Window words bloom
At the end of August, the sun was shining brightly overhead, and the air was filled with heat. A gust of hot wind blew by and caressed the girl's fair face, causing Qiao Yu, who had just opened the car door and was about to get out, to pause slightly and purse her red lips.
Coming from Yun County to Haicheng, I really couldn't get used to it. The hot and humid climate was just like the steam from the boiler on my grandmother's stove, unbearably hot.
Qiao Yu, dressed in a clean and tidy blue and white school uniform, followed her mother into the school with her schoolbag on her back.
In the center of the school playground, the five-star red flag fluttered in the wind, and a few figures moved between the corridors of the teaching building.
A woman in a gray-white casual suit and high heels gracefully stepped forward to greet the mother.
The two chatted and laughed. Qiao Yu looked around and overheard the gist of what they were saying: they were being introduced to the campus.
One of the top private high schools in Haicheng, with no more than 25 students in each class, teachers can take care of every aspect of students' lives and encourage inquiry and self-discipline.
The facilities are complete. In addition to the usual school facilities, there is also a self-service restaurant, a coffee bar, a book bar, a gym, and a six-person study room.
The school buildings have four-person rooms, two-person rooms, and single rooms...
This pleased Qiao Yu greatly, as it meant she could live on campus and have her own room.
The woman explained that, frankly, the children who come here are all highly self-disciplined, either from well-off families or academically excellent, since such an environment is not cheap.
After explaining the general situation, the woman smiled and led the two towards the teaching building.
The warm yellow sunlight slanted through the window and fell obliquely on the steps, half bright and half dark.
Just as I was about to step onto the stairs, I heard several people talking on the stairs.
"I'm not full, let's go eat some more."
"Are you a pig? You eat so much every day."
Being able to eat is a blessing...
The group stopped, and Qiao Yu looked up.
Several boys in blue and white school uniforms appeared at the stairwell. Two of them were laughing and joking with each other, and another boy was following behind them as they came down from the corner.
He wasn't wearing his school uniform jacket; he was only wearing a simple white T-shirt. The bright light shone on him, making his white T-shirt shine.
He didn't chat or laugh with them, but walked down the street with his hands in his pockets at a leisurely pace.
As he passed by Qiao Yu, his gaze swept over her briefly.
......
The woman led them on a tour of the teaching building, finally stopping in front of a classroom on the third floor. The door read "Senior Three Class A," and at a glance, only a few seats were empty.
Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of a familiar figure sitting in the last seat of the second row.
"Qiao Yu, based on your previous grades, we have placed you in Class A. You can sit in any empty seat. If you need help, just ask a teacher. Also, the school prohibits students from bringing electronic devices. If caught, you will receive a major demerit for the first offense and expulsion for the second. If you need to use one, you can borrow it from a teacher."
The woman's words brought Qiao Yu back to her senses, and she smiled and agreed.
"Then Mom will go first. Study hard." Mom patted her a few times with her slightly calloused fingertips. Qiao Yu nodded and watched her mother leave.
She then turned and walked into the classroom.
No one paid attention to her; everyone was looking down, either reading or writing on paper, so engrossed that they ignored the presence of others, which relieved her desire to distance herself from social interaction.
She took a deep breath and glanced at the classroom setup. It was quite standard, with five rows and five columns, and only the last two rows had a few empty seats. Qiao Yu hesitated by the window.
I had no choice but to walk to the other two empty seats in the back row.
The next second, two tall figures suddenly appeared from behind, walked casually to the two empty seats, and plopped down.
Qiao Yu: "..."
They were the two people I met on the stairs earlier.
She paused, looked around, and just then the boy leaned forward and took a notebook out of his bag.
Qiao Yu realized that the seat was probably empty; it was just a place where someone had put their backpack.
Qiao Yu's cool gaze fell on the only empty seat, and the boy behind the empty seat seemed to sense something and slowly looked up.
Their eyes met.
Lu Yu looked up and saw the girl's doe-like eyes filled with confusion and helplessness. She was carrying a white canvas backpack, and her fingernails were tightly digging into the backpack strap.
His pupils contracted, his brow twitched slightly, he raised his chin and pointed to the spot in front of him, then glanced at the empty seat by the window in the farthest distance.
It seemed to be indicating that she could sit on that side as well.
Qiao Yu was stunned. The boy's dark eyes were unfathomable, with a faint glimmer of light, and a few strands of hair were casually scattered on one side of his forehead.
His reminder wasn't very friendly, but Qiao Yu still chose to walk over.
Before he even reached the seat, the boy reached out, picked up the black backpack, put it back on his seat, and then lowered his eyes without any expression.
Qiao Yu paused, pursed her pink lips, and looked around again. No one noticed their actions, so she walked towards the empty seat again.
As I approached and sat down, I placed my backpack behind me. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the boy's well-defined fingers gripping a pen and rapidly calculating.
Qiao Yu wanted to thank him, but the boy completely ignored her presence and didn't even look up. She swallowed the words back down.
He took out his books and pen, turned around as if fleeing, and buried himself in his reading.
As Qiao Yu buried her head, curious and inquisitive gazes immediately fell upon her from the surrounding area, some raising their eyebrows, others blinking incredulously.
Everyone knows that no one dares to sit in the seat in front of Lu Yu, and no one would even try.
This girl, who clearly didn't know the situation, accidentally sat in Lu Yu's territory.
Everyone had different thoughts.
The class ended, and the bell had just rung.
There was a commotion behind me, and a tall man strode past me. He was tall and had long legs. He wore a white T-shirt and blue and white striped sweatpants. The simple outfit looked very comfortable on him.
Before the boy even reached the door, the two boys who had previously fought with her for a seat strode over to his side, and the three of them disappeared from Qiao Yu's sight.
Qiao Yu's eyebrows twitched slightly, then she lowered her head again.
In the annex coffee shop, three boys each got a cup of coffee and sat down on the high stools by the window.
Su Yu held a half-cup of coffee in one hand, nudged Lu Yu with his elbow in the other, and looked at him with a sly glint in his eyes.
"What's wrong with you? Why are you suddenly offering me your seat?" He even slowed down his speech for the last few words.
Qin Moyao looked over curiously upon hearing this.
Lu Yu glanced at the two of them, said nothing, raised his coffee cup and took a sip. The warm coffee, mixed with sourness and bitterness, slid down his throat.
Su Yu and Qin Moyao exchanged a glance, then said, "Could it be that you've been swayed by that little girl's beauty..."
"Get lost," Lu Yu said irritably.
"It's all because you two stole someone else's seat."
Lu Yu recalled the girl's bewildered, deer-like eyes, and helplessly tugged at the corners of his lips before taking a sip of coffee.
Qin Moyao noticed Lu Chen's subtle movements. "Oh, I've never seen you like this before."
Su Yu: "That's right, that's right."
The two looked at Lu Yu with curiosity and suspicion, as they had never seen him be so considerate before.
Lu Yu sipped his coffee without saying a word, his gaze drifting indifferently elsewhere.
Before we knew it, it was afternoon, and the last period was a self-study class.
As before, Lu Yu would go downstairs with Su Yu and Qin Moyao for a while after each class, and Qiao Yu had also gotten used to the noise behind her as soon as the bell rang.
Half an hour later, the school bell rang.
The boy behind her returned to his seat right on time, and soon Qiao Yu heard an unusual sound.
In the past, he was very quiet at the beginning of each class, with only the rustling sound of pens and paper behind him. But now, it was the sound of zippers being opened and closed, and books being opened one by one.
Qiao Yu's train of thought was interrupted by this strange sound. She pricked up her ears to listen, and the next second, "smack!" The book slammed heavily on the desk, making a huge vibration.
Everyone was startled by the sound, stunned, and turned to look at Lu Yu.
Qiao Yu was among them, her bewildered gaze once again falling upon the boy behind her.
His gaze was slightly cold at this moment, his thin lips were tightly pursed beneath his high, straight nose, and he leaned back in his chair, one hand resting on the table as he leisurely observed the entire room.
Their gazes naturally fell on Qiao Yu.
Lu Yu squinted slightly, a few strands of hair obscuring the girl's face. Her amber eyes were quite unique, but they were filled with confusion.
At this moment, Su Yu and Qin Moyao also approached Lu Yu. They first glanced at Qiao Yu with surprised and inquisitive eyes, and then looked at Lu Yu with puzzled expressions.
Su Yu, "What's wrong?"
Lu Yu tapped the table a few times with his well-defined knuckles, revealing a hint of anger, and then raised his index finger to point at the pencil case on the table.
Su Yu seemed to have thought of something, picked up the pencil case, opened it, and exclaimed, "Oh my!"
Lu Yu's most treasured fountain pen is missing; no wonder he got so angry.
Su Yu cast a sympathetic glance at Lu Yu, then winked at Qin Moyao beside him, and the two exchanged a knowing smile.
Su Yu raised an eyebrow and cleared his throat, "Classmates, could you please check if anyone has seen a... very antique black fountain pen?"
A very antique black fountain pen?
A murmur of discussion quickly filled the classroom: "The pen is missing? Stolen?"
"This has never happened before."
"Whose hands aren't clean? Could it be...?"
A series of suspicious gazes inadvertently fell upon Qiao Yu, who was standing in front of Lu Yu.
Qiao Yu also heard the hushed whispers of the crowd, and she looked at Lu Yu again.
Questions, fear, terror, and disbelief occupy my mind.
Lu Yu glanced at the girl in front of him, immediately ruling her out. He didn't speak, but tapped his fingertips on the table a few more times, as if urging her on.
Su Yu understood immediately, "Thanks everyone for looking for it."
The students then realized it was Lu Yu's intention, and they began searching their desks, drawers, and bags...
Qiao Yu frowned slightly. She didn't take it, but she still looked down and examined it.
However, near the zipper of her backpack, there was a strange black fountain pen lying there.
Qiao Yu's face turned pale instantly. How could this be happening to her?
She had never seen this pen before.
She awkwardly took it out of her bag, turned around, and handed it to Lu Yu.
She didn't say anything, her gaze calm yet stubborn as she looked at the boy behind her.
The girl's fair fingers held a black fountain pen, creating a striking contrast with her porcelain-white skin.
Lu Yu was also taken aback. His gaze fell on the girl's face. She was calm and just shook her head without saying anything, seemingly unwilling to explain anything.
Su Yu and Qin Moyao were also incredulous at the sight. Their eyes widened slightly as they glanced at Qiao Yu and then turned to Lu Yu, both wondering how he would handle the girl in front of them.
Based on Lu Yu's past style, this girl will most likely never appear in front of everyone again.
The students who witnessed this scene whispered among themselves again, "See, it's her."
"She looks so innocent, but she's actually..."
Qiao Yu bit her lower lip tightly, but her pupils still showed unwillingness and stubbornness. She did not argue, nor did she know how to explain.
Seeing that the boy didn't reach out to take the pen, she had no choice but to place it on his desk. Then she heard him say coldly, "It's not her."
Everyone was stunned again.
Lu Yu is defending her.
Qiao Yu's heart skipped a beat, seemingly not expecting the boy to say that. She slightly raised her eyelids, but his gaze only lingered on her for a second before he turned his head and said to Su Yu, "Go check it out."
......
Su Yu did not return until the last class ended.
Qiao Yu finished her last self-study class with mixed feelings. When the bell rang, she packed up her paper and pens and put them back in her bag.
Turning around, he saw that Lu Yu had already packed up, picked up his schoolbag, and left his seat, and Qin Moyao left with him.
Qiao Yu paused for a moment before picking up her schoolbag, putting it on, and leaving the classroom.
At the bicycle parking area near the school gate, Su Yu held up an iPad and handed it to Lu Yu.
"I've seen the surveillance footage. It's not that girl, but it didn't capture her identity clearly either. Anyway, it's probably one of those people."
Lu Yu calmly accepted the document. The time displayed on the screen was exactly half an hour before the last class. After he left his seat, the girl was still studying with her head down. A few minutes later, the girl also stood up and left the classroom.
Then a few girls in the next row stood up, seemingly chatting, completely blocking the girl and his seat.
Lu Yu moved the corner of her lips and handed the iPad back to Su Yu, "Okay, I understand."
Qin Moyao: "It seems like someone is targeting that girl."
Su Yu nodded in agreement. "By the way, what's that girl's name?"
Lu Yu glanced at Su Yu and said, "Mind your own business."
"I'll ask for you." Su Yu had just finished speaking when he raised an eyebrow, as if speaking of the devil himself.
Then they saw a girl, so white she was almost blinding, carrying her white canvas backpack, walk downstairs. The group followed Su Yu's gaze.
"Qiao Yu".
Qiao Yu looked in the direction of the voice and was stunned to see Qin Xiao.
By the way, they're in the same school, and he's in class C.
The boy grinned and walked towards Qiao Yu.
Qiao Yu eyed Qin Xiao warily. He walked up to her, and a playful voice came from above her head, "Let's go, my dad said he'd like to treat you to dinner and asked me to pick you up."
Noticing Qiao Yu's wary gaze, Qin Xiao frowned: "What, do you think I'm going to eat you?"
He looked down at the girl in front of him. In the setting sun, her fair face was dappled with orange shadows. Her long, curled eyelashes fluttered, and the shadows left tiny halos of light on her eyelashes.
Qiao Yu instinctively took a step back, uttered a very soft "oh," and walked away on her own.
Qin Xiao smiled helplessly and followed Qiao Yu's steps.
Those on the other side of the bike shed can see what's going on here.
Lu Yu then learned that her name was Qiao Yu. As for which "Yu" it was, he quickly searched his mind and thought it was either the "Yu" in "language" or the "Yu" in "rain".
How did she come to know Qin Xiao? He didn't hear their conversation face to face afterward, but he could tell that their relationship was unusual and that they left together.
Su Yu's cunning gaze shifted back and forth between Lu Yu and Qiao Yu. "That girl's name is Qiao Yu. It's a nice name, and it suits her well. Lu Yu, your rival in love is actually Qin Xiao."
Qin Moyao suppressed a chuckle, while Lu Yu gave Su Yu a speechless glare. "If you have nothing to do, I can suggest to Uncle Su that you go work at a construction site."
The Su family started out in the real estate business, and the school in front of us is all part of their real estate.
"No, no, no, I'm just reminding you." Su Yu immediately made a zipping motion near his mouth.
Lu Yu narrowed his dark eyes and glanced at the two people walking away before looking away. "Let's go eat."
"Where to go, what to eat?"
"Even eating can't shut you up."
"Let's go eat some local Shanghai cuisine."
......
In the black Mercedes-Benz, Qin Zhi was driving, Qin Xiao was sitting in the passenger seat, and Wang Yingxuan and Qiao Yu were sitting in the back.
The car was playing Qin Xiao's favorite music, one energetic rock song after another, which made Qin Zhi frown and scold, "You brat, turn off the music."
Qin Xiao rolled his eyes and turned off the music.
Then Qin Zhi's voice softened considerably, "Xiaoyu, let me take you to try some local Shanghainese cuisine in Haicheng."
As he spoke, he glanced at the rearview mirror, as if seeking Wang Yingxuan's opinion.
Wang Yingxuan looked up and nodded. "Xiaoyu, do you want to eat?"
Qiao Yu: "Okay, thank you, Uncle Qin."
Qin Zhi: "You're welcome, you're welcome, we're all family."
During the meal, Qiao Yu went to the restroom.
With her eyes lowered, she carefully washed her fingers as the water flowed over them.
The moment she turned off the water, she looked up and saw a familiar figure appear in the mirror.
Qiao Yu was startled and turned around abruptly. The boy was leaning against the wall on one side of the aisle, and when she looked over, he lazily lifted his eyelids.
