Chapter 465 In the Hospital

Chapter 465 In the Hospital

She closed her eyes tightly, trying to banish the face she hated from her mind.

Now is not the time to think about these things.

A brief silence filled the ward. The only sounds in the air were the monotonous ticking of the instruments and the two people's shallow breathing.

Ji Wan calmed herself down. The absurdity of last night and the embarrassment of the moment made her cheeks heat up uncontrollably again.

She took a deep breath and tried to make her voice sound calmer. "Mr. Fu, thank you so much for this. I will compensate you for the medical expenses and the time you wasted in taking me to the hospital."

Fu Chen's gaze was still on her, his deep eyes were like an ancient well without ripples, making it impossible to see through his emotions.

"I've already paid for the medical expenses. You're welcome, Miss Ji." His voice was still that unhurried and steady. "As for time, it can't be said to be a delay."

"No, Mr. Fu, this is a must." Ji Wan insisted, his tone carrying a hint of earnestness that could not be refused.

"You saved me, and I can't repay you for that kindness. I can't afford to burden you with any more expenses. Please settle all the charges, including any additional expenses you may have incurred."

She paused, as if making up her mind, and fumbled for her phone on the bedside table. The screen was cracked, but it still managed to light up.

"I'll give you the assistant's contact information. You can send the bill to him and he will handle it immediately." Ji Wan's voice lowered. The mention of the assistant made her already pale face even gloomier.

She didn't want her family to know about her dire situation, but now she was penniless and her cell phone was in such a terrible state, so she could only trouble her assistant first.

Fu Chen looked at her slightly embarrassed expression and the hand holding the broken phone with slightly white fingertips, and a barely perceptible light flashed in his dark eyes.

He didn't ask any further questions, but said calmly, "Okay. However, I think it would be more convenient for us to exchange contact information first."

Ji Wan was stunned for a moment, then understood. Indeed, contacting her directly would make subsequent communication smoother.

She pursed her lips a little embarrassedly: "My phone may not be very convenient."

Fu Chen pulled his phone from his pocket. The screen was as shiny as new, a stark contrast to Ji Wan's weathered phone. His voice was clear and sharp: "Give me your number, I'll add you."

Ji Wan followed his instructions and reported a string of numbers.

Fu Chen's slender fingers tapped the screen a few times, and soon, Ji Wan's broken phone vibrated with difficulty. A friend request popped up on the screen. The profile picture was a pure dark blue, and the nickname was just the simple letter "F".

She clicked through.

"Okay." Fu Chen put away his phone quickly and decisively.

Ji Wan looked at the unfamiliar avatar on the screen, feeling mixed emotions. She raised her head and looked at Fu Chen again, with a sincere and deep gratitude in her eyes: "Mr. Fu, no matter what, I really thank you very much. If it weren't for you, I..."

She couldn't bear to think of the consequences.

"It's just a small favor. Miss Ji, you don't have to worry about it all the time." Fu Chen's tone was still calm, as if he had just done something insignificant.

Ji Wan nodded gently, feeling the fatigue coming over her. She really needed a good rest. She lowered her eyelids slightly.

Her voice was barely perceptible with a hint of weakness. "Mr. Fu, you must be very tired, so I won't disturb your rest. I'll deal with the bill as soon as possible."

This was a subtle way of saying goodbye. She just wanted to be alone and lick her wounds.

Fu Chen looked at her deeply, and that look seemed to see through all her fragility and pretense at the moment.

He didn't say much, just nodded slightly: "Okay, you rest in peace."

The man turned around, took a long walk, and his neatly ironed shirt outlined his tall and straight back.

The door of the ward was gently closed, isolating everything from the outside world.

Fu Chen stood in the corridor outside the ward. The morning light shone on him through the window, casting a faint halo around him.

He tilted his head slightly and glanced at the tightly closed ward door. A meaningful arc appeared at the corner of his lips, and an unfathomable light flashed in his deep eyes.

He took out his cell phone, tapped the screen with his fingertips, and changed the note of the newly added contact to "Ji Wan".

The night is as dark as ink, so thick that it cannot be dissolved.

The lights in Chi Wenyan's villa's study were bright, but they couldn't dispel the chill surrounding the man.

He didn't sleep all night.

The expensive custom-made trousers were slightly wrinkled, the collar of the shirt was slightly open, revealing the delicate collarbone, and the usually meticulous short hair was a little messy.

The man stood in front of the huge floor-to-ceiling window, holding a dying cigarette between his fingers. The smoke blurred his handsome but cold face.

His eyes were bloodshot, his jaw was clenched, and a suffocating low pressure emanated from his body.

"No news yet?" He didn't even turn his head, his voice was hoarse and filled with the gloom of impending storm.

The assistant assistant stood a few steps behind him, cold sweat dripping down his forehead, not daring to breathe. He had followed Chi Wenyan for many years and knew that this boss, who never showed his emotions, was on the verge of a rage.

"Mr. Chi, we've dispatched all the available personnel to search the entire city, but we still don't have the exact whereabouts of Miss Ji." The assistant's voice was hoarse, and his throat tightened with every word he uttered.

Chi Wenyan turned around abruptly, his scarlet eyes like ice blades from the depths of a cold pond, piercing straight at the assistant: "Waste! A bunch of waste! After all this time, you can't even find one person?!"

He crushed the cigarette butt into the crystal ashtray, making a harsh friction sound.

The assistant's heart trembled, he lowered his head, and said in a lower voice: "Boss Chi, calm down. We are stepping up our inspection of all hotels and inns. No possible place will be left out!"

"Hurry up, otherwise, you know the consequences." Chi Wenyan approached step by step, and the strong sense of oppression made the assistant almost unable to stand steadily.

"Yes, Mr. Chi." The assistant did not dare to hesitate, and when speaking, he did not dare to look directly into Chi Wenyan's eyes that could see through people's hearts.

"Hurry up." Chi Wenyan shouted, his patience exhausted.

At this moment, the assistant's cell phone rang rapidly, which seemed particularly abrupt in this silent and depressing atmosphere.

He felt as if he had been pardoned. He hurriedly took out his cell phone and his eyes suddenly lit up when he saw the caller ID.

"Mr. Chi, Mr. Chi, there's news, there's news!" The assistant's voice was trembling with disbelief and surprise.

The low pressure around Chi Wenyan dissipated a little in an instant, but the anxiety between his brows was still strong: "Speak!"

"It's the City Central Hospital! Our people found Miss Ji's name in the emergency records of the City Central Hospital. She was sent to the emergency room last night!" The assistant reported very quickly, fearing that he would be a second late.
