Chapter 87 Everything is ready except for the final push. He Zhao and Hua Hua reached an agreement...
Everything is ready, except for the east wind.
After He Zhao and Hua Hua reached an agreement, He Zhao went to see the bureau chief. The bureau chief chatted with her for a few minutes, and after He Zhao expressed her gratitude, she waved her hand, saying, "There's no need to thank me; we should be thanking you. If it weren't for you, this wouldn't have been so easy. Besides, what you asked for wasn't anything difficult. Wang Yu will be taking Hua Hua over tonight. Also, have Wang Yu pick up Qiao Yanyu. Have a good time tonight."
He Zhao nodded, and out of courtesy, she also extended an invitation to the bureau chief.
However, the bureau chief was quite open-minded and directly refused: "I won't go. After all, I am their leader, especially Wang Yu. She will definitely not be able to act freely when she sees me. She doesn't need to worry about me."
After leaving the countermeasures bureau, He Zhao went to the market. This time, she didn't buy chicken, but instead carried several bags of new rice. He Zhao bought the kind that weighs ten pounds a bag, in small packages, which made it easier for her to carry. If it were a pound a bag, she simply couldn't carry it.
A bag of ten pounds of rice is only enough to feed about 20 people. That night, He Zhao attracted so many ghosts; who knows how many more will come? Besides, these ghosts are all gluttons; if they eat freely, it's a bottomless pit. One bag simply won't be enough.
He Zhao bought a total of 20 bags. Seeing that she bought so many, the shop owner was very kind and delivered them directly to her door, saving He Zhao the trouble of carrying them herself.
However, He Zhao didn't leave immediately. Instead, she went to a nearby store and bought some other things, such as a large rice cooker. Her small rice cooker would have to cook so many meals! He Zhao simply bought a big one, which could produce a lot of rice in one pot. Fortunately, her guests were all ghosts, eating the perfectly cold rice from her secret recipe. If they were living people, she would have to be careful to keep the rice warm.
Besides that, she also bought a lot of disposable bowls, chopsticks, and picnic mats. With so many things, she couldn't possibly arrange seats, so they'd just sit on the ground in twos and threes. She also bought a lot of chili peppers; she couldn't just have regular white rice, she needed a special kind too.
Returning to the residential compound with the rice deliveryman, He Zhao was nearly stopped by the security guards. This was an upscale community, inhabited by elite individuals who traveled in black luxury cars. Unlike He Zhao, who rode an electric tricycle and looked like a street vendor. Now, to make matters worse, he even had to bring rice inside.
But He Zhao's mouth wasn't just for show; he berated the security guard and then, with his head held high, led the boss into the residential area. After several trips back and forth, they finally managed to carry the twenty bags of rice into the house.
After the boss left, He Zhao rolled up his sleeves and began his cooking journey.
She started working at 4 PM, and except for eating a bowl of takeout, she didn't stop for a moment. She finally finished cooking all the rice at 9:30 PM. At this time, she also received a call from Qiao Yanyu. Wang Yu had already picked her up and was now going to the paper craft shop to pick up the ordered drinks, and then to the countermeasures bureau to pick up Huahua.
He Zhao then realized that they hadn't even decided what to eat for the rest of them that night. She quickly opened a food delivery app, bought a lot of food, and ordered it to be delivered to the second streetlight near the park entrance. After doing all that, she carried the rice she had cooked, which was in a large plastic bag, to the food cart, making several trips in total.
Don't blame He Zhao for being un particular; after all, it's food for ghosts, so there's really no room for being picky.
At worst, we can just put it in the rice cooker later, as long as it looks decent.
When she arrived, it was already past 10 o'clock. The park entrance was a veritable sea of ghosts, completely blocking the walkway. Seeing so many ghosts, He Zhao decided against setting up a stall at the entrance and simply pushed her car into the park.
Fortunately, the park doesn't close at night, and indeed, no one comes here. Otherwise, with so many ghosts gathered together, even an ordinary person with normal sanity would probably be able to see them. The ghosts chattered incessantly, and many of them were unfamiliar to He Zhao. He even wondered: "Ah, did I really give it rice that night?"
But since they were already there, He Zhao couldn't very well turn his guests away.
Because there were so many ghosts, He Zhao's regular customers were all overwhelmed, and He Zhao didn't even see them for a moment. He Zhao pushed the food cart, and the ghosts followed him. After entering the park, He Zhao began to speak: "Everyone, don't worry, not everyone has arrived yet. We're on our way now, and we'll start eating in a bit."
"While we have this time, let's spread out our picnic mats on the lawn. You're all lightweight, so you won't weigh down the grass if you float over. It wouldn't be good if I walked over and trampled the flowers and plants."
He Zhao was just rambling on to slack off, but to the ghost's ears, it sounded quite plausible. So, in twos and threes, they each grabbed a picnic blanket and went to spread it out on the lawn. Just then, He Zhao's phone rang. Seeing that it was a virtual number, He Zhao knew his takeout had arrived.
He Zhao raised his hand, signaling everyone to stay put. Otherwise, if the food delivery drivers saw so many picnic mats flying around at the park entrance, they'd be scared to death.
"Hello?"
He Zhao answered the phone, and the delivery guy's voice came from the other end: "Hello, is this the delivery you ordered? This address is strange, and there's no one at the door..."
"Wait a minute, I'll come out and get it." He Zhao said on the phone as she left the park. When she got to the entrance, she saw the delivery guy waiting on his electric scooter. He saw He Zhao, quickly shoved the food into her hand, and sped off.
He Zhao scratched his head, realizing he had chosen a rather strange location. He Zhao was carrying his things and walking back when a car approached from a distance. The headlights were a bit dazzling on the dark road, so He Zhao raised his hand to shield his eyes, and the oncoming car switched from high beams to low beams.
The car wasn't big, just a tiny electric scooter, one of those mini cars. It had a macaron pink and blue color scheme, making it look incredibly cute. The car drove right up to He Zhao before stopping. By the light of the streetlamp, He Zhao could see Wang Yu in the driver's seat, Qiao Yanyu in the passenger seat, and Hua Hua in the back.
Qiao Yanyu opened the door and took the wheelchair from Huahua in the back seat. Just as Qiao Yanyu was about to open it herself, He Zhao took it from her. Although she didn't quite know how to use it, she had seen it in videos and thought it looked easy to open with just a slight shake.
However, it was still somewhat difficult for him to operate it himself. It took He Zhao a while to open the wheelchair.
During this time, Wang Yu hadn't paid any attention to this area. She stopped the car, pulled the handbrake, turned off the engine, and then pulled down the back of her driver's side so that Hua Hua could climb out from the back. Wang Yu's car was cute, but it was indeed very small, with limited space; the back seats could only be accessed after the front seats were folded down.
When He Zhao saw this, she was shocked. Was Hua Hua a ghost? Couldn't she just crawl out of the window or the trunk? But she didn't say anything, struggling with the wheelchair. After finally unfolding the wheelchair and confirming that everything was in order, she reached out and, together with Wang Yu who had rushed over, helped Qiao Yanyu out.
After Qiao Yanyu sat in the wheelchair, He Zhao couldn't help but criticize Wang Yu: "Couldn't you have gotten a bigger car? Sister Qiao is a patient now, it must have been so uncomfortable for her to sit like this the whole way. If you had gotten a car with a bigger back seat, she could have lay down. Don't you have any heart?!"
Wang Yu was scolded, and stammered an explanation to herself: "But this is the only car I have..."
He Zhao rolled his eyes so hard they almost reached the sky: "You only have one car, but is your Countermeasures Bureau really that poor? You don't even have an official vehicle? If you just ask to borrow one, do you think the bureau chief won't lend it to you?"
After she finished speaking, Wang Yu belatedly realized and said, "Oh, right."
He Zhao was at her wits' end with this big idiot. She put the takeout she had just received under the wheelchair, pushed Qiao Yanyu inside, and Hua Hua, who was handcuffed, quickly followed. Wang Yu scratched her head, locked the car door, and then hurried after them.
Meanwhile, the ghosts in the park had already laid out their picnic mats, all staring at He Zhao with eager anticipation, just waiting for the meal to begin. However, He Zhao not only came by himself, but also brought two other people and a ghost. The two other people were one thing, but the ghost was the main culprit, making all the ghosts present almost bare their teeth in disgust.
Needless to say, He Zhao's regular customers had all exchanged blows with Hua Hua at some point. Even though Hua Hua was eventually controlled by He Zhao, it had still managed to get whipped by its hair a few times in the early stages. Especially the Mud Demon; if it weren't for Hua Hua's interference, its trident might not have been damaged.
It's perfectly normal for them to bare their teeth at Huahua. As for the other ghosts, although they hadn't seen Huahua directly, many of them had received talismans containing hair from the villains. And the smell of that hair was exactly the same as Huahua's, wasn't it?
As for the ghosts who had neither seen the flowers nor handled those strange things, they felt they had to fit in. Everyone else was showing off their teeth, and they, with their own set of bright white teeth, couldn't just stand there and look at them.
Facing the snarling ghost, He Zhao coughed twice: "What are you doing? Are you discriminating against them? Aren't there any lost ghosts here who have repented? Yes! Then why discriminate against them? I know you envy them for being more powerful than you, but look!"
He Zhao pointed to Hua Hua's handcuffs: "Don't worry, everyone, she's already handcuffed, she's no longer a threat. Eat and drink as usual, what are you doing there?"
She went to her food cart, took out a rice cooker, a rice scoop, and disposable bowls and chopsticks, and tapped the table a few times with the rice scoop: "Line up! Ghosts who don't line up don't deserve to eat!" The sutured water ghost, who had suffered a great loss last time, rushed in front of He Zhao and showed a provocative smile to the other ghosts behind him.
The other ghosts then realized what was happening and quickly lined up, all for the sake of having a bite of white rice.
Qiao Yanyu looked at Huahua, who was still a little reserved, and whispered, "You should go queue up too. She said that if you don't queue, you won't get any food." Huahua raised her hand, nodded, and said "Mm," before jogging over.
Wang Yu saw the takeout food under Qiao Yanyu's seat and thought she could finally eat too. But then she heard Qiao Yanyu say, "Where's the paper drink He Zhao asked you to bring?"
Wang Yu suddenly realized, "It's in the car, I forgot to take it, I'll go right now!" Wang Yu ran off, and Qiao Yanyu looked at He Zhao and nodded in satisfaction: Wang Yu still wanted to sneak around and start eating first? Dream on, she definitely wanted to wait for He Zhao to join her.
Surely He Zhao can't be serving rice while Wang Yu starts eating it first, can he?
