Chapter 267 Odd Jobs

Chapter 267 Odd Jobs

Zhao Ronger's face changed. She didn't expect Chi Wenyan to be so disrespectful to her.

She bit her lip, a hint of anger flashed in her eyes, but soon it turned into an expression of aggrieved.

"Brother Ayan, why are you so cruel? I like you so much, can't you give me a chance?" The delicate voice had a hint of crying, looking delicate and artificial.

"Sorry, you can find someone better. We are not suitable."

Seeing that being soft was not working, Zhao Ronger's eyes showed a hint of ruthlessness, but she quickly hid it.

She slowly put the food in her hand on the table, a smile on her lips.

"Brother Yan, this meal will get cold if you don't eat it now. Why don't you eat first?"

Chi Wenyan gave her a cold look and stood in the corner without saying a word.

Zhao Ronger gritted her teeth and thought to herself, this is really a tough nut to crack.

Seeing him like this, Zhao Ronger knew that it was pointless to say more, so she snorted coldly, turned around and left. Before leaving, she did not forget to look back at Chi Wenyan with a flirtatious look.

Chi Wenyan breathed a sigh of relief as he watched Zhao Ronger leave.

I looked at the fragrant food on the table, but didn't dare to touch it.

There must be something fishy about the food. If he eats it, who knows what will happen to him tomorrow.

With a flash of disgust in his eyes, Chi Wenyan took out two hardened steamed buns from his arms. The buns were slightly deformed from being pressed and still had the residual warmth of his body on them.

I was looking out the window and eating a steamed bun, with a lot of thoughts in my mind.

Zhao Ronger waited outside for half the night, until the moon was high in the sky and the cold wind was blowing.

During this time, she tiptoed and peeked inside through the crack in the door from time to time, but what she saw was Chi Wenyan gnawing on a hard steamed bun.

Zhao Ronger's face became increasingly ugly, and anger spread in her heart.

"Stinky man."

She kicked the door open and turned to leave with gritted teeth.

The next morning, Chi Wenyan stood at the door of the house, took a deep breath of the air that smelled of fish and the saltiness of the sea, his brows furrowed, and he decided to save money to leave this place.

The fishing village is not big. Chi Wenyan walked towards the center of the village along the winding path.

At the village pier, fishermen are busy packing up their fishing gear, preparing to go out to sea to fish.

During the few days he spent here, he learned about the situation in the village. In recent years, the young people have gone to other places to work, and some elderly people make a living by fishing.

But this is a physical job, and older people can't do it after a few shifts, so they recruit some short-term part-time workers, such as children who are in school.

So it's relatively easy to find a job here.

However, before he reached the dock to ask the foreman, Chi Wenyan's outstanding appearance was particularly eye-catching in this fishing village.

He was tall, handsome, and had a certain aura. When the women in the village saw him passing by, they would secretly glance over.

Chi Wenyan ignored those gazes. Near the dock, there was a small fish processing workshop.

Chi Wenyan walked in and asked if he needed help. The owner of the workshop looked at him and nodded when he saw that he was strong and healthy.

"For a newbie, the salary isn't high, only eight dollars an hour. Be careful. All the fish needs to be sold on the same day after processing, and we're sending it to the county supermarket. Don't damage it."

"rest assured."

He stood in front of a pile of fish that gave off a strong fishy smell, picked up a knife and started processing the fish.

Although his movements were a little unfamiliar at the beginning, he was very serious. Chi Wenyan has a strong learning ability and he learned it after watching his boss do it a few times.

In less than half an hour, it was handled very skillfully.

Time passed quickly and it was noon. The sun was getting brighter and sweat was oozing from his forehead and sliding down his angular cheeks.

There were quite a few young girls gathered in the fish shops, each carrying a bamboo basket to buy fish.

"Hey, I don't usually see you guys shopping so often."

"Oh, isn't this because the fish is fresh today?"

Everyone is interested in other things.

"Boy, ask them to weigh it. The scale is right in front of you on the left."

Chi Wenyan weighed the items for the people queuing in front of him. The portions they bought were small, and when they weighed them, they found that they were not enough, so they had to cut them into pieces first.

Chi Wenyan was very skilled with his knife. In just a few breaths, he had cut a squid.

Chi Wenyan felt that he had learned this action a long time ago, but he had no such experience when he was a child. Moreover, since he came to this fishing village, he always had an indescribable sense of familiarity.

"Your squid, take it."

"Handsome guy, you are so thoughtful. You even come to cut it for us yourself." After she said that, there was a burst of laughter from those around her.

Chi Wenyan ignored her and just silently packed the seafood for the people behind him.

The girl who approached him didn't seem to be deterred by Chi Wenyan's coldness.

He bravely moved forward again. The smell of the cheap perfume on his body was a bit pungent.

Chi Wenyan stepped back a little and frowned slightly.

"Do you live alone? You look unfamiliar, are you from another place? Your accent doesn't sound local either. Where is your home? Why did you come back to visit relatives?" Chi Wenyan frowned.

"It has nothing to do with you." The girl's smile froze on her face, but she still didn't give up and continued to test him, "Oh, you are so cold and indifferent. You will never get a wife in the future."

"Don't bother with that. There's a queue behind you. Please make way."

The air around them seemed to have cooled down because of Chi Wenyan's cold words.

The girl stomped her feet, picked up the seafood and walked away, and people followed her.

Time flies, and the busy day is finally over. Today in this small workshop, I was so busy that I was dizzy and my back ached from all the chores. Fortunately, today's remuneration was pretty good.

The boss counted the money in his hand, his face full of smiles, and handed some more to Chi Wenyan, jokingly saying as he handed it to him, "You're quite good, young man. Look, I've been here for so many years, and I've never seen so many girls come here."

Chi Wenyan took the money, responded briefly, was silent for a moment, looked up and asked the boss, "Boss, is there any place to buy mobile phones nearby? My phone is broken and I need to buy a new one."

The boss scratched his head, thought for a moment, and said, "There's a mobile phone store nearby, but most of the phones they sell are second-hand. If you don't mind, you can go and have a look. You might be able to find a good one."

Chi Wenyan nodded and turned to look at the dock.

"Boss, how are odd jobs at the docks paid?"

"One hundred dollars a day. After all, going out to sea is unsafe and it's physically demanding. Since you're young and strong, you should be able to get a higher salary. The boats usually leave in the morning and evening. You can catch the evening boat, which is faster and can be back before dark."

"Thank you very much."

Then he can work two jobs, buy a cell phone and leave here. He can't stay here forever.

"What's your name, young man? I haven't even heard of you for a long time."

Wen Yan lowered his eyes. He couldn't remember his name, but he vaguely remembered that his last name was Chi.

"Just call me Xiao Chi."
