Chapter 21 Fragments
When Chen Wan woke up, there were only four big words in his mind, which he learned from Zhang Mo when he was drunk yesterday.
"It's over!"
She closed her eyes heavily and sighed.
With her hands drooping in front of her forehead, she fell on her back on the bed again. After a while, she saw the morning light streaming into the bedroom. The white gauze curtains filtered the pale yellow light, making it gentle and lovely.
Chen Wan didn't want to get up, but he also didn't want to just lie in bed and think about random things.
What happened last night kept replaying in her mind. She felt confused and annoyed. In the TV dramas and novels she watched before, didn't the people in the dramas and novels have amnesia when they got drunk?
How come when she got here, every scene was more detailed than a slide show.
Not to mention that the details were not blurred at all, but the frame rate was extremely slow and the image quality was extremely high definition, which repeatedly crushed her psychological defenses.
It was so embarrassing. Let’s put aside the fact that I cried, but I couldn’t hide the fact that I was acting like a spoiled child and asking for a hug. It was really too embarrassing, I was embarrassed to the point of being humiliated.
Chen Wan raised his hand and scratched his soft hair a few times in frustration, making it as messy as his mood.
And wasn't she crying alone last night because her confession failed?
The more Chen Wan thought about it, the more annoyed he became, wondering how he should continue to get along with Lin Yu.
Now that she thought carefully about the ambiguous "Really?", she didn't dare to admit what she wanted to ask.
Thinking of this, I felt even more depressed.
And the dream about her mother last night was so real that it made her feel melancholy. Sorrow was like a thin mist, lightly lingering in her heart.
She also dreamed of Chen Shan. When she thought of this name, her mind went blank, as it seemed like she had not contacted him for a long time.
Where is he and how is he doing?
Chen Wan took out her cell phone and looked through the call logs. The most recent call between her and Chen Shan was on the afternoon after the college entrance examination. He called, but she didn't answer, and it became a missed call marked in red.
Chen Wan looked at the number he knew so well in silence for a moment, then pressed the dial button as if possessed by a ghost.
After the noisy ringtone ended, a cold and polite robotic female voice came over, "Sorry, the user you dialed is busy. Please try again later."
Chen Wan hung up the phone neatly, calmly dealing with the melancholy in his heart, and vaguely felt relieved.
This phone call was actually the beginning of a reconciliation she set for herself. She thought that maybe she could wait a little longer, until she reunited with Chen Shan, until the day when they could resolve their past grudges.
Little did I know that this call that didn't go through would forever become a missed call.
Chen Wan lay on the bed for a while, rehearsing in his mind what to say when he saw Lin Yu next.
After much thought, she decided to pretend to be drunk to write off yesterday's embarrassment and confusion.
And if she returns to her original limits, Lin Yu will probably feel much more at ease.
As for that seemingly false love, it is like last night's wine and last night's dreams. It is most reasonable to let it evaporate with time.
After sorting out her thoughts, she got up and washed up.
Because of the hangover, his throat was hot and dry, and his face was pale. He didn't need to pretend to be blackout, as he looked like he was not sober at all.
After complaining about herself, she tied her hair into a low ponytail and planned to go out for breakfast and then go to her part-time job.
When I was bending down to put on my shoes at the entrance, I heard the morning crosstalk coming from next door.
Zhang Mo drooped his brows, looking utterly cowardly. "Brother Yu, I absolutely will not bring alcohol to your house next time, and I certainly won't force a young girl to drink. I'm a scumbag!" He held up four fingers and swore in a nonsensical way, "Really? If this happens again next time, you'll handcuff me for drunkenness and causing trouble!"
He spoke with great confidence, trying to make up for the stupid thing he did yesterday.
Lin Yu leaned calmly against the door frame, watching Zhang Mo perform antics.
"I'll treat you to breakfast. You can choose any restaurant in South City that you want." Zhang Mo waved his hand generously. "Oh, call your sister too. Her name is Chen Xiaowan, right?"
"Chen Wan."
"Oh, Chen Wan." Zhang Mo nodded, and there was an extra person in his peripheral vision. It was Chen Wan who had just spoken.
Lin Yu's attention was also drawn to the voice. He put away his nonchalant attitude and gave Chen Wan a faint smile. "Awake?"
Chen Wan nodded, but suddenly he didn't know how to say the lines he had rehearsed in his head, so he replied vaguely, "Good morning."
Lin Yu looked at her calmly. She was wearing a loose and soft white short-sleeved shirt casually tied at her waist, paired with black overalls. Her hair was tied low, which perfectly modified her face shape and made her look quiet and pretty.
Chen Wan became the same person she used to be, maintaining a slight sense of alienation from others.
After saying good morning to each other, neither of them could find the next topic for a while, so they looked around and pretended to be casual and perfunctory with each other.
"Let's go, let's go have breakfast!"
Zhang Mo greeted Chen Wan enthusiastically, then tried to put his arm around Lin Yu's shoulders, but was brushed away in disgust by him.
The summer rain comes quickly and goes away even faster. When you walk out of the corridor, you can only see a very shallow layer of water on the ground, which is wet and damp.
Chirping birds occasionally fly over the water, leaving behind a shadow.
The sky in the early morning is like a tranquil sea, transparent blue. The sparse, bright sunlight falls between the long branches and thin leaves, filtering out irregular spots of light.
"What a nice day." Zhang Mo took two deep breaths of fresh air and said with a smile, "Good morning, summer."
When Lin Yu heard his words, his forehead jumped and he said rudely, "Non-mainstream."
Chen Wan agreed to this and thought of the dream he had in the second half of the night. He vaguely remembered that Lin Yu in the dream said that Zhang Mo was a fool.
This dream is quite real. Zhang Mo is really a fool.
Lin Yu and Chen Wan walked to the breakfast stall one after the other, as if they were familiar with the place. After sitting down, they naturally read out the menu.
"One potato bun, one steamed dumpling, two servings of tofu pudding, a tea egg and a fried dough stick." After Lin Yu smoothly listed the breakfast items he and Chen Wan usually had, he met Zhang Mo's playful eyes.
"You don't want to eat?" Lin Yu raised his eyebrows and looked at him.
Zhang Mo glanced at Chen Wan, then turned his gaze to Lin Yu again, "Do you two often have breakfast together? Xiaolin, you are very familiar with Xiaowan's taste."
Chen Wan was stunned when she heard this. Some things had become a habit, and when they were pointed out to her by outsiders, she unconsciously felt a little guilty.
For example, Lin Yu's meticulous care for her.
Lin Yu didn't take it to heart and turned a deaf ear to Zhang Mo's teasing.
Zhang Mo was bored and also focused on the types of breakfast.
"It's been a long time since I sat at a roadside breakfast stall and ate soy milk and fried dough sticks. I really miss this feeling." Zhang Mo happily ordered a serving of soy milk and fried dough sticks.
Lin Yu expressed no comment on his rich man's remarks. When he was about to take the spoon to stir the tofu pudding, Chen Wan had already handed it to him.
"Thank you." Lin Yu took it and pushed the steamed bun plate in front of Chen Wan.
Zhang Mo took in their interaction, raised his eyebrows slightly, and secretly pondered the smooth understanding and casualness between Lin Yu and Chen Wan.
After taking a bite of the tofu pudding, he exclaimed, "This is really delicious."
Zhang Mo loves to chat with others while eating, calling it traditional Chinese dining culture.
He drank some soy milk, opened up his mouth, and gave Chen Wan an embarrassed smile. "Sister Chen Wan, I'm so sorry for letting you drink last night. Your brother has already severely criticized me. This was really my fault. I sincerely apologize to you."
Upon hearing this, Chen Wan paused stirring the tofu pudding. After considering for a moment, he pretended to be nonchalant and said, "It's okay. I don't remember anything about what happened last night."
Lin Yu, who was peeling tea eggs nearby, raised his eyebrows slightly when he heard her say she had no impression of it. Then he lowered his eyes and continued to peel the eggshells without distraction. He inexplicably began to compete with himself.
He wondered in his heart whether this was a good thing or a bad thing. Logically, he should be relieved that he could maintain the balance of the past, but he felt a sense of loss in his heart.
"You're blacking out, right? It's common. Usually, when you're drunk, you do embarrassing things and forget about them. But you really scared me last night when you suddenly started crying..."
Before Zhang Mo could finish his words, his mouth was blocked by a round tea egg, which made him gasp for air and angrily look at Lin Yu, the instigator.
"Even eating can't stop your mouth, Brother Octopus. Not only do you have a lot of legs, you also talk a lot." Lin Yu said in a light tone and glanced at him.
I thought to myself that Zhang Mo was a man who always talked about things that were not related to the topic. He always seemed to be asking for trouble the moment he opened his mouth.
Chen Wan absentmindedly stirred the soy milk with a spoon until a small vortex formed, his vision drifting away. Then, slowly calming himself, he said lightly, "I don't remember clearly."
Zhang Mo chewed his tea egg while pondering Lin Yu's words about having many legs. After a while, he took a sip of soy milk to calm down and said angrily, "Do you mean I like to cheat? I tell you, I haven't done that for a long time. Besides, that's called philanthropy. As a man, it's inevitable. That's called socializing."
When Chen Wan heard his remarks that all the people in the world are as evil as crows, he rarely showed an expression of disgust.
After breakfast, Lin Yu was going to report to the team, and Chen Wan was going to work part-time at the flower shop. Zhang Mo wanted to give her a ride, but Chen Wan had already ridden away on her bicycle.
Lin Yu ignored him, said good morning to his neighbors, and drove away.
Zhang Mo sighed, "What kind of brother is this? He's not considerate at all."
Then he drove his flashy luxury car back home.
After Lin met the criminal investigation team, he happened to meet Qiao Yue.
"Your dark circles are quite obvious. Didn't you sleep last night?" Qiao Yue leaned the back of her chair against his seat and leaned over to ask him.
Lin Yu subconsciously touched his eye sockets and replied casually, "A friend of mine came to my house for a drink last night. He made a lot of noise all night, and I really didn't sleep well."
"Oh." Qiao Yue nodded, "You drank too?"
"I drank alcohol at work and I'm looking for punishment." Lin Yu laughed, and suddenly an idea popped into his mind. He turned his head to look at Qiao Yue and asked, "Senior Sister, I have something I want to talk to you about."
Qiao Yue raised her eyebrows and smiled at him with interest, "Come on, there will be nothing to talk about when Old Zheng comes later."
The "Old Zheng" she mentioned refers to Zheng Guoshu, the director of the Criminal Investigation Bureau, who is comparable to the dean of studies in her student days.
Lin Yu held a pen in his hand, pondered for a moment, and said carefully, "It's like this. My buddy came to me yesterday to talk to me about his relationship. The girl he liked seemed to have expressed her feelings to him yesterday, but the girl was drunk and didn't say clearly whether she liked me or not..."
"You mean the girl your buddy liked confessed her love to him last night!" Qiao Yue's eyes widened. "And then what?!"
Thoughts: Thank you to the sisters who are still reading this work. I thought the love line would be quick, but it's been 20 chapters and they're still not together. But it seems that whether they are together or not doesn't make much difference. I really want to write a group portrait, but the length and ability are limited. It's time for my favorite Qiao Yue to appear again. I feel comfortable every time I conceive a line for her, because Chen Wan and I have completely different personalities. As I was writing, I felt like I was giving up. Next is a plot I originally wanted to like very much, going to the mountains to play, combined with my previous summer vacation back to the countryside, so I'll write it slowly. Thank you Youran, Yunmei, and that cute little persimmon, and the cute little people who have collected me. Thank you, I will work hard to write. Please don't ask too much about criminal investigation knowledge. I also checked the information, but after thinking about it, I will play to my strengths and avoid my weaknesses. In general, I still can't write detective stories. After all, I haven't seen or collected any folk songs, so I dare not write casually. I'm too weak. Thank you for watching!!!
