Chapter 421 Transformation
Ji Wan took the document and quickly browsed through it. The content was indeed as Zhao Xiyue said. All the evidence chains pointing to Chi Wenyan were shattered, and the case was developing in a direction favorable to him.
"Thank you for your hard work." Ji Wan put down the documents and looked at Zhao Xiyue.
Zhao Xiyue shook her head, picked up the teacup and took a sip: "This is part of the deal."
She paused, then looked up at Ji Wan with a probing look in her eyes, "Ji Wan, don't you hate me?"
Ji Wan raised her eyebrows: "What do I hate you for? I hate that you're pregnant with someone else's child, but you want to keep it under my husband's name?"
Zhao Xiyue was choked by her straightforward words and smiled bitterly, "Yes."
"It's not hatred," Ji Wan said calmly, "I only care about the results I want. You provide what I need, and I pay what you need, that's all."
She paused and added, "As for your past with your lover, that is your private matter and has nothing to do with me."
Zhao Xiyue looked at Ji Wan's cold profile and suddenly felt that this woman was more insightful and powerful than she had imagined.
She had thought Ji Wan would be angry, unwilling, and would try to make things difficult for her in various ways, but she didn't. She calmly accepted the reality and made the most practical request.
"You and your lover." Ji Wan suddenly spoke, breaking the silence, "Are you in a good relationship?"
Zhao Xiyue was stunned for a moment, then a gentle light flashed in her eyes, the kind of look she only gets when she mentions her beloved, a light that even the sadness couldn't conceal. "Yes," she nodded gently, her voice soft, "He's a very gentle and talented person. He just hasn't had much luck."
Ji Wan watched the flash of pain and longing in her eyes, and his heart moved slightly. This seemingly strong Miss Zhao was, deep down, just a pitiful woman who had lost her lover.
"Sorry." Ji Wan whispered.
Zhao Xiyue shook her head and forced a smile: "It's all in the past." She took a deep breath and changed the subject, "Regarding the child, I want to hear your thoughts on the specific arrangements after the birth."
The two began to discuss details such as the child's future upbringing, education, and how to explain it to the outside world.
Surprisingly, their views on many issues coincide with each other.
Zhao Xiyue was thoughtful and proposed solutions that tried to avoid causing trouble for Ji Wan and Chi Wenyan.
Ji Wan was straightforward and clear in expressing her bottom line and the principles that could not be compromised.
Two equally smart and decisive women, because of an unborn child and an unavoidable deal, sat together and calmly planned their future.
During the conversation, Ji Wan discovered that Zhao Xiyue was not as arrogant and domineering as the rumors said. She was independent-minded, responsible, logical, and organized.
Zhao Xiyue also discovered that beneath Ji Wan's indifference, there was a rationality that could see through the world and a principle that was not easily revealed.
Unconsciously, the two people who originally had only a business relationship actually developed a sense of mutual appreciation.
"From now on, the child will call you mom," Zhao Xiyue suddenly said softly, looking at Ji Wan, "You can probably only call me aunt." There was a hint of melancholy in her tone.
Ji Wan paused holding the teacup, looked up at her, and said nothing.
The sunlight streamed in through the window lattice and fell between the two of them. The air was filled with the faint fragrance of tea and a hint of indescribable complex emotions.
This transaction, which started with a crisis, seems to be moving in an unexpected direction.
Soon, Chi Wenyan came out and was released from house arrest.
Three days later, in the office of the president of Chi Group.
Chi Wenyan, dressed in a neatly ironed black suit, wore a look of fatigue from not having had a good rest for days, but his eyes remained sharp as he quickly reviewed a mountain of documents. His assistant stood nearby, respectfully reporting on the progress of various matters.
"President, the chain of evidence provided by Miss Zhao is crucial. Our people have already..."
Chi Wenyan raised his hand to interrupt, his voice steady: "I understand all this. Keep a close eye on the follow-up finishing work, and make sure it's clean and neat."
"Yes." The assistant responded.
After finishing the most urgent documents, Chi Wenyan leaned back in his chair and rubbed his eyebrows.
Although the company was able to overcome this crisis without any major problems, the problems exposed within the company and the subsequent market appeasement required him to spend a lot of energy.
He picked up his phone and called Ji Wan.
"It's me."
"Well, are you done?" Ji Wan's voice was calm as always without much emotion.
"It's over for now. We still have a lot of things to do at the company." Chi Wenyan paused, his tone carrying a hint of unquestionable command, "Go to Zhao Xiyue's place for me."
He pulled a black card from his wallet and placed it on the table. He then said to the woman on the other end of the phone, "I'll give you a card. When the time comes, you can go shopping with her, have a meal, and buy some things. She helped me this time, so you have to repay her for it."
Ji Wan was silent for a few seconds on the other end.
"I see." Her answer was still concise.
After hanging up the phone, Chi Wenyan looked at the black card on the table with a complicated expression.
He was aware of the delicate relationship between Ji Wan and Zhao Xiyue, and he also understood that asking Ji Wan to do this would be somewhat difficult for her.
But right now, he was too busy to do anything else, and this favor had to be repaid in a decent manner as soon as possible.
He subconsciously felt that Ji Wan could handle it.
In the luxurious shopping mall, the dazzling windows reflect bright light.
Ji Wan and Zhao Xiyue walked side by side. Both of them were wearing comfortable yet stylish maternity clothes. Their slightly bulging bellies attracted a lot of attention.
One is cool and elegant, the other is bright and beautiful. Standing together, they form a strange and harmonious landscape.
"The baby cribs in this store are well designed and made of environmentally friendly materials." Zhao Xiyue pointed to a high-end mother and baby store and spoke first.
Ji Wan looked sideways and nodded: "The style is simple, and safety comes first."
The two walked into the store and were greeted warmly by the shopping guide.
"What would you two expectant mothers like to see? We've just received the latest baby products, from clothing to bedding."
Zhao Xiyue was choosing with great interest. She picked up a soft baby onesie and gestured to Ji Wan, "What do you think of this one? It's small and very cute."
Ji Wan's gaze fell on Zhao Xiyue's hands, which were holding the clothes. Her hands were well-maintained, yet at this moment, they held a cautious tenderness. She nodded slightly. "The color is very soft."
"Then this one." Zhao Xiyue handed it directly to the salesperson, "And the cradle from earlier, wrap it up too."
Ji Wan didn't stop them, but just watched quietly. The credit limit on the card Chi Wenyan gave them was astonishing, enough for them to empty the entire maternity and baby area.
"Aren't you going to choose a few pieces?" Zhao Xiyue turned and looked at Ji Wan.
