Chapter 16 Zhang Mo
Chen Wan looked up at him. Lin Yu's profile had smooth lines, a thin line folded from the drooping corners of his eyes, a high nose bridge, and slightly raised corners of his lips.
Being upright and gentle is the most upright tree in her heart.
In the dark night and neon lights, Lin Yu is the only dawn in her eyes.
The two of them fell into a tacit silence again, and unknowingly arrived at the entrance of the alley.
Lin Yu went to park the car and Chen Wan was waiting for him at the entrance of the corridor.
"By the way, this lucky charm is for you. Just think of it as psychological comfort." Lin Yu walked to her side, fumbled around for a few times, took out something and handed it to Chen Wan. Meeting her surprised gaze, he coughed twice a little unnaturally and said, "It's okay to be idealistic occasionally. It's better to believe it."
Chen Wan took it and looked at the words "Early Find a Good Match" on it. He was stunned. "What is this?"
Lin Yu then turned his head and looked over, also stunned. He had mistakenly handed the marriage amulet to Chen Wan.
"I gave it to the wrong person. Sorry." He smiled faintly and took out another one. This time it was the right one. It had the words "Good Luck" written on it. "This one is for you."
Chen Wan was amused by his confusion and handed him the marriage amulet, but pretended to ask him casually, "Have you been looking for a marriage partner recently?"
Hearing this, Lin Yu frowned and sighed, "Ah, you know, this is what happens to older men."
Then he casually told Chen Wan a few words about Lin Ma's eagerness for him to fall in love, and added at the end, "Who wouldn't want to fall in love?"
He subconsciously ignored Lin Ma's outlandish guess about the sisters. When he thought of this, he couldn't help but recall the intimacy and indescribable ambiguity when Chen Wan's soft fingertips rubbed against his palm in the evening.
Chen Wan expressed a little sympathy for him, and then asked, "So you don't have anyone you like right now?"
Lin Yu came back to his senses from his wandering thoughts and hummed vaguely.
He himself doesn't know either.
Chen Wan nodded, put the lucky charm into his pocket, and also kept his momentary expectation deep in his heart.
He doesn't like himself.
The two of them said goodbye hurriedly, each with their own thoughts, turned around, opened their doors, and then closed them again.
After washing up, Chen Wan reviewed the Chinese language test for tomorrow, checked his file bag, and breathed a sigh of relief after making sure everything was ready.
She leaned against the head of the bed, holding the lucky charm in her hand, and looked at it silently for a long time.
Because of Chen Shan, she witnessed the reality and cruelty of this society earlier than her peers, and also endured a lot of blatant malice.
She knew that this was a world with clearly marked prices. If you wanted to possess something or ask for something, you had to have enough bargaining chips.
She has nothing now, so how can she dare to hope to be loved by Lin Yu?
Chen Wan stuck the lucky charm on his forehead and then lay on his back. No matter what, he had to get over the hurdle of the college entrance examination first. At least he and he would be adults on the social level.
She felt very conflicted. She wanted to be the little kid next to Lin Yu and accept his care as a matter of course.
But now I want to grow up quickly and stand shoulder to shoulder with him.
Emotions are inherently complex and changeable. The more you delve into them, the more you worry about them.
She reflected on herself groggily and fell asleep.
At 7:30 the next day, Chen Wan woke up naturally. After washing and getting ready, he opened the door and unexpectedly saw Lin Yu living opposite him.
He was standing in the sparse, bright morning light. When he heard the noise, he straightened up a little, smiled casually, and asked her, "Have you brought everything?"
Chen Wan nodded, "Don't you have to go to the police station today?"
"I took half a day off on purpose. I'll probably be living in the team dormitory for the next week or so, so this morning won't be a big deal." Lin Yu explained briefly and then said, "Let's go. I'll drive you to the exam venue."
Chen Wan didn't refuse and followed him into the car.
The road was quite smooth. Although the traffic was all in a straight line, no one was honking their horns.
The scene was even somewhat solemn and dignified.
"There's bread and juice in the drawer in front of you. Eat some first." Lin Yu leaned over and opened the storage box in front of her. "Eat something sweet to replenish your blood sugar and help you stay drowsy."
He was always so considerate. Chen Wan thanked him and then ate his breakfast obediently.
Soon we arrived at the school gate, which was crowded with people. The young people's eyes showed some joy and some sorrow, but they were all filled with fighting spirit.
Chen Wan unbuckled his seatbelt and said, "Thank you. I'm going into the examination room now."
Lin Yu nodded, and when she opened the car door, he suddenly grabbed her wrist.
Chen Wan looked back at him, a little surprised.
Lin Yu picked out a handful of White Rabbit candies and handed them to her, "Take this too."
Chen Wan laughed. She was not a kindergarten kid, but just looking at the candies made her feel sweet in her heart.
The car behind beeped, and Lin Yu made a cheering gesture to her, then slowly turned the car around and left.
"Chen Wan, over here!" When she was staring at Lin Yu walking away in a trance, she was brought back to her senses by the shouting of her deskmate.
"Here I am." She put the candy in her pocket and entered the examination room with her deskmate.
The three days of the college entrance examination can be described as sunny and clear.
In fact, it’s similar to what Lin Yu said, the college entrance examination is just an exam.
The only difference is that no one will correct wrong questions in this exam.
It is a test paper in life that does not need to be revised.
When Chen Wan later recalled the college entrance examination, she only remembered that after finishing the last English class, she glanced out the window casually.
I saw a few scattered rays of sunlight falling on the lush spring feathers in the flower garden.
The dazzling white, the rich green, the silent yet noisy scene show the vibrant life of the world.
This scene remained in her memory for many years.
She walked out of the examination room and said goodbye to her deskmate.
"Chen Wan, I'll ask you out this summer!" Her deskmate was a lively and enthusiastic person. She held her hand and said emotionally, "Even after graduation, our friendship won't fade."
Chen Wan nodded, but at that time neither of them thought that a goodbye and a turn were the final gift of parting.
Walking out of the school gate, she passed through the bustling crowd. In the atmosphere of reluctant farewell, she seemed lonely.
She hadn't expected to see Lin Yu, but she didn't expect to see him. He rolled down half of the window, stretched out his hand and greeted her, "Wanzai, this way!"
Chen Wan was stunned for a moment, then quickly stepped forward to enter his sight. With his eyes lowered, he asked seriously, "Didn't you say the team was very busy?"
"That depends on priorities." He gestured for Chen Wan to get in the car first, "Let me take you home first, then we'll talk."
Chen Wan opened the car door and sat next to him.
Unexpectedly, there was light music playing in Lin Yu's car this time. The music was about green mountains and green fields, with a long and soothing rhythm.
Chen Wan closed his eyes slightly, feeling the naturalness and comfort in his heart.
Lin Yu hesitated for a moment, looking hesitant, and Chen Wan caught his hesitation.
"What do you want to say?"
Lin Yu chuckled twice and asked, "How do you feel after the exam?"
"I don't know the results, what aspect do you want to know about?"
Hearing her relaxed tone, Lin Yu's tense mood relaxed a lot, "I just wanted to ask how you feel."
"How did you feel after taking the exam that year?" Chen Wan asked instead of answering.
Lin Yu's eyebrows furrowed slightly, and he thought seriously for a moment, "I can't remember anything else, I just feel refreshed and liberated."
"Me too." Chen Wan agreed with him, smiling.
When Lin Yu was about to talk about something else, Chen Wan's cell phone rang.
The words "Chen Shan" were jumping on the screen.
Lin Yu silently raised his hand and moved it to the volume button, intending to mute it.
However, Chen Wan glanced at the caller indifferently, then hung up the call.
Lin Yu withdrew his hand and thought about finding some topics to relieve Chen Wan's emotions.
"By the way, are you going back to school after the exam?"
Chen Wan shook his head. "No, and I sold all my textbooks."
"I sold it, smart." Lin Yu smiled. "When I graduated, throwing books was very popular. Everyone threw test papers and homework papers all over the campus."
"It still exists now, but our school doesn't allow it and will result in a demerit."
"I didn't throw them away back then. I borrowed a tricycle with my childhood friend, picked up all the discarded books, and took them to the scrap collection station. We made a small profit and could eat Want Want Crushed Ice every day for the entire summer vacation." He said in a proud tone, and his open eyebrows and eyes showed a smile.
"Then you are really smart." Chen Wan cooperated and praised him. Lin Yu is still very childish.
After Lin Yu sent Chen Wan home, he went back to the police station to work overtime. The case he was currently handling had entered the criminal prosecution stage, and he had to run back and forth between the police station and the court.
He was so busy that he didn't go back to the alley for more than half a month.
Chen Wan found a summer job in a flower shop.
It was near the end of the working day when Lin Yu met his old classmate Zhang Mo again.
He was wearing a black mask, revealing only a pair of black eyes, but one could tell how haggard he looked without looking closely.
"Please help me wrap a bouquet of white roses." Zhang Mo walked around the store with a low voice.
After Chen Wan wrapped the bouquet for him, she handed it to him. Zhang Mo then looked up at her with a gleam in his eyes.
"Lin Yu's sister!"
Chen Wan smiled subtly, "Hello."
Zhang Mo is a calm and composed person. When he meets someone he knows, he subconsciously maintains his upbringing and temperament.
"Long time no see." He said, and naturally became closer to Chen Wan.
The florist came over apologetically and said, "Sir, our shop is closing soon."
Zhang Mo looked at the sky outside the window. It looked even darker and gloomier because of the rain.
"Let me take you home. I need to talk to Lin Yu about something." Zhang Mo took the bouquet, looked at Chen Wan, and said the question in a statement tone.
Chen Wan wanted to refuse, but Zhang Mo called Lin Yu without hesitation and said, "Xiao Lin, I'll send your sister back later. You clean up your little house. I'll stay at your place tonight."
Lin Yu had just arrived home when he was woken up by his phone call. He mumbled, "Okay," with a thick nasal tone in his voice.
Zhang Mo hung up the phone and asked Chen Wan, "We've reported it. Let's go. Your brother is waiting for us."
Chen Wan had no choice but to get into the car politely.
Because it was raining, Zhang Mo didn't open the car window, but wearing a mask made him feel suffocated, so he took it off.
Chen Wan looked at him calmly, and seeing his dark pupils shimmering with a faint watery light and his slightly red and swollen eyelids, it only deepened his heartbreak and exhaustion.
The bouquet of white roses lost a few petals as the car bumped around occasionally.
Chen Wan is not a nosy person, or rather, when it comes to people she is not familiar with, she always stays on the edge of her emotions, with a sense of indifference.
After Lin Yu slept for a while, he remembered the phone call, yawned, grabbed his phone and called Zhang Mo again, "When will you arrive?"
Thoughts: I finally picked up the pace. I felt like the last chapter was just a filler when I read it myself. (Shame on me) The writing style and rhythm are very lengthy. This is really bad. It really drags the story down. From this chapter onwards, I will quickly skip over anything that involves the timeline. The plot afterwards will basically just be about what's going on. Every time I write, I feel like I'm turning into a lyrical prose writer. Reviewing...
Thanks again to Jiamei, baby, and Orange, and those who clicked on this work. Seeing the seven or eight little cuties who stayed, hahahaha, I can still keep a few of them with my updating rhythm. Really, I am lucky.
There will be a guest appearance by Zhou Zhou in the next chapter, so happy!!!
