Chapter 63 Amidst the Flames of War, You Fell in Love with My Wife

Chapter 63 Amidst the Flames of War, You Fell in Love with My Wife

Was your grandmother trying to induce labor this morning?

Although there was a layer of soundproof glass between them, it wasn't hard to guess the content of his conversation with his grandmother from Liang Minghe's standard lip and teeth movements.

Besides, Zhou Jinqin knew Liang Minghe's restless mouth all too well; he always liked to stand at a distance that wasn't too close or too far, silently expressing his love with slow, undulating movements of his lips and teeth...

Of course, back then, most of what we said were embarrassing and vulgar love talk, things that couldn't be openly shared with outsiders.

As usual, Liang Minghe parked his car at the intersection some distance from the company. He smiled and shrugged, saying nonchalantly, "Don't worry, I think that dog probably has beagle genes. When it gets a bit older and barks all day long, they'll be too annoyed to worry about their grandson."

Neither of my maternal grandparents liked keeping pets, especially not pets that could be kept indoors. On the one hand, my grandfather was worried that his treasured antiques would be broken by the cats and dogs jumping around. On the other hand, my grandmother had trouble sleeping and couldn't stand being disturbed. So Liang Minghe almost never took Tuantuan to my maternal grandparents' house halfway up the mountain.

But the elderly always dote on their grandchildren. When their grandson brought the puppy to them, they looked disgusted, but still silently adopted the dog and kept it at home.

Shenzhen is warm all year round, so Liang Minghe didn't object to having Kong Feifei's carpenter come and build a wooden house for them to keep the dog in a spacious yard. He let the two elders do as they pleased.

Zhou Jinqin asked, "What about before? Did they often urge you?"

"It's alright, I usually just let it go in one ear and out the other, it's nothing to bother me." Liang Minghe turned to kiss her lips, smiling and gently comforting her, "I know you're worried about me, but don't worry, I didn't want to have the child myself. Even if you suddenly told me you wanted a child that belongs to us, I wouldn't compromise and agree just because I love you."

He rubbed her ear and said, "You know, raising a child and raising a pet are completely different concepts. We need to be very careful when making this choice. I'm not ready to be a father, and I don't think you're ready to be a mother either. So no matter how much pressure we face from the outside world, we shouldn't rush into the next stage of our lives. We've both learned our lesson from our family experiences, so I think we'll both be more rational about this, right?"

"What if I'm never ready in my entire life?" Zhou Jinqin asked, her eyes lowered.

Liang Minghe cupped her face in his hands, letting her gaze fall naturally onto his own face, and said, "Then it's enough for this lifetime to just have you and me."

He told her, "Children are not a necessity in my life."

Zhou Jinqin said, "But marriage isn't either."

Liang Ming smiled, his eyes crinkling: "But you are."

Zhou Jinqin was dazed by his kisses, her eyes were watery and she looked somewhat dazed and confused, but her heart was secretly pounding with joy.

Liang Minghe glanced out the window, gave her a light kiss on the rosy lips, and reluctantly let go: "Alright, my darling, go to work. I'll pick you up tonight."

"Okay, be careful on the road." Zhou Jinqin replied a beat late, momentarily forgetting her habit of not needing him to pick her up.

After getting off the bus with her bag, Zhou Jinqin started walking towards the company. After a few steps, she suddenly realized that Jia Yang was less than two meters away in front of her.

Thinking about the subtle interaction between them, Zhou Jinqin felt a little awkward and hesitated whether to go up and say hello. Before she could figure it out, Jia Yang turned around and greeted her first.

"Good morning," Zhou Jinqin replied with a smile, politely walking up to stand beside him.

Jia Yang smiled and said, "I was still wondering when you would catch up."

"Huh?" Zhou Jinqin asked, puzzled.

Jia Yang said, "I saw Mr. Liang's car."

"..." Zhou Jinqin was a little embarrassed, wondering if the other person had noticed the ambiguous scene in the car.

Fortunately, Jia Yang didn't mention any of these things; he just chatted with her about some work-related matters.

Jia Yang noticed her absent-minded gaze and suddenly asked, "What's wrong?"

Then, as if remembering something, he said self-deprecatingly, "Talking to you about work outside of work hours does seem a bit unromantic. I'm sorry for bothering you. Maybe I really am rather dull, and I don't know what to say to you."

Zhou Jinqin shook her head, "No, it's just..." She pointed to his hair, "a leaf fell on your hair."

Jia Yang scratched his head a few times but failed to catch his target, Ye Zi. Helpless, he had no choice but to bend down and ask Zhou Jinqin for help: "Can you help me?"

It was such a small favor, and to refuse outright would seem like I was trying to hide something. Zhou Jinqin nodded and reached out to pluck the tiny green leaf from his hair.

"Ahem, the leaves are quite small, so they are indeed difficult to find when you can't see them," she said, trying to smooth things over.

Jia Yang took the leaf and smiled gently at her: "It's good that you're here."

It was just a simple sentence, but the ambiguous atmosphere between the two inevitably made people think of other things. Zhou Jinqin turned her head away uncomfortably and said, "Don't mention it, I just happened to see it."

Jia Yang smiled but his eyes didn't reach his eyes. He didn't say much: "Well, the light's green, let's go."

About a bend away from the company, Zhou Jinqin suddenly heard a very faint meow coming from the green belt. Because of the constant traffic noise, it was not very clear, so she asked Jia Yang, who was with her, to confirm.

Jia Yang listened carefully and said, "It does seem to be true."

He followed the sound and parted the bushes, and sure enough, he found a kitten that was barely alive. It looked like it had just been born, its belly was flat, and one eye was covered with secretions and could not be opened. It was probably an inferior kitten that had been abandoned by its mother.

Dark clouds have gathered in large patches, and a downpour will soon follow. Leaving the kitten here would be tantamount to waiting for it to die.

Zhou Jinqin couldn't just ignore it, but since she worked for a pharmaceutical company, she couldn't bring the cat inside temporarily for safety reasons. She thought she should just call Liang Minghe back, who had just left, so that the kitten would at least have a safe place to stay in this terrible rainstorm, and then decide on the kitten's fate later.

As she pondered this, she had just taken out her phone when Jia Yang stopped her.

He said, "I'll take it to the vet."

"Is it okay?" Zhou Jinqin looked at him suspiciously.

Jia Yang nodded: "Don't worry, I'll just go to the hospital after I get the documents from the company, so no one will suspect anything."

Jia Yang's job doesn't require him to be in the office regularly. He has to go to the hospital a few days a week to maintain contact with various medical experts, so it's perfectly normal for him to be away from his post.

Zhou Jinqin accepted the phone: "Thank you for your hard work. You can contact me if you need anything later."

"It's not hard work." Jia Yang shook his head and looked up at her. "If you're worried, you can go to the vet to see it after get off work."

Zhou Jinqin stared at the tiny cat curled up in his palm, her heart clenching: "Okay, I'll go over after get off work. I'll leave it to you for now. Let's see if we can find it a home together."

“Okay,” Jia Yang said.

Fortunately, the kitten received timely medical treatment and was not seriously injured. It was just a little malnourished and underdeveloped, and its eyes were probably covered and it couldn't see the road clearly. It is speculated that it fell from the green belt onto the road and had a slight fracture in its front leg.

After receiving the news from the front lines, Zhou Jinqin was relieved. She offered to cover the medical expenses, since she was the one who first discovered the cat and suggested sending it for treatment. She felt that Jia Yang shouldn't have to put in both effort and money, but Jia Yang refused.

Zhou Jinqin had two more meetings to attend later, and she didn't have time to argue with him about the issue, so she had to put it aside for the time being and discuss it in person after get off work.

Even though Zhou Jinqin was certain to be jealous when she told Liang Minghe not to come pick her up after get off work, she didn't hide anything from him, adhering to the principle of honesty between husband and wife.

She gently coaxed, "Don't be angry."

“You’re doing a good deed, I’m not angry.” Liang Minghe on the other end of the phone didn’t sound very emotional. “I’m just thinking about how to break down your ‘two-person world’ in a reasonable and justifiable way.”

“What do you mean by ‘a romantic getaway’? We don’t own the pet hospital, anyone can come here.” Zhou Jinqin chuckled. “Don’t be so hostile towards him, it’s just a coincidence.”

Liang Ming muttered, "But aren't there too many coincidences...?"

"What did you say?" Zhou Jinqin didn't hear clearly.

"It's nothing," Liang Minghe said with a slight smile. "I just thought of a way to get involved."

Jia Yang finished his work at the hospital early and arrived at the pet hospital before Zhou Jinqin arrived, only to run into an uninvited guest.

"Mr. Liang?" He raised an eyebrow, his tone indifferent. "What are you doing here?"

Jia Yang took out his phone, wondering if he had missed Zhou Jinqin's message, such as her asking her husband to look after the cat to avoid suspicion...

But no, there was only one unread message in the chat box: she had already boarded the subway.

Liang Minghe smiled enigmatically: "Is it strange? Anyone can come to a pet hospital. I just brought my kitten here for a check-up."

Jia Yang refused to believe such a coincidence existed. Most likely, this guy was just jealous of him being alone with Zhou Jinqin and forced his way in. But what could he do? After all, they were the official couple…

Jia Yang nodded politely, but couldn't find anything nice to say to him, so he just made up some random topics to chat about: "Mr. Liang seems to have a very relaxed job."

“Yes, someone in the family always needs to manage the household,” Liang Minghe replied without hesitation.

Jia Yang said in a nonchalant tone, "I don't think I've ever seen you pick up Jinqin. It seems Mr. Liang has a lot of responsibilities at home. You must be very busy."

“It’s not hard work, but as a husband I have indeed failed in my duty. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have given others the impression that they could take advantage of my vulnerability.” Liang Minghe suddenly said meaningfully, “Thank you for the reminder, Mr. Jia. I will be more vigilant and cautious in the future to prevent unrelated people with ulterior motives from forcing their way in.”

He paused and then continued, "But speaking of picking up and dropping off my wife from get off work, Mr. Jia, didn't you see me? Just this morning."

Jia Yang, with his eyes half-closed, said calmly, "Really? Where is it? I don't think I noticed it."

Liang Minghe glanced at him and said coldly, "That's true. I think your eyes automatically ignore people you don't want to see, which is why you're so self-righteous and give yourself the illusion that you might be able to rise to the top."

"What does Mr. Liang mean by this?" Jia Yang looked up at him.

Liang Ming glanced at him coldly: "Do I need to remind you? You've fallen in love with my wife."
