.

"How do you pronounce it?" Ye Si asked, pointing to the gate of the courtyard.

“The door,” Grandma Mei said, her face contorted with worry.

"Door? Door door door door..." Coconut flakes began repeating incessantly.

Grandma Mei rubbed her temples and led her granddaughter on a walk toward the Wang family's house.

"How do you pronounce it?" Ye Si asked, pointing to the big tree outside the door.

"Tree."

"Trees, trees, trees, trees..."

Grandma Mei felt her head was spinning. For the first time, she thought it would be nice for her granddaughter to go to her maternal grandmother's house.

"I could hear Sisi's voice from inside the house." Grandma Wang heard the voice and quickly opened the door to greet her.

"Why are you out here? It's so cold outside. It would be better to wait inside." Grandma Mei quickly let go of her granddaughter's hand, took a few quick steps, and pushed Grandma Wang, who wasn't wearing a thick cotton-padded coat, into the house.

"How do you pronounce it?" Ye Si asked, pointing to the bicycle in the corner of the Wang family's house.

"Oh, so you're finally starting to talk?" Grandma Wang followed Grandma Mei's lead into the house.

“That’s right, she’s been pestering me all morning. I think your Gousheng is the best person for teaching her to talk,” Grandma Mei said, winking.

"Oh! Right! Gousheng! Go to the yard and keep an eye on your little sister Sisi! Gousheng? Did you hear me? Hurry up! Sisi is all alone in the yard!" Grandma Wang shouted into the inner room.

Wang Gousheng actually wanted to pretend he couldn't hear, but the room was only so big, there was no way he couldn't hear it.

"Hmm." Wang Gousheng reluctantly responded, put on his thick cotton-padded coat, and went out to see the annoying little girl next door.
