Chapter 297 The Past Emerges

Chapter 297 The Past Emerges

"Get out of the way." Ji Wan said coldly.

"What else?" Chi Lin raised his lips with a playful smile.

A flash of anger flashed in Ji Wan's eyes, and he raised his hand and slapped him loudly.

“Bang!”

The crisp sound was particularly harsh in the noisy bar.

Chi Lin's face turned to one side, and five bright red finger marks immediately appeared on his left cheek.

"Chi Lin, don't forget, we are divorced. You have no right to treat me like this!" Ji Wan said coldly, pushed him away, and strode away.

Chi Lin covered his face and watched Ji Wan's receding back, a dark light flashing in his eyes.

Ji Wan drove all the way home, his fingers gripping the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

The anger in my heart could not be calmed for a long time.

Chi Lin's eyes, his condescending attitude, and the aura he exuded when he approached her all made her feel extremely disgusted.

How dare he? How dare he look at her like that after all these years?

Ji Wan slammed the steering wheel and took a deep breath to calm himself down.

We can't be influenced by him and we can't let him succeed.

After returning home, Ji Wan went straight into the bathroom and turned on the shower.

The warm water washed over her body, as if to take away the unpleasantness of the night.

Drops of water slid down her cheeks, and it was hard to tell whether they were water or tears.

Ji Wan closed his eyes and let the water splash on his face, trying to wash away the scent left by Chi Lin.

That man, who used to be her husband, has now become her biggest enemy.

This war has just begun.

Chi Lin sat in his luxurious office, his fingers tapping lightly on the desk, his eyes shifting. The slap mark on his cheek had faded, but the anger within him only grew stronger.

"Have you found out?" he asked in a low voice.

The assistant standing nearby quickly replied, "I found out. Mr. Ji goes to the gym every Wednesday night and then goes to a nearby cafe to read."

Chi Lin nodded, a sharp glint in his eyes. After their encounter at the bar that night, he found himself increasingly drawn to Ji Wan. The once docile woman had become tough and sharp, even daring to slap him, which only fueled his desire to conquer her.

"Make arrangements. I want to run into her next Wednesday."

The assistant looked embarrassed: "Boss Chi, are you sure? Boss Ji just caught us off guard."

Chi Lin glanced at him coldly: "Are you questioning my decision?"

The assistant immediately lowered his head: "I dare not, I will arrange it right away."

The sun was shining brightly outside the window. Chi Lin turned his chair and looked out at the panoramic view of the city. A sneer appeared on his lips, and he had already made up his mind.

Ji Wan, you can't escape from my palm.

This time, I will definitely take you down again.

In the backyard of the Chi family's old house, Chi Wenyan, wearing gardener's work clothes, was trimming flowers and plants.

Ever since he got the bank card, he has been looking for the right time to investigate the cause of his parents' death. During the day, he pretends to work diligently, and at night he searches for clues everywhere in the old house.

As night falls, the garden becomes serene. Moonlight, like water, casts a shadow over the ancient buildings and lush flowers and trees, creating a dreamlike scene.

Chi Wenyan lay on his simple bed in the dormitory, beads of sweat oozing from his forehead, his brow furrowed. He had that dream again—his parents' faces went from blurry to clear, and they kept calling his name.

In his dream, he saw a tall locust tree, with himself and his parents standing beneath it. He was young, chasing butterflies under the tree, while his father stood nearby, watching with a smile, and his mother sat on a stone bench beneath the tree, humming a ballad.

"Wen Yan, don't run too far." The mother's gentle voice was like a breeze blowing past her ears.

Chi Wenyan suddenly woke up from his dream, cold sweat soaking the back of his clothes.

Sophora japonica, what is that place? Why is this image so clear?

He sat up and rubbed his temples.

This is no ordinary dream, this is a memory.

When he was a child, he often played with his parents in a yard of the Chi family where there was a tall locust tree.

Chi Wenyan put on his clothes and tiptoed out of the dormitory. The moonlight was like silver, guiding him in the right direction.

The old house was large, with multiple courtyards. Relying on a vague memory, he headed towards the eastern side yard. It was rarely visited, and was said to be the place where the old man's ancestors worshipped, usually locked.

Light and shadow mingled in the corridor, and his footsteps were swallowed up by the night. When he reached the gate of the side courtyard, a rusty iron lock hung on the door.

Chi Wenyan took out a piece of wire from his pocket and pried open the lock in a few strokes.

When I opened the door, a gust of stale air hit me in the face.

The yard was overgrown with weeds and had obviously not been taken care of for a long time.

Under the moonlight, a tall locust tree stands in the center of the yard, with a thick trunk and lush branches and leaves.

Chi Wenyan walked under the tree, a familiar feeling coming over him. He closed his eyes, and the smiling faces of his parents emerged in his mind.

"It's right here."

He carefully looked at the environment around the locust tree. Under the locust tree was an inconspicuous stone slab covered with a thin layer of soil.

Chi Wenyan squatted down and used his hands to push away the soil and weeds on the surface. In the moonlight, he noticed extremely fine lines carved into the stone slab. Upon closer inspection, he saw his father's name—Chi Mingyuan.

His heart suddenly tightened, and Chi Wenyan began to dig the soil under the stone slab with force.

The soil was soft, as if it had been frequently turned over. After digging about a foot deep, his hand touched a hard object.

After clearing away the surrounding dirt, a gray-brown pottery jar was revealed, and Chi Wenyan carefully took it out.

"Father."

His hands began to tremble, but he continued digging and found a second pottery jar.

"Mother."

Under the moonlight, Chi Wenyan knelt before the two urns of ashes, tears streaming silently. Was this the truth he had been searching for? Was his parents buried not in the cemetery, but deep within this remote courtyard?

"Who buried your ashes here?" he muttered to himself, his voice full of pain and anger.

Suddenly, there was a slight sound of footsteps behind him. Chi Wenyan instantly became alert, but did not turn around, but continued to pretend to dig.

"What are you doing?" A deep male voice came, with a hint of vigilance and anger.

Chi Wenyan slowly turned around and saw a man about sixty years old standing in the moonlight with a gloomy face.

Uncle Chi, the second master of the Chi family.

Uncle Chi saw someone digging in the side yard and immediately became alert: "Which yard's servant are you from? Who allowed you to come here?"

He walked out as he spoke, "I'm going to get someone to arrest you!"

Chi Wenyan sneered, stood up and blocked his way: "Second uncle, long time no see."

Under the moonlight, Chi Wenyan raised his head and looked directly into Uncle Chi's eyes.

Second Uncle Chi was stunned, his eyes widening as if he had seen a ghost: "You, you can't be! Wen Yan? Chi Wenyan? How could you still be alive?"
