Chapter 401 Taking Good Care of People
This unique possessiveness and sense of security made her heart, which was anxious due to days of fright and pain, feel like it had found the most solid harbor, soothing and warm.
"Well, I'll listen to you." She nodded obediently, a faint smile spreading in her eyes with a hint of cunning, "As long as the male special assistant is capable, it's fine."
Looking at her curved eyebrows and her lively look again, Chi Wenyan's fatigue and anxiety over the past few days seemed to be dispelled by this smile.
He leaned over and placed a precious kiss on her smooth forehead.
"Get well soon." He murmured softly, his tone more gentle than ever before.
Ji Wan responded obediently, closing her eyes peacefully, feeling the warmth from his palm. With him by her side, no matter how big the storm, she felt at ease.
A month later, bright sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the penthouse, casting a shadow on the soft carpet and illuminating Ji Wan's rosy face. She wore a comfortable maternity dress, her belly already slightly bulging, revealing the gentle curves of a pregnant woman. Doctors confirmed that she had recovered remarkably well, and her baby was developing healthily and steadily.
During this month, Chi Wenyan relaxed visibly.
The new male special assistant is indeed very capable and has taken over most of the tedious tasks, allowing Chi Wenyan to spend more time with Ji Wan. The operation of the Chi Group is back on track, and all the troubles seem to have subsided temporarily. Only Chi Lin, the one who escaped the net, is still in the dark, but the dragnet laid by Chi Wenyan is gradually tightening.
At this moment, Chi Wenyan was hugging Ji Wan from behind, his chin resting lightly on her neck, his warm breath brushing against her ears.
"What are you looking at?"
His deep voice carried the laziness of a satisfied soul.
Ji Wan's fingers slid across the tablet, and the screen showed a variety of exquisite wedding dress styles.
"Look at our wedding," she tilted her head, her lips curved, her eyes sparkling with happiness, "the venue, the guest list, the wedding dress, I have so much to do."
"Just leave these to the planning team. You just need to be the most beautiful bride." Chi Wenyan tightened his arms and held her tighter in his arms. He rubbed her hair with his nose and took a deep breath. It was all her reassuring scent.
"How can that be? This is our wedding, so of course it would be meaningful if we were to participate together."
Ji Wan turned around, faced him, and cupped his handsome cheeks with both hands.
There was no longer the frightening dark blue under his eyes, and the fatigue between his brows was also swept away. He regained the appearance of the dignified, calm, and in-control CEO of the Chi Group. However, when he looked at her, the tenderness in his eyes was so deep that it could not be melted away.
"Okay, okay, I'll do as you say." Chi Wenyan smiled dotingly and pecked her lips. "Then where would you like to hold your wedding, my bride? An island? An ancient castle? Or our own manor?"
Ji Wan tilted his head and thought for a moment, a sly look flashing across his eyes. "How about we hold it in the banquet hall where we first officially met? That place means a lot to me."
That was the starting point of the turning point in her fate and the beginning of her entanglement with him.
Chi Wenyan was slightly startled, and then a deeper warmth and emotion welled up in his eyes.
He understood her thoughts. That place witnessed their not-so-pleasant first encounter, but now, she chose to cover those unpleasant memories with the greatest happiness and give it a new meaning.
"Okay, let's set it there."
He agreed without hesitation, his voice slightly hoarse.
The two snuggled together and discussed other details.
The sunlight elongated their figures, overlapping them on the floor to create intimate outlines.
The air was filled with a warm and sweet atmosphere, and the haze of the past few days had completely dissipated, leaving only anticipation for the future.
"By the way, Wen Yan," Ji Wan suddenly raised his head, "Mid-Autumn Festival is next week. Should we go back to the old house and spend it with Grandpa?"
Although Chi Lin's incident cast a shadow on the Chi family, Old Man Chi is innocent and is an elder who truly loves her.
Chi Wenyan pondered for a moment. For Ji Wan's safety, he had almost isolated her from unnecessary contact with the outside world during this period.
But seeing the expectant light in her eyes, he finally nodded: "Okay, I'll make arrangements and ensure safety."
He paused and added, "It's time to officially announce our wedding date to Grandpa."
Ji Wan opened her eyes wide in surprise: "The wedding date has been set?"
"Well," Chi Wenyan picked up a velvet box from under the coffee table and opened it. Inside was a simple but dazzling diamond ring. Next to it was a gold-plated card with a date clearly printed on it.
Two months later, an auspicious day for marriage appeared.
"I've already picked a date. It's in late autumn, and the weather is perfect."
He took her hand and carefully put the ring on her ring finger, making sure it was the right size.
The cool touch and the dazzling light of the diamond instantly occupied all of Ji Wan's senses.
"Ji Wan, marry me." This time, it was no longer an agreement, and there were no longer any additional conditions. It was just his most sincere request and promise.
Ji Wan's eyes instantly became moist. She clasped her fingers tightly with his and nodded heavily: "I do."
The sunlight outside the window grew brighter, illuminating the room with a warm golden glow. Happiness, like a vine, silently crept into every corner of their hearts, flourishing and vibrant. They had missed so much time, but from now on, every day would be filled with love and anticipation. The sound of wedding bells seemed to be faintly audible.
Late at night, the bedroom was quiet, with only the occasional sound of wind passing by the window.
Ji Wan suddenly sat up from the bed, with fine beads of cold sweat oozing from his forehead, his chest heaving violently, and he was breathing rapidly.
In the darkness, her eyes were wide open, with lingering fear.
"What's wrong?" Chi Wenyan woke up almost the moment she stood up. He stretched out his long arms and pulled her into his arms. His warm palms pressed against her cold back, soothing her calmly. "Did you have a nightmare?"
Ji Wan's body was still trembling slightly. She held Chi Wenyan's arm tightly, as if she had grabbed a life-saving straw, and cried in a voice: "Wenyan, I dreamed of him. I dreamed that Chi Lin came back."
In the dream, Chi Lin's face was sinister and distorted, and he stared at her with resentment, saying over and over again that he would make her pay the price, destroy everything she had, and ruin their wedding.
That cold laugh and that malicious look were so real that it made her feel cold all over.
Chi Wenyan's heart sank suddenly. He hugged the person in his arms tightly, resting his chin on the top of her soft head. His voice was low and firm: "Don't be afraid, it's just a dream. He can't come back, he really can't come back. Don't be afraid."
