Chapter 478 Eye to Eye

Chapter 478 Eye to Eye

Their eyes met.

The air froze instantly.

Chi Wenyan's movements froze there, with tenderness still in his eyes and a hint of panic from being caught.

After the initial confusion, Ji Wan's eyes quickly became clear, and then became bone-chillingly cold.

"Chi Wenyan." She practically gritted her teeth as she spat out the name, her voice filled with offended anger and a thick layer of disgust. She flinched back as if she had been electrocuted.

, the movement was so big that the coat he was covering her with fell to the ground.

"What are you doing?" Ji Wan's voice was sharp and cold, like an ice-hardened knife, stabbing into Chi Wenyan's heart.

The surprise and tenderness that had just risen in his eyes were instantly shattered by this cold question, replaced by a trace of hurt and helplessness: "I... I saw you fell asleep, and I was worried that you were cold..."

"Heh," Ji Wan sneered shortly and mockingly, "Boss Chi is truly considerate. However, this consideration should be reserved for a beauty like Su Jiujiu. I can't afford it."

She stood up with the help of the wall, rubbed her numb legs, and looked down at him with a distant and indifferent look, as if she was looking at an insignificant stranger.

Chi Wenyan's heart sank a little bit, and his throat tightened: "Wanwan, it's not what you think. Su Jiujiu and I..."

"That's enough." Ji Wan interrupted him harshly, his eyes filled with impatience and determination. "Chi Wenyan, do you think that your pitiful appearance right now can make me forget the disgusting scene of you and Su Jiujiu making love in bed? Do you think that it can make me forget all the humiliation and hurt you have brought me?"

Every word she said was like a heavy hammer, hitting his heart hard.

"I'm telling you, it's impossible." Ji Wan's tone was firm. "I stayed here only because you're still alive. I don't want to be labeled as someone who didn't help you when you were dying."

After she finished speaking, she bent down to pick up her bag, and without looking at him again, she turned and walked towards the door.

"Wanwan." Chi Wenyan wanted to get up eagerly, but he pulled the needle on the back of his hand and felt a sharp pain.

Ji Wan paused for a moment, but didn't look back. He just said coldly, "Chi Wenyan, don't forget the agreement between us. When you feel better, we will go through the divorce procedures. I, Ji Wan, will keep my word."

As she finished speaking, she resolutely opened the door of the ward. Her high heels stepped on the floor, making a crisp and firm sound, which gradually faded away until it disappeared.

Chi Wenyan was the only one left in the ward. He looked at the tightly closed door, and the last bit of light in his eyes went out, leaving only endless regret and despair.

He stretched out his hand, trying to grasp something, but only caught a piece of cold air. The coat lay quietly on the ground, just like his broken heart.

"No,... Wanwan..." He murmured softly, his voice hoarse and weak, filled with pain. The aftereffects of the alcohol and the heart-wrenching feeling at the moment intertwined, plunging him into darkness again.

The "tapping" sound of high heels disappeared in the corridor, and Ji Wan finally returned to Fu Chen's apartment.

She almost threw herself onto the soft big bed. Her mind was in a mess. Chi Wenyan's pale face, hurt eyes, and the glaring needle on the back of his hand appeared alternately with the scenes of him and Su Jiujiu entangled, tearing her nerves.

She turned over irritably, covered her head with the quilt, and forced herself to fall asleep.

After an unknown amount of time, there was a gentle knock on the door.

"Ji Wan? Are you awake?" Fu Chen's voice came through the door with a hint of temptation.

Ji Wan drowsily opened her eyes, her head aching and her throat dry. Too lazy to move, she mumbled, "Hmm..."

"I made some food. Do you want to get up and eat something? Or, are you interested in going out for a walk? I happen to be resting today." Fu Chen's voice was still gentle.

Go out for a walk? Ji Wan now felt that his eyelids were too heavy to lift, and he had no strength in his body.

"No, I'm a little tired and want to sleep a little longer."

She answered weakly.

There was silence outside the door for a few seconds, and then Fu Chen's voice sounded again, this time with a hint of concern: "Your voice doesn't sound right, are you feeling unwell?"

Ji Wan moved, trying to stand up, but she felt dizzy and a strange burning sensation on her forehead. She subconsciously raised her hand and touched her forehead.

"I... I might be a little..." Before she could finish her words, the door was gently pushed open a crack, and Fu Chen leaned half of his body in, looking at her with a slightly frown.

"Your face is very red." Fu Chen's eyes fell on her abnormally flushed cheeks, and his tone was affirmative.

He walked straight in and put his hand on her forehead.

Ji Wan was startled by his slightly cool fingers and subconsciously wanted to dodge, but he held her down.

"It's so hot." Fu Chen's face darkened instantly, "You have a fever."

Only then did Ji Wan realize the heat and weakness surging from within his body.

Her mind was completely focused on Chi Wenyan, and she didn't even notice anything wrong with her body.

Fu Chen turned and walked out of the room quickly, and came back a moment later with a thermometer and a glass of water.

"Measure it."

He handed her the thermometer.

The mercury column slowly rose and finally stopped at a glaring number - thirty-nine degrees.

"We must go to the hospital." Fu Chen's tone did not allow for argument, and he reached out to help her.

"No." Ji Wan pushed his hand away fiercely, saying firmly, "I hate the smell of disinfectant in the hospital."

That would remind her of Chi Wenyan and those unpleasant memories.

Fu Chen paused, looking at her pale yet stubborn face, his brows furrowed even tighter: "You have such a high fever, how can you not go to the hospital?"

"I'll be fine after a good night's sleep." Ji Wan's voice was nasal and childish. "I don't want to go."

Fu Chen stared at her for a moment, his eyes complicated. He finally gave up and said in a deep voice, "Then lie down. I'll get you some medicine and an ice pack."

Ji Wan watched him walk away, a strange feeling welling up in her heart. This man always took care of her feelings so quietly.

Soon, Fu Chen returned with a tray containing fever-reducing medicine, a glass of warm water, and an ice pack wrapped in a towel.

He carefully placed an ice pack on her forehead. The cool touch made Ji Wan sigh in comfort. Then, he handed her the pills and a glass of water. "Take the medicine first."

Ji Wan took it obediently and swallowed the pill. A bitter taste spread in her mouth, but she didn't find it difficult to swallow.

"Thank you, Fu Chen." She looked at him, her voice hoarse but sincere.
