Chapter 572 What Are You Crazy About?
She exerted force, snatched the glass from his hand, and slammed it down on the bar. The amber wine splashed out and splashed on the back of her hand, cold.
"Chi Wenyan, what the hell are you going crazy about?"
She couldn't stand it any longer and her voice suddenly rose.
The man finally turned around slowly.
There was no expression on his face. His peach blossom eyes, which were always filled with affection and smiles, were now like a pool of stagnant water, dark and bottomless.
He looked at her, his eyes unfocused.
"I'm not crazy."
His voice was mellower than the whiskey in the glass, but it also carried the same intensity and bitterness.
"you're right."
He pulled the corners of his mouth, but couldn't make a curve at all. His expression was uglier than crying.
"That's who I am."
"My mother, under the pretext of doing it for my own good, has completely suffocated my life, leaving me breathless."
"I hate those days."
His voice was very calm, as calm as if he was narrating something that had nothing to do with him.
But every word was like an ice-hardened knife, piercing into Ji Wan's heart.
"But just now, I actually wanted my child to follow that path."
He laughed at himself, with a deep self-loathing in his eyes.
"Ji Wan, you're right. I just want to satisfy my pathetic vanity."
Ji Wan was completely stunned.
She opened her mouth, but no sound came out.
So that's how it is.
Her unintentional words actually opened up the deepest scar of his childhood, bloody and grievous.
Her heart felt like it was being gripped by a huge hand, and the pain was so severe that she could hardly breathe.
She said nothing.
She just took a step forward, stretched out her arms, and hugged him tightly.
She used up all her strength, as if she wanted to transfer all her warmth to him.
"You're not."
She buried her face in his cold chest, her voice muffled but remarkably firm.
"Chi Wenyan, listen to this."
"You are not her."
"You can never be someone like her."
Chi Wenyan's stiff body softened little by little in her embrace.
His hand, which was hanging at his side, slowly rose and finally fell on her back, gently hugging her back.
The force was light, but it carried endless fatigue and dependence.
Ji Wan could feel him burying his face in the crook of her neck, his warm breath spraying on her skin, with a strong smell of alcohol.
"sorry."
The man's voice was so muffled that it was almost inaudible, with a strong nasal tone.
"Just now, I was the bastard."
Ji Wan's heart ached again.
She patted his back, as if comforting a big child who had been wronged.
"I don't blame you."
She released him, cupped his face, and forced him to look at her.
"Look at me, Chi Wenyan."
His eyes were still a little dazed, but they finally had a focus, and that focus was her.
"Listen carefully, we are husband and wife, and also parents of our children. We can have arguments and disagreements, but there is one thing I don't allow you to doubt." She spoke each word clearly.
"You are not allowed to doubt yourself, and you are not allowed to doubt us."
The man's eyes suddenly turned red.
Ji Wan's heart softened and his tone slowed down.
"Go sit on the sofa, I'll make you a bowl of hangover soup."
She helped him up and settled him on the sofa, then turned and went into the kitchen.
Soon, the sound of shredding ginger and the clatter of pots and pans could be heard from the kitchen.
Chi Wenyan sat on the sofa, looking at the back of the woman busy for him in the kitchen. The stagnant water in his eyes was finally shaken by a stone thrown into it, causing ripples.
Not long after, Ji Wan came out with a bowl of steaming hangover soup.
The rich smell of ginger syrup instantly dispelled the cold smell of alcohol in the living room.
"I drank it."
She held the bowl out to him.
Chi Wenyan didn't answer, but just looked at her steadily.
"My hands are numb and I have no strength." He was lying, his voice still hoarse from drinking.
Ji Wan rolled her eyes at him, but still sat down beside him, scooped up a spoonful of soup, blew on it, and brought it to his mouth.
"Open your mouth."
Chi Wenyan obediently opened his mouth and drank it.
The warm soup slid down my throat, and the warmth instantly spread to every part of my body, even my cold heart gradually warmed up.
He looked at her focused profile, at the tip of her nose which was slightly red from the heat, and his Adam's apple rolled.
When Ji Wan was feeding her the second spoonful, he suddenly reached out and grabbed her wrist holding the spoon.
The spoon stopped in mid-air.
"What's wrong?" Ji Wan frowned, "Did you get burned?"
"No."
Chi Wenyan's gaze was incredibly hot, as if it wanted to burn through her.
He leaned close to her, his thin lips almost touching her earlobe, his breath ambiguous.
“The soup is too sweet.”
"It's so sweet that it makes me a little dizzy."
His fingertips gently stroked her wrist, causing a shudder.
Ji Wan's heart skipped a beat and his cheeks grew hot uncontrollably.
"What nonsense are you talking about? Drink it!" She wanted to pull her hand back.
The man held on tighter.
He put his other arm around her waist and pulled her into his arms.
"Wanwan."
He lowered his head, resting his forehead against hers, their noses touching.
"Say what you just said again."
"Which one?" Ji Wan was held in his arms, her breathing disordered.
"You said you are not her."
"You said I could never be her."
His voice was low and pleading.
Ji Wan's heart softened.
She tilted her head back and kissed him on the lips.
This kiss was not lustful, but comforting.
After a long time, their lips parted.
She looked him in the eyes, serious.
"Chi Wenyan, you are you. You are the one and only you. You are the father of my child and my Ji Wan's man."
The emotions in the man's eyes surged, eventually turning into a deep love.
He took the bowl from her hand, put it aside, then picked her up and carried her sideways.
"Hey!" Ji Wan exclaimed.
"sleep."
Chi Wenyan held her in his arms and strode towards the bedroom, with a satisfied smile in his voice.
"I've finished drinking your hangover soup. Now it's time to sleep with my 'hangover medicine'."
The next morning.
The sunlight filtered through the gaps in the curtains and fell onto the bedroom floor.
Chi Wenyan woke up first.
The hangover headache did not appear, and the warmth and softness of the beautiful girl in his arms gave him a peace of mind he had never felt before.
He lowered his head, looked at Ji Wan who was sleeping peacefully in his arms, and tightened his arms.
Last night's loss of composure and vulnerability were completely smoothed out by her words of affirmation.
Ji Wan moved, her long eyelashes trembled, and she opened her eyes.
Their eyes met.
"Awake?" Her voice still had the laziness of just waking up.
"Yeah." Chi Wenyan's voice was hoarse, and he lowered his head and kissed her on the forehead.
Ji Wan didn't ask him why he drank so much last night, nor did he mention the name that made him lose control.
Everyone has corners that don't want to be touched.
She understands.
