Chapter 578 What Are You Hiding From Me?
Chi Wenyan.
No matter what you're hiding from me.
No matter what you're mad at me for.
You'd better remember that this family includes me and our children.
This is your harbor, but it may also be your graveyard.
If you dare to treat me like that again...
Ji Wan lowered his eyelids to hide the cold light that flashed across his eyes.
Let’s settle both old and new accounts together.
It’s late at night.
There was only a dim bedside lamp on in the bedroom. The light was ambiguous, but the atmosphere was cold.
Ji Wan had no desire to sleep.
She lay on her side with her back to the man beside her and could clearly hear his steady and long breathing.
He fell asleep.
After the quarrel, he slept peacefully.
But she was like a fool, with her eyes open, treating the ceiling as a movie, replaying his indifferent face over and over again.
Why?
The anger in my heart grew stronger and stronger.
Just then—
"ah!"
The man next to him suddenly let out a short scream and jumped up from the bed.
He was breathing heavily, his forehead covered with fine beads of cold sweat. In the dim light, his handsome face looked frighteningly pale.
I had a nightmare again.
Ji Wan slowly sat up, without trying to comfort him or turning on the light.
She just looked at him coldly, seeing him being seized by the nightmare and in such a miserable state.
It took Chi Wenyan several seconds to come back to his senses from his shock. He subconsciously turned his head and met Ji Wan's extremely cold eyes.
There was no heartache or worry in that look, only a desolate ice field.
His heart suddenly sank.
"Wanwan..." His voice was hoarse, with a hint of fragility as if he had just escaped from a nightmare.
"Shut up."
Ji Wan interrupted him coldly.
Her voice was not loud, but it was like an ice-hardened knife, piercing straight into Chi Wenyan's heart.
"Chi Wenyan, what the hell are you doing?"
She was too lazy to beat around the bush and went straight to the point with a firm tone that brooked no room for argument.
"You're so cold to me during the day, and so frightened at night as if you were possessed by a ghost. Do you treat this house as your stage? You can act like a boss if you want, or act like a thriller if you want?"
Chi Wenyan's face turned even paler. He subconsciously clenched the bed sheet beneath him, his Adam's apple rolling, but he couldn't utter a word.
"Speak!" Ji Wan's voice suddenly rose, "Are you mute?!"
"I'm fine." He finally squeezed out three words, his voice as dry as sandpaper rubbing against his face.
"fine?"
Ji Wan laughed angrily.
She reached out and, with a click, turned on the main light in the bedroom.
The dazzling light poured down in an instant, causing Chi Wenyan to squint subconsciously.
Ji Wan didn't budge, leaning forward, approaching him, and asking word by word: "You call this horrible look of yours okay? Chi Wenyan, look me in the eyes and say it again!"
He didn't dare look at her.
He looked away guiltily, trying to avoid her aggressive gaze.
"I told you, stay out of my business." He repeated the hurtful words he had said during the day, but his tone was far less tough than during the day. Instead, it revealed a sense of weakness that was both fierce on the outside and cowardly on the inside.
"What a 'mind your own business'!"
Ji Wan's chest heaved violently, and her anger burned so much that every part of her body ached.
"Chi Wenyan, I'm your wife! I'm not your part-time worker! I own half of this family. Your joys, sorrows, anger, and happiness all have to do with me!"
"Tell me clearly today, right now, right now, what are you hiding from me?!"
She pressed on step by step, her words as sharp as a knife.
Chi Wenyan was forced to retreat step by step by her, and finally he could only awkwardly lift the quilt and try to get out of bed.
"I'm going to sleep in the study."
"You dare to leave?!"
Ji Wan grabbed his arm, his nails almost digging into his flesh due to the force.
"Chi Wenyan, if you dare to walk out of this door today, we'll end it here!"
"What do you want?" He finally broke down, turned his head, stared at her with bloodshot eyes, and growled.
"What do I want?" Ji Wan sneered, but there was no smile in her eyes. "I just want to know if my husband, the father of my child, has caused some terrible trouble outside that he has to torture me with this half-dead attitude!"
"explain!"
"Did something happen at the company? Or...is your dad up to something again?"
Chi Wenyan's body suddenly stiffened.
He pursed his lips tightly, his jawline was tense, and his eyes were filled with hatred and pain, but he still kept his mouth shut.
silence.
Deathly silence.
This silence chilled Ji Wan's heart more than any vicious words.
Slowly, little by little, she loosened her grip on him.
"good."
"You're really good."
"Chi Wenyan, you're awesome."
She looked at him, the light in her eyes gradually extinguished, until only a dead gray remained.
"You don't want to tell me, do you?"
"Okay, I don't want to hear it either."
"Remember what you said today. From now on, I, Ji Wan, will never ask you any more questions about your affairs."
After saying that, she withdrew her gaze, lay down expressionlessly, pulled the quilt over her, wrapped herself tightly from head to toe, and never looked at him again.
It’s like building a high wall in my own world.
And Chi Wenyan was isolated outside.
Half a month.
For a whole half month, Chi Wenyan and Ji Wan became complete strangers living under the same roof.
No, worse than a stranger.
Strangers would nod when they met, but they didn't even give each other a glance.
At the dining table, the air was frozen.
In the bedroom, each person had a quilt, separated by the Chu River and Han River.
Chi Wenyan became visibly haggard, the dark circles under his eyes were so thick that they could not be removed, and his whole body was shrouded in a gloomy and depressed atmosphere.
He tried to speak several times, but when he saw Shang Jiwan's frozen face, all the words got stuck in his throat.
And Ji Wan did what he said.
She said she would never ask any more questions about him, and she really didn't ask a single word.
She poured all her energy into her work, acting with swiftness and decisiveness, acting more like a ruthless capitalist than ever before.
That afternoon, Feng Lou brought his complete project book and sat in Ji Wan's office again.
"Boss Ji, all the information is here."
Ji Wan took the thick stack of documents and read them carefully, page by page, without any impatience.
The only sound in the office was the rustling of papers.
After a long time, she closed the project book and tapped the cover lightly with her fingertips.
"very nice."
She raised her eyes, her sharp gaze landing on Feng Lou, "Very forward-looking, you are a genius."
Feng Lou felt a little uncomfortable being looked at by her, and said modestly, "Mr. Ji, you are too kind."
"I never compliment anyone."
Ji Wan leaned back in the large boss chair, folded his hands on the table, and exuded a strong aura.
"Not only will I invest in this project, I will also make additional investments."
