Chapter 73 Yuxiang City
When boarding the plane, Ji Wan thought about it and decided to send a text message to Chi Wenyan, telling him that he was going to Yuxiang City, the city next to Yucheng.
She had seen the place. Although it was a city, it was not big, at most a little bigger than a county town. The city was close to the sea and was one of the few coastal cities around Yucheng.
Looking back on these days, I have been dealing with the sea all the time. I wonder if this is a directive from God.
There are many thoughts in my head, lingering in them and can't be shaken off. The more I think about it, the more tired I feel. If I get anything out of it this time, should I go back to Zhou Zechuan's residence to check it out?
Living in Zhou Zechuan's house for the past few years, Zhou Zechuan has always been wary of her entering his room, as there must be a secret hidden there.
Ji Wan stood on the shore, the sea breeze whistling, the smell of salt stimulating her senses.
Closing his eyes, Ji Wan forced himself to calm down, and unknowingly his consciousness became drowsy and he fell into a dream.
When I woke up again, the plane had arrived at its destination. I stood up, took my suitcase, and got off the plane with the crowd.
I took a taxi to the port and observed the customs and culture of Yuxiang City along the way. Although it is underdeveloped, it still feels like a small county town.
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the shore. After getting off the car, Ji Wan stared at the sea. The waves hit the rocks, making a roar.
There were fishermen nearby, some mending broken nets, but they were few and far between, seemingly preparing for a new outing. Ji Wan lowered his eyes, pondered for a moment, and then walked straight towards an old fisherman who was bending over to sort his fish basket.
"Look at the wind direction, it looks like there will be big waves. It's really hard to do anything right now. Uncle, how was your catch today?"
"The wind may seem strong, but it's nothing at sea. I've seen waves even bigger than that before."
The old fisherman smiled and looked up. Seeing a well-dressed young woman with an extraordinary temperament, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, and then he smiled naively and said, "The harvest is not bad, young lady. Are you from the city?"
Ji Wan smiled slightly and did not give a direct answer. "Yes, my family opened a small company and wanted to import some seafood to sell. I heard that this place is close to the sea, so I came to take a look. I don't want to go so far. I wonder if you have any good recommendations here? I'm willing to pay a high price." As she spoke, she took out a corner of a wad of cash from her bag and shook it in front of the old fisherman, whose eyes suddenly lit up.
"Oh, girl, you have found the right place!" The old fisherman was delighted and began to introduce various fish to Ji Wan enthusiastically. Ji Wan listened and nodded, and occasionally interjected a few words about the market conditions. He seemed both professional and shrewd, and bargained for prices at the right time, showing the merchant's mercenary nature to the fullest.
As they talked, they occasionally glanced at their surroundings, observing for any signs of outsiders, but remained calm on the surface.
After chatting for a while, Ji Wan began to change the subject: "Uncle, as you said, we sell freshly caught fish here. Have you seen any outsiders coming here to buy recently? To be honest, I was recommended by a friend." The old fisherman thought for a moment and shook his head. "There have been a few people recently, but they are sporadic, not like they are buying in large quantities."
Ji Wan had an idea in mind and asked, "Did any outsiders come in two years ago? Or did you see any strange vehicles or people coming here on a certain night?"
The old fisherman's expression changed, and he looked at Ji Wan with some wariness in his eyes. Ji Wan smiled without showing any emotion, took out two red bills and stuffed them into the old fisherman's hand.
The old fisherman smiled and stopped what he was doing. He had lived for so long that he had become a shrewd man. How could he not know that Ji Wan came to talk to him and actually came to ask questions?
"Two years ago, they said they were going to develop the tourism industry here, but it never happened in the end. However, a lot of outsiders did come here at that time. Little girl, do you have any photos?" the old fisherman whispered.
Ji Wan pulled a photo from his bag. The old fisherman stared at it for a moment, his eyes tinged with memories. "It looks familiar. A black sedan did come here. It doesn't look cheap."
Ji Wan was startled, but suppressed his nervousness and nodded calmly, saying, "Continue."
"My home is just uphill in front. It was night and it was raining a bit. The car window was half open and the person inside was wearing sunglasses, so I couldn't see his face clearly."
Ji Wan's heart tightened, and he continued to ask, "Which direction did the car go?"
"They went to the shore, stayed there for a while, and then left. It was too dark to see anything. The sea is also dark at night. If it weren't for the car shining in the moonlight, they would have almost merged into the night."
"So when you got up this morning to fish, did you see anything... like people..."
"No, if I had seen it, I would have called the police long ago. Girl, are you..."
The old fisherman seemed to have guessed something, sighed softly but didn't dare to say it.
"Uncle, please do me a favor. I will send you some money every month. How about you keep an eye on this person for me?"
"Oh, it's just something that happens to me. Why should I pay for it?"
Having said that, the old man had already taken out his cell phone from his pocket.
Ji Wan smiled. It would be best if it was profitable. That way she wouldn't have to worry about any problems along the way. For the sake of money, he would also keep an eye on it.
"I'll give you two thousand dollars a month. Please keep an eye on this place for me. If any suspicious vehicles come by, please let me know. And please help me find out the details of this matter."
"If you find any clues, I'll add 500 for each clue."
"become!"
The old fisherman's mouth was grinning from ear to ear. Only a fool would turn down such a good opportunity where one could get money by stalking.
Ji Wan nodded and took a deep breath. She would know if Zhou Zechuan was related to this matter after just one try.
After leaving the port, Ji Wan found a quiet coffee shop and called Zhou Zechuan, who was quickly connected.
"Wanwan?"
"Zechuan, have you been working all night again recently? You sound very tired."
"fine."
"You just work too hard. Coincidentally, I heard that the seafood in Yuxiang City is particularly fresh. I thought I'd go there after my business trip and bring you some. It's your favorite kind, right?"
On the other end of the phone, Zhou Zechuan's voice suddenly became a little hurried, "Wanwan, you don't have to bother so much. I have everything here. You just need to take good care of yourself and don't worry about these trivial matters."
Ji Wan sneered in his heart, but remained expressionless on his face, "But I miss you, can't you satisfy me with this little thought?"
Zhou Zechuan was obviously a little flustered. "No, Wanwan, listen to me, don't go there. The road conditions over there are complicated. I don't want you to be at risk. Do you understand me?"
Ji Wan hummed softly, but her heart was more certain. Zhou Zechuan's reaction confirmed her suspicion. "Okay, Zechuan, since you said so, I won't go. It's great to have you always worrying about my safety. I'm so happy."
