Chapter 316 Threat

Chapter 316 Threat

Ji Wan interrupted him, "Manager Li, I don't care about your private life. But I think your wife might be very interested."

As she spoke, she shook her phone, "Especially the recording of your intimate conversation with Miss Zhang."

Li Xiang's face turned pale. "Miss Ji, what...what do you want?"

"It's very simple." Ji Wan put away his smile, his eyes sharp, "I need all the financial statements of the Chi Group for the past three years. The more detailed the better."

Li Xiang's eyes widened in horror. "This...this is impossible. President Chi will kill me."

"Then it depends on how you choose to die." Ji Wan sneered, "Killed by Chi Lin or by your wife."

Li Xiang's forehead was covered with sweat, and he finally nodded in defeat. "I...I will provide it. Give me three days."

"Tomorrow." Ji Wan refused to discuss the matter. "I want complete information. If I discover any falsification, I will immediately send the recording to your wife."

Seeing Li Xiang nodding in fear, Ji Wan left the parking lot with satisfaction.

The next afternoon, an encrypted USB drive appeared in Ji Wan's mailbox. She immediately took it out, returned to her room, locked the door, and began to carefully examine the contents.

Ji Wan spent the entire afternoon immersed in the densely packed numbers. In the evening, when she finished checking the last report, her face turned solemn.

"Something's wrong..." she muttered to herself.

According to financial statements, Chi Group's revenue is far below the industry standard, almost half of that of companies of similar size.

But strangely, the group is able to maintain a large number of high-cost projects and investments.

"It's either tax evasion or there's hidden capital flows." Ji Wan wrote down his speculation in his notebook.

She recalled Chi Lin's sudden investment of all his funds in the Qihai project, and thought of the inexplicable close relationship between him and Ning Weiwei, and her doubts deepened.

"I need more evidence." Ji Wan decided to continue investigating.

Just as she was about to organize and archive the information, the door was suddenly pushed open.

Chi Lin stood at the door with a gloomy face and sparks of anger in his eyes.

"Ji Wan, you'd better explain why you hired a private detective to follow Ning Weiwei and me." His voice was low and dangerous. He closed the door and walked towards Ji Wan.

Ji Wan was shocked, but remained calm and quickly closed the financial documents on the table. "What detective? I don't know what you are talking about."

Chi Lin sneered, took out his cell phone and played a recording.

In the recording, Ji Wan clearly instructed the private detective to track Chi Lin and Ning Weiwei's every move, and also asked to take photos of them.

"Are you still trying to quibble?" Chi Lin threw his phone on the table, his eyes filled with even more anger.

Ji Wan's brain was working rapidly, and she realized that the most dangerous thing now was that she would be discovered investigating financial issues.

She had to divert Chi Lin's attention.

"I..." Ji Wan suddenly lowered his head, his voice choked, "I just want to know what your relationship with her is."

Chi Lin frowned, obviously not expecting her to respond like this, "What do you mean?"

Ji Wan raised her head, her eyes slightly red. "Every time you were with her, you were so close and gentle. You never treated me like that." Her voice began to tremble. "I just want to know... if you love her."

Chi Lin's expression wavered for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure. "Is this the reason you sent someone to follow me?"

Ji Wan suddenly stood up from the chair, then slumped to the ground, covering his face with his hands, his shoulders trembling slightly. "You will never understand...how insecure I am. You said you wanted me to give you six months, but you've been inseparable from her all day long."

She raised her tearful face, "I know I said we were over, but...but I can't help but care."

Chi Lin looked at Ji Wan squatting on the ground. The anger in his eyes gradually subsided, replaced by a hint of complicated emotions. He approached Ji Wan, hesitated for a moment, and squatted down.

"Are you jealous?" His voice softened.

Ji Wan bit her lip, remaining silent, tears streaming down her cheeks. She sneered in her heart, but appeared vulnerable on the surface.

"Ning Weiwei and I are just friends. She encountered difficulties and I am helping her." Chi Lin explained, reaching out to wipe away Ji Wan's tears.

Ji Wan turned her head slightly to avoid his hand, "I don't believe it. You are a hundred times gentler to her than to me. That day in the hospital, the way you looked at her..."

She sobbed hard, her voice choking again. "I've never seen that kind of concern in your eyes."

Chi Lin sighed, "Wanwan, you misunderstood. Weiwei is very fragile now and she needs care and protection. But this doesn't mean that my feelings for you have changed."

Ji Wan looked up at him, tears glistening in her eyes, "Really?"

Chi Lin nodded and reached out to pull her up, "Really."

Ji Wan stood up and leaned into his arms, sneering in his heart.

She looked up at the desk to make sure the financial documents were closed and not exposed.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have sent anyone to follow you." She said softly, "I'm just...afraid of losing you."

Chi Lin hugged her waist and said in a low voice, "No, I promise you."

Ji Wan leaned against his chest, closed her eyes, and raised the corners of her mouth slightly. She had successfully diverted Chi Lin's attention and preserved her secret investigation. But at the same time, she was also more certain of one thing.

There is indeed a secret between Chi Lin and Ning Weiwei, and it is very likely related to those abnormal financial data.

"Let's go back to the room and rest. You look tired." Chi Lin let go of her and said softly.

Ji Wan nodded and followed Chi Lin out of the study, leaving those temporarily covered up secrets waiting to be revealed in the darkness.

After closing the door, Ji Wan sat on the edge of the bed. The tears on her face hadn't dried yet, but her eyes had regained clarity and determination. She took out her phone, deleted all suspicious call records, and sent an encrypted text message.

"Continue investigating Ning Weiwei, focusing on any connection she may have with the Qihai Group."

Chi Lin looked at Ji Wan with tears in her eyes, and the anger in his eyes instantly disappeared, replaced by a trace of heartache.

He reached out and gently stroked Ji Wan's cheek, wiping away her tears.

"I'm sorry, Wanwan, I shouldn't have gotten mad at you." Chi Lin's voice was exceptionally gentle. "I just didn't expect you to care so much about my relationship with Ning Weiwei."

Ji Wan lowered her head, her shoulders trembling slightly, but her heart was terrifyingly calm. She needed Chi Lin to believe in her vulnerability and believe that she still loved him, so that she could continue her investigation.

"I know I said I wouldn't give you another chance, but..." Ji Wan's voice choked, "I can't control my feelings. Seeing you treat her so well, I just..."

She pretended to be really sad.
