Chapter 10
On the first weekend after the storm subsided, Song Mingye specially canceled all his work and took Song Linchuan and Xiaobai to a guesthouse in the suburbs. The guesthouse was located at the foot of the mountain, and the courtyard was full of roses and wild roses. When the wind blew, the fragrance of flowers filled the air, making it exceptionally pleasant.
As soon as Xiao Bai entered the yard, it ran around excitedly, circling the flower bushes and occasionally stopping to wag its tail at the two of them. Song Linchuan sat on a wicker chair in the yard, holding a book in his hand, but he didn't really read it. He just looked at Song Mingye, who was pruning the flowers not far away, with a faint smile on his lips.
Song Mingye was dressed in a simple white T-shirt and jeans, the sleeves rolled up to reveal his muscular forearms. He gently trimmed the overgrown branches, sunlight falling on his profile and outlining his soft features. Noticing Song Linchuan's gaze, he turned his head and smiled at the boy: "What are you looking at? So engrossed."
"Look at you." Song Linchuan didn't hide it at all, his eyes sparkling. "Brother, you look so handsome when you're working hard."
Song Mingye put down the scissors, walked over and sat down next to him, reaching out to pinch his cheek: "You're so sweet-talking." He picked up the water glass on the table and held it to Song Linchuan's lips, "Drink some water, don't be thirsty."
Song Linchuan opened his mouth to take the warm water, which slid down his throat, warming his heart. The two sat side by side, occasionally chatting about everyday things, but mostly just quietly enjoying this rare moment of leisure. The distant mountains stretched endlessly, the nearby air was filled with the fragrance of flowers, and Xiao Bai lay lazily at their feet. Nothing could be more serene than this.
As evening fell, the guesthouse owner brought over fresh ingredients, smiling as he said, "There's a stream nearby where you can catch fireflies at night; it's quite lively."
Song Linchuan's eyes lit up: "Really? I've never seen fireflies before."
"Of course it's true." Song Mingye ruffled his hair. "I'll take you there tonight."
The two of them cooked dinner together. Song Mingye was in charge of stir-frying, while Song Linchuan assisted. Although his movements were a bit clumsy and he even accidentally cut his hand, Song Linchuan still smiled happily. Song Mingye looked at the cut on his fingertip, frowned with heartache, and quickly took out a band-aid to put on it for him: "Be careful, don't hurt yourself again."
"Okay, brother." Song Linchuan nodded obediently, his eyes full of dependence.
After dinner, it gradually got dark. The two of them, with Little White in tow, walked along the path towards the stream. As soon as they reached the stream, they saw tiny fireflies dancing in the grass, like stars falling from the sky.
"Wow, so beautiful!" Song Linchuan couldn't help but exclaim, reaching out to grab them, but then he was afraid of disturbing the little fairies.
Song Mingye took a clear glass bottle out of his pocket and handed it to her: "Be gentle, don't scare them."
Song Linchuan carefully reached out his hand, and a firefly slowly landed on his fingertip, its tail flashing with a captivating glow. He gently placed the firefly into a bottle, watching it dance inside, his face filled with joy.
"Brother, look!" He handed the bottle to Song Mingye, his eyes reflecting a fluorescent light, as if they held the entire starry sky.
Song Mingye took the bottle, looked at the fireflies inside, then at the smiling boy beside him, his heart filled with tenderness. He put his arm around Song Linchuan's shoulder, letting him lean against him: "From now on, we'll come here every year to see the fireflies."
"Okay." Song Linchuan nodded, buried his head in his chest, and felt particularly at ease listening to his strong heartbeat.
Little White lay quietly to the side, seemingly captivated by the beautiful scene. The stream flowed gently, fireflies danced in the air, and the fragrance of flowers mingled with the scent of grass, creating a heartwarming picture.
As night deepened, the two returned to their guesthouse, their hearts filled with joy. Song Linchuan released the fireflies back into the grass, watching them fly into the night sky, a pang of sadness in his heart. Song Mingye hugged him from behind: "Don't be sad, we'll see them again next year."
"Mmm." Song Linchuan turned around, hugged Song Mingye's waist, and pressed his face against his chest. "Brother, it's so good to have you here."
Song Mingye tightened his arms and lowered his head to plant a kiss on the top of his head: "Silly boy, I will always be with you."
Moonlight streamed through the window, bathing the two of them in a gentle, bright glow. Xiao Bai curled up by the bed, emitting soft snores. The room was utterly quiet, save for the soft mingling of their breaths, warm and comforting.
Song Mingye knew that a relationship that had weathered storms would become even stronger. He and Song Linchuan's future might still present various challenges, but he believed that as long as they stood shoulder to shoulder, they would overcome all difficulties and usher in a peaceful and happy life together.
A gentle evening breeze wafts through the windows of the guesthouse, carrying the fragrance of flowers and a hopeful anticipation for the future. Their story flows slowly and warmly through the years.
