Chapter 589: Can be discharged from the hospital

Chapter 589: Can be discharged from the hospital

As she spoke, she changed the subject and asked with concern, "By the way, where's Nian Nian? Has she been discharged from the hospital? Is the little one feeling better now?"

When mentioning his daughter, Ji Wan's eyebrows softened instantly: "Well, she has been discharged from the hospital a long time ago. She can eat and sleep well and is very lively."

"That's good, that's good." Li Wen nodded repeatedly, but as she spoke, the smile on her face faded, and her expression became a little strange and hesitant.

She put her chopsticks on the table, leaned forward, and lowered her voice.

"Wanwan, there's something... I've been thinking about it for a long time, and I have to tell you."

Ji Wan raised his eyes to look at her: "What's so mysterious?"

"It's just Nian Nian..." Li Wen frowned tightly, "I really feel something is wrong the more I think about it. Wanwan, don't be angry, I just feel that the child really doesn't resemble you and Mr. Chi at all!"

Ji Wan paused in picking up the food.

The relaxed atmosphere in the air disappeared in an instant.

She lowered her eyes, her voice devoid of emotion: "The child is still young, his facial features haven't fully developed yet."

"Don't bring this up with me!" Li Wen, known for her straightforward nature, blurted out, "Why would there be such a big difference between grown-ups and underachievers? What do you and Mr. Chi look like? A perfect match! Nian Nian is cute, but her facial features... single eyelids, flat nose, they're completely different from you two! Not even close!"

Ji Wan's face darkened.

She gripped the water glass, her knuckles tightening slightly.

Li Wen also realized that her words were too harsh, and quickly slowed down her tone, her face full of worry: "Wanwan, I'm not trying to cause trouble, I'm really worried about you. Think about it, Nian Nian is still sick like that, could it be that there was a mistake back then in the hospital?"

"This kind of news has happened before!" Li Wen felt more and more that her guess made sense. "How about you go get another identification! Just check yours and Nian Nian's! Just to have peace of mind, okay? What if the baby is taken away by mistake? Then your biological child..."

"Li Wen."

Ji Wan interrupted her coldly.

She raised her head, and the gentleness in her beautiful eyes was gone, leaving only coldness and unquestionable determination.

"Don't mention this matter again."

Her voice was not loud, but it carried a huge sense of oppression.

"Nian Nian is my daughter."

"This will never change in my lifetime."

The air in the box froze.

Li Wen looked at Ji Wan's frosty face, and all the words she wanted to say were stuck in her throat, and she couldn't utter a single word.

She just didn't understand why Ji Wan reacted so strongly.

The meal ended abruptly in an eerie silence.

The car drove out of the restaurant's underground parking lot and merged into the endless stream of cars.

There was still frost on Ji Wan's face, and Li Wen's last question kept echoing in his mind -

"Why are you reacting so strongly?"

Why?

She wanted to ask herself that too.

The steering wheel creaked from being squeezed, and the veins on the back of the hand bulged.

The thorn buried deep in her heart was pulled out by Li Wen without mercy, with blood and flesh involved, and the pain was so severe that she could hardly breathe.

Just then, the cell phone rang at an inopportune time.

The shrill ringing of the bell broke the oppressive silence in the car.

Ji Wan glanced at the screen, and when he saw the name, his pupils suddenly contracted.

Sun Zhou.

She took a deep breath and let the phone ring without picking it up immediately.

The bell rang stubbornly over and over again, with a determination not to give up until its goal was achieved.

In the end, Ji Wan slammed on the brakes, stopped the car on the side of the road, and pressed the answer button.

"Hello." Her voice was cold as ice.

A weak but gentle man's voice came from the other end of the phone, with deliberate familiarity: "A Wan, it's me."

Ji Wan didn't say anything, waiting for his next words.

"I'm being discharged today." Sun Zhou's voice was filled with helplessness and loneliness. "I don't have many friends here. Could you please come over and help me with the paperwork?"

His tone was very low, as if he was asking for a great favor.

Ji Wan was silent.

Reason told her that she should refuse immediately.

Chi Wenyan had warned her that Sun Zhou was not an ordinary person.

But when he thought about the fact that he was in the hospital to donate bone marrow to Nian Nian, the words "I'm busy" got stuck in his throat.

"Address." Ji Wan finally uttered two words.

Half an hour later, Ji Wan appeared in the inpatient department of the First Hospital of the City.

She found Sun Zhou's ward, pushed the door open, and was greeted by the smell of disinfectant.

Sun Zhou had already changed his clothes into a washed-out shirt, which made him look even thinner and paler.

When he saw Ji Wan, his eyes lit up and he struggled to stand up from the bed.

"Don't move." Ji Wan walked over and put the car keys in his hand on the bedside table. He said in a businesslike tone, "Where is the discharge procedure form?"

"Here." Sun Zhou pointed to the file bag next to him.

Ji Wan took the list, turned around and walked out of the ward without saying a word.

She completed all the formalities promptly and got the medicine. When she returned to the ward, Sun Zhou was standing at the door waiting for her with a simple suitcase.

"Thank you, Awan." He looked at her with complicated eyes.

"No need." Ji Wan turned sideways to avoid his gaze and walked towards the elevator first, "Let's go."

The atmosphere in the car was even more depressing than when we arrived.

Ji Wan was concentrating on driving, his jawline tense, not even glancing at the person in the passenger seat.

"Is Nian Nian okay?" Sun Zhou spoke cautiously, breaking the silence.

When mentioning his daughter, Ji Wan's expression did not relax at all, and he only uttered a single syllable from his nasal cavity.

"Um."

Sun Zhou hit a snag and a trace of embarrassment crossed his face.

He turned his head to look at the rapidly receding street outside the window, and said in a low voice: "Awan, you seem to still be angry with me."

Ji Wan suddenly stepped on the accelerator and the car jumped forward.

She sneered: "Mr. Sun, we are not that familiar."

"Are you still blaming me for leaving without saying goodbye?" Sun Zhou continued to talk to himself, his voice filled with bitterness. "If I say that I had my own reasons back then, would you believe me?"

The corners of Ji Wan's mouth curled up in a mocking arc.

Hardships?

Is it popular to whitewash scumbags now?

"Believe it or not, it doesn't matter anymore." She looked straight ahead, her tone distant and indifferent, "It's all in the past."

The car quickly drove to the address of the old residential complex reported by Sun Zhou.

Ji Wan stopped the car steadily, unbuckled his seat belt, and spoke briefly.

"arrive."

"Awan..." Sun Zhou didn't move. He turned around and looked at her steadily. "Between us, we really can't..."

"cannot."

Ji Wan interrupted him decisively, his eyes sharp as a knife, "Sun Zhou, I came here today only because you almost donated bone marrow to Nian Nian. This favor has now been repaid."
