Chapter 397 Meeting
The air in the cafe was almost stagnant.
Chi Wenyan put down his phone, and his deep eyes fell on Xiao Li again.
Xiao Li's heart was beating like a drum. She thought that with this recording, she could at least gain some room for negotiation, such as a stable job and a guarantee to stay away from Chi Lin's clutches.
After all, the recording mentioned "cheating on Wen Yan", and the real person in charge of the Chi family couldn't possibly not care.
She mustered up her courage and whispered, "Boss Chi, I know a lot more. About Boss Chi's accounts over the years, and... and how he used Miss Ji..."
She tried to increase her chips and mentioned Ji Wan as her last bet.
However, Chi Wenyan only raised his chin slightly, his eyes were calm but filled with a coldness that could see through everything.
"explain."
Just one word, but it carried a tremendous force and instantly shattered the weak calculation in Xiao Li's mind.
Only then did he realize that he had underestimated the man in front of him.
He didn't need any extra "chips" at all. His aura and his eyes had already completely taken control of the situation.
Fear gripped him again. How could she bargain?
"Yes, yes." Xiao Li no longer dared to hold back and spoke out his thoughts like pouring beans out of a bamboo tube.
She told him everything she had observed and heard about how Chi Lin transferred assets, how he made secret plans, how he used Lu Gui to commit fraud, and even some words she had accidentally seen involving Ji Wan.
The more he spoke, the trembling his voice became and the paler his face became, as if he wanted to pour out all the fear that had been pent up in his heart.
Chi Wenyan listened quietly, his fingers unconsciously stroking the wall of the coffee cup, and the coldness in his eyes accumulated layer by layer, so thick that it could not be dissolved.
Until Xiao Li could no longer utter a word, only low sobs remained.
Chi Wenyan then withdrew his gaze and looked at the assistant standing beside him.
The assistant immediately understood, took out a thick envelope from his bag, put it on the table, and pushed it in front of Xiao Li.
"The money in here is enough for you to leave here and start over." Chi Wenyan's voice was calm. "Take it and go."
Xiao Li was stunned. He looked at the envelope, then at Chi Wenyan, and the hope in his eyes was completely extinguished.
He understood that Chi Wenyan accepted the evidence but had no intention of keeping him.
Well, why would he use someone like him who is willing to betray his employer to protect himself?
A hint of bitterness welled up in my heart, but more of it was the relief of surviving the disaster.
He picked up the envelope with trembling hands, and the weight gave him a false sense of security.
"Thank you, Mr. Chi... Thank you, Mr. Chi..." He choked and crawled out of the cafe, as if there was an evil ghost chasing him.
Watching her disappearing figure, the assistant whispered, "Master, this person..."
"Just a poor guy who was too clever for his own good." Chi Wenyan picked up the coffee cup and took a sip. The already cold liquid slid into his throat, bringing a hint of coolness and clarity.
"She provided something useful, so she should be compensated. But using her? No need."
He turned his gaze to the window, his eyes dark. "The evidence is solid. It's time to close the net."
He took out his cell phone and dialed a number.
"It's me."
Chi Lin's slightly impatient voice came from the other end of the phone: "Wen Yan? What's the matter?"
"I want to see you," Chi Wenyan's voice was unrecognizable, "Regarding the matter of Divine Doctor Lu, I want to talk to you and Divine Doctor Lu himself face to face. There are some misunderstandings that are better resolved."
Chi Lin was silent for a few seconds, as if trying to guess his intentions.
Lu Gui's voice could be heard faintly from the side: "Talk? What does he want to talk about? Has he figured it out and wants to give us money?"
Chi Lin's voice held a hint of suppressed pride. "Oh? You've figured it out? That's good. It's better to resolve a feud than to create one. You decide the time and place."
To him, it seemed that Chi Wenyan had undoubtedly suffered a loss in the matter of Lu Gui, and since he could not find any evidence, he could only reluctantly agree to reconcile, and maybe he could even take the opportunity to make another fortune.
"Tomorrow night at 7 o'clock, in the private room on the top floor of Jiangpan Renjia." Chi Wenyan reported the time and place.
"Okay, it's a deal." Chi Lin agreed readily, his tone full of confidence that he would win again.
After hanging up the phone, Chi Wenyan's lips curled up in an extremely cold arc.
The fish has taken the bait.
He looked at his assistant and said, "Inform them. Tomorrow night, all matters must be resolved at once."
"Yes, young master." The assistant bowed and accepted the order, with a hint of excitement in his eyes.
This belated reckoning is finally about to begin.
Riverside House, top-floor box.
The lights came on and the night enveloped the entire city, as if drawing up the dark curtain for the upcoming show.
At exactly seven o'clock, Chi Wenyan stepped into the box on time.
He looked calm, his gaze was as bottomless as a cold pond, and he exuded a heart-pounding sense of oppression.
The assistant followed closely behind, carrying a black briefcase and looking solemn.
In the box, Chi Lin had been waiting for a long time.
Beside him, Doctor Lu smiled flatteringly, and the two of them were clinking glasses proudly. The air was filled with the pungent smell of inferior liquor and the pungent smell of cheap cigars.
Seeing Chi Wenyan coming in, Chi Lin put down his wine glass and put on a fake smile on his face, as if everything was under control.
"You're here, come and sit down." Chi Lin greeted him with a subtle hint of contempt and scrutiny in his eyes. "Come, let me introduce you. This is the Divine Doctor Lu I mentioned to you, Mr. Lu."
Doctor Lu immediately put on an immortal look and bowed to Chi Wenyan, but his eyes were darting around him with a mercenary shrewdness.
Chi Wenyan ignored Doctor Lu, walked straight to the table, pulled out a chair and sat down.
He fixed his gaze on Chi Lin's face, and a cold arc appeared at the corner of his mouth. There was no warmth in that smile, only a chilling sharpness.
"No need for pleasantries." Chi Wenyan's voice was low and calm, yet it carried an unquestionable power. "I invited you here today because there are some things that need to be explained in person."
The smile on Chi Lin's face froze for a moment, then returned to normal. He smiled casually, "Oh? What's going on? Why are you so serious? Have you really figured it out and want to thank Divine Doctor Lu?"
Doctor Lu also laughed, rubbed his hands, and stared at Chi Wenyan greedily, as if he was looking at a piece of fat meat.
"Thank you?" Chi Wenyan sneered, his eyes suddenly sharp. "What I want to thank you for today is your stupidity and greed."
As he spoke, Chi Wenyan signaled to his assistant.
The assistant understood, opened his briefcase, pulled out a thick stack of documents, and slammed it down on the table. With a loud bang, the wine glasses on the table jumped.
