Chapter 80

"Meisi," Qu Zhenguo continued to mutter softly.

"Didn't you eat? Shout it out!" Coach Li shouted loudly in Qu Zhenguo's ear.

"Mess!!!" This shout of "Mess" was heard even by the javelin team members in the distance.

When the other teammates heard the shouts, they thought something had happened and all turned to look.

“Meisi? Why isn’t Meisi training? She trains with you every morning. That’s not considered leaving early; I allowed it. She has other classes to attend.” Coach Li didn’t expect that Qu Zhenguo would complain about Meisi only training for half a day.

"And what about everyone else?" Coach Li turned to look at the other team members and found that although they were all training, they were clearly glancing over here.

“Then…then I want to take her classes too.” Qu Zhenguo thought that Coach Li was giving Mei Si special tutoring.

"You're going to have an English class? Don't you hate English the most?"

"English?"

Why is it different from what he thought?

"Yeah, English. What did you think it was?" Coach Li narrowed his eyes. Was Qu Zhenguo thinking something else?

"I'm skipping the English class, Coach, I'm going to training." Qu Zhenguo turned and tried to run away.

"You come back here! Everyone else, stop practicing and come assemble!"

Everyone knew Coach Li was angry, so they didn't dare to dawdle and all ran over to assemble as quickly as possible.

"What nonsense are you all thinking about all day? You'd be better off focusing on training! Do you know why I gave Mays other classes? It's because she's better than you even without training!"

Coach Li stood in front of everyone with his hands on his hips and began to give a speech.

Coach Li suddenly had an idea. He turned around and went to the throwing area, where he planted a small red flag 20 meters away. He stood there, his eyes scanning over every member of the team.

"This is Mei Si's usual average performance. Look at her, she can throw 20 meters so easily. What about you? What's your best performance? I'm telling you right now! If any of you can surpass Mei Si's 20 meters, you can train for only half a day!!!"

The shot put team members are all at roughly the same level; none of them have particularly outstanding achievements, nor have any have been particularly bad. If this were the case in another team, the competition would be fierce, and they would not give up until a clear winner was determined.

For some reason, the shot put team behaved very calmly, and no one seemed to be thinking about surpassing their teammates or becoming number one.

Now that the strongest player has emerged, someone they cannot surpass for the time being, Coach Li believes they should all feel a sense of crisis.

Coach Li only set the target at 20 meters, not daring to set it too far. With 20 meters, they still have a chance if they try hard.

If the gap is too big, Coach Li is afraid that these teammates will start to doubt their lives and choose to leave the team.

Coach Li: Hmm, that pothole on the track absolutely couldn't have been caused by Mays!!!

"That far, impossible!"

"How old is she? Absolutely impossible."

"Is that why she joined the team at such a young age?"

"The coach wouldn't lie to us, it seems we all need to work harder!" Wu Chunmei looked at the little red flag and decided that she must train seriously from now on.

Wu Chunmei is the oldest in the team. She is not good at studying and only has a lot of strength. When she found out that she had been selected for the national team, she was so happy that she couldn't sleep all night. Her mind was full of thoughts of winning glory for the country.

After two years in the national team, she was repeating the same routine every day. She gradually forgot her initial ambitions and began to take training lightly.

For two years, Wu Chunmei's family did not receive any news of her winning an award. They began to think that it was a mistake to bring her to the national team, and that Wu Chunmei was not cut out for it.

The Wu family began writing letters frequently, urging Wu Chunmei to return home and get married, saying that if she returned too late, all the good men would be taken.

In her letter, Wu Chunmei explained that she had been training and had no opportunity to compete, but her family did not believe her and thought she was lying.

As she received more and more letters, Wu Chunmei began to waver. Perhaps she really shouldn't have come here; she was just wasting the country's food resources.

But she was unwilling to give up. She didn't want to go back like this. She wanted the country to remember her and the world to remember her!

From that day on, Wu Chunmei trained hard every day and diligently completed the tasks assigned by the coach.

After persisting for a while, Wu Chunmei watched her little red flag gradually approach 20 meters, and she suddenly felt a sense of satisfaction she had never experienced before.

Under Wu Chunmei's leadership, the shot put team members also began to work harder, each of them silently competing with each other, hoping to surpass Mei Si and everyone else.

A few months later, all the male members of the shot put team were able to throw over 20 meters, and two of the female members also threw over 20 meters, including Wu Chunmei.

Coach Li was very pleased and full of confidence in the Olympics; he believed the gold medal would definitely be theirs!

On Saturday night, Mei Si went home and told Wang Ma that she would be going abroad next month to participate in the Olympics.

Wang Ma was overjoyed, thinking that Mei Si was promising, being able to represent the country in international competitions at such a young age.

The next morning, Wang Ma took Mei Si directly to the department store and bought several trendy dresses and skirts from Hong Kong.

Every Monday, Wang Ma would call Mei Ma's workplace to tell her the good news.

When Mei's mother received the call, she was extremely excited. After hanging up, she immediately called Mei's father's workplace. The two discussed it over the phone and decided to take leave to go to Kyoto to find their daughter.

Mei Si's parents' factory leaders had already heard about her being on the national team and knew that the reason they were taking leave was to see her off. They were all very supportive and gave her a 7-day long leave.
