Chapter 274: Rhetoric

Chapter 274: Rhetoric

As the door slammed shut, Zhao Ronger's voice was isolated inside the house.

The village chief stood there, sighed deeply, and felt helpless.

I don’t know why Rong’er is so stubborn, and I don’t know how to make her understand my good intentions.

At night, the quiet village was shrouded in darkness, with only the occasional barking of dogs breaking the silence.

Zhao Rong'er sat in the room, her eyes occasionally glancing at the closed door, her mind calculating. Finally, she gritted her teeth, quietly walked to the door, removed a hairpin, and began to pry the lock.

Her hands were shaking, partly because she was nervous and partly because she was afraid of being discovered.

After some effort, the door lock clicked open. Zhao Ronger opened the door carefully, looked around, and after confirming that no one was there, she tiptoed out.

She tore her clothes into a mess, and her hair was a little disheveled, and ran towards where Chi Wenyan lived.

At this time, Chi Wenyan was in the room, looking at his mobile phone in the dim light, frowning and thinking about how to get to Kyoto.

Leaving the fishing village was easy, but if he settled in Kyoto, he would have difficulty moving without an ID card. Moreover, he didn't remember who he was, which made his situation even worse.

The phone screen was off, Chi Wenyan turned it on again, and the screensaver showed a photo of a woman, which was saved from an encyclopedia.

One time, he passed by a convenience store and saw an advertisement on the convenience store's TV commercials. The woman's face appeared once and he could never forget it.

Her subconscious told her that this was the person in her dream.

I went to Kyoto to find her.

Just when I was lost in thought, there was a knock on the door.

Chi Wenyan was startled by the sudden voice. He stood up cautiously, hesitated for a moment, and asked softly, "Who?"

Zhao Ronger's sobbing voice came from outside the door: "Brother Yan, please save me, I really have no other choice."

Chi Wenyan frowned, but still opened the door.

As soon as the door opened, Zhao Ronger was seen standing at the door with disheveled clothes and messy hair, tears in her eyes, looking pitiful.

Zhao Ronger suddenly threw herself into Chi Wenyan's arms, sobbing, "Brother Yan, save me! My dad wants to sell me to an old man from another village. I don't want to go. I'm scared. Brother Yan, please take me away. I know you're a good person."

"Come in first, don't be anxious, talk slowly."

Chi Wenyan stepped aside to let Zhao Ronger in.

Zhao Ronger was delighted. Brother Yan actually let her into the house. Did he have her in his heart?

The more she thought about it, the more excited she became. Zhao Rong glanced at Chi Wenyan from time to time.

Chi Wenyan walked to the table, lowered his eyes, picked up the kettle and poured water, his eyes glancing at Zhao Ronger. He only remembered that his last name was Chi, but Zhao Ronger always called him Brother Yan, so she must know something.

"Why did the village chief marry you to a man from another village?"

Zhao Ronger wiped her tears and sobbed, "Brother Yan, you don't know, my father owes a lot of money from gambling, and now he can't pay it back, so he wants to sell me to that old man from the other village. That old man is over 50 years old, how can I marry him?"

Chi Wenyan handed her a glass of water and asked casually, "It's no use coming to me. I'm just an outsider and I don't remember anything. You might as well go find Wang Qiang. After all, you know each other well."

"As for that lazy guy Wang Qiang, I'll be in jail sooner or later if I follow him. Brother Yan, after all, I saved you, so just take me out as a reward."

Chi Wenyan's eyes turned cold, "You rescued me? Wasn't it the village chief and others who rescued me?"

Zhao Ronger held the water cup, stunned for a moment, and immediately whispered, "Brother Yan, don't worry about those details. When you were washed ashore, a little girl like me couldn't pull you out, so I asked my dad and others to pull you out."

Chi Wenyan chuckled softly, "I've always been curious about this question. I only remember that my last name is Chi, so why do you always call me Brother Yan?"

Zhao Ronger looked flustered for a moment and quickly said, "Well, actually, when you were unconscious, I found a business card in your clothes, but it was blurred out and I only saw a name. I guessed it might be your name. I thought you remembered your name after all these days, so I didn't tell you."

Chi Wenyan narrowed his eyes slightly and continued to ask, "What's my name? What else is written on the business card?"

Zhao Ronger bit her lip and hesitated for a moment before saying, "I only saw the name. I couldn't make out the other words clearly, Brother Yan. But your name is really nice, Chi Wenyan."

Chi Wenyan did not answer her question, but thought quickly in his mind.

The name card only had a name on it, which meant his identity was definitely not simple, but why was he unconscious and had lost his memory? There must be something hidden.

He glanced at Zhao Ronger, whose eyes were a little evasive. Chi Wenyan felt something in his heart, thinking that she might have something to say.

"Think about it carefully. Is there really no other information on the business card? This is very important to me." Chi Wenyan's voice became serious.

Zhao Ronger's body trembled slightly, and she lowered her head, not daring to look at Chi Wenyan. After a while, she whispered, "Brother Yan, I... I actually saw a pattern, but I didn't recognize it, so I didn't say anything."

Chi Wenyan was delighted and asked quickly, "What pattern? Describe it in detail."

Zhao Ronger raised her head and tried to recall it. "It was a very small pattern, like a flower, but not quite like an ordinary flower. The petals were a strange shape, and there were some lines surrounding them."

Chi Wenyan frowned and searched his mind for memories related to this pattern, but found nothing. However, this was at least a new clue.

"Brother Yan, now that I've told you all this, just let me go with you." Zhao Ronger came over pitifully and moved her body towards Chi Wenyan.

"If you go with me, neither of us will have a good ending," Chi Wenyan said coldly.

"Then let's elope and go to Kyoto." Zhao Ronger's face was full of anticipation.

Chi Wenyan shook his head and looked at the moonlight outside the window. "It's getting late. You should go back."

"Brother Yan, I really like you. Please don't chase me away. As long as we have done this, my dad will have to agree even if he disagrees. Once you marry me, we will no longer be strangers. If anyone dares to say anything bad about you, I will be the first to vent your anger." Zhao Ronger's voice was full of pleading.

"You should respect yourself and love yourself, not be like this." Chi Wenyan's eyes flashed with disgust, "Also, I'm not a fool, your lies are too fake."
