Chapter 11 Shopping
After wandering around for a while, I got lost. Good heavens, this was a strange era more than 1,800 years ago... As the chaotic footsteps grew closer, my palms started to sweat.
"Come with me." The dog's voice rang out at just the right moment, and to me at that moment it sounded like heavenly music.
After walking for a long time, following the dog around and around, we ended up back at the dilapidated thatched hut in the north of the city.
Ah Man held my hand tightly the whole way, keeping his head down and not saying a word.
Standing in front of the thatched hut, Gou'er glanced at Aman, but said nothing, and silently went back into the hut alone.
I finally let out a sigh of relief and almost collapsed to the ground, sweat pouring down my forehead as I gasped for breath. The weather was unbearably hot.
After resting for a while, once my heart had calmed down, I jumped up again. Looking at Aman covered in blood, I felt a pang of sympathy. "Are you injured? Does it hurt?"
He just kept his head down and didn't say a word.
I drew water from the well and dipped my hands in it; it was cool and refreshing, and felt very comfortable. I took off the blood-stained white shirt that was no longer recognizable, and then gently wiped the blood off his body and face with water.
Under the blazing sun, his tanned skin left me speechless; his physique was far more appealing than Aman's.
He kept his head down and remained silent.
I carefully wiped every bloodstain on his body with a damp strip of cloth, afraid of hurting his wounds. But after I had wiped all the blood off his body, I suddenly froze.
He didn't have a single scratch on his entire body...
Recalling the gruesome death of that mustachioed man and the corpses scattered all over the ground... not a single drop of blood on Aman's body was his own!
Aman suddenly looked up, and I was startled. I subconsciously took a step back, and unconsciously, I looked at him with a hint of fear in my eyes.
So many people, yet he alone...
He was facing away from the sun, and the intense sunlight made me dizzy, so I couldn't see his expression at all.
"Xiaoxiao, so much blood..." he said softly, his voice carrying a sense of desolation.
I froze, a feeling of guilt welling up inside me. Almost instinctively, I rushed forward and gave him a bear hug. "Don't be afraid, it's okay now."
He rested his chin on my shoulder, silently.
"I'm hungry," the dog's voice sounded behind me, tinged with a hint of resentment.
I let go of Aman and turned to look at the dog. "Huh?"
“I’m hungry,” the dog repeated.
"Gurgle~~" 2a
"Gurgle~~" As if to show how hungry he was, his stomach began to rumble.
I forced a smile. "Why are you looking for me if you're hungry?"
"Yesterday, Gou'er waited in the rain all night for his sister, and then ran around all morning looking for her." Gou'er stared at me with his clear black and white eyes, deliberately trying to make me feel guilty.
"Hehe," I started sweating. What's going on? One by one, they've become my creditors? They're clearly burdens, so why are they acting so self-righteous? "Alright! It's my treat. I'll give each of you a new set of clothes and take you out to eat!" I patted the money pouch I'd stolen yesterday and the money I got from selling Aman today, and I smirked, full of pride.
"Really?" The dog's dark little face finally softened a bit.
Nodding, I announced, "More real than pearls," then looking at his dirty, black face, I added, "But... first, wash off that mud!"
The dog paused for a moment, then blushed slightly.
I gave a sinister smile and moved closer to him. "Could it be? Is there something you're ashamed of? Or... is our dog a girl? Hahaha..."
The dog turned its head away in shame and indignation, ignoring me.
"Huh? That's quite unique," I grinned, reaching out my wet hand to wipe his face.
The dog bit its lip, but didn't flinch, letting me rub its face.
"Uh..." My conscience pricked me, and I felt like this was bullying the weak. "If you really don't want to wash, then forget it."
"I'm yours, do whatever you want with me." With his eyes closed, the dog said something that made me both laugh and cry.
However, since the person in charge has spoken, we might as well obey.
After I washed and dried the dog, I was slightly dumbfounded.
“Dog…” I stared at the dog and spoke.
"Hmm?" the dog replied.
"You're so beautiful." I nodded and said solemnly.
The dog was speechless, glared at me with a mixture of shyness and anger, and a suspicious dark red appeared on its fair skin.
"Oh!" I exclaimed in realization. "So you're a girl! Your father must have made you dress as a boy to avoid being taken advantage of when you're out in the world, right?"
The dog was extremely embarrassed, and then gritted his teeth, grabbed my hand, and pressed it hard against his chest.
I exclaimed "Huh?" and followed his lead, touching something flat on my chest. I then saw his face contorted with shame and indignation, and quickly nodded in understanding.
I glanced at Aman slyly, then pulled the dog into my arms and lowered my voice, "Don't worry about that, it will come naturally when you grow up. Don't worry, if you don't understand anything in the future, just ask your sister." Pretty children are indeed lovable, and I patted his head with great affection.
The dog's face began to display a variety of colors, alternating between green and white, which was quite a sight.
"Alright, let's go," I said, taking the dog's hand and calling to Aman, "Let's go shopping together."
The streets of Xuchang were quite lively. Holding a dog in one hand and Ah Man in the other, strolling along the streets in a time and space a thousand years ago, it truly felt like stepping into another world.
Along the way, there were taverns, simple snack stalls, and some jewelry shops.
"Doggy, doggy, look, isn't that pretty? It'll definitely suit you!" I pointed to a clothing store across the street. There was a white long dress with a tight-fitting bodice, wide sleeves, and a pleated skirt that trailed on the ground.
The dog glanced at it, and its fair face immediately turned bright red. "I'm not a woman."
I nodded, looking like I knew everything. "Of course, of course, our little girl is still a little girl," I said, and then pulled him forward to try on clothes.
"Sister..." Gou'er looked awkward and refused to move forward.
I smiled and said, "Good boy, don't try to save money for your sister. These things all have returns on investment."
"Return on investment?" Dog looked at me with a suspicious expression.
"Yeah, yeah, I just saw a house over there that's not too expensive. I could buy it and open a pastry shop. If you, Gou'er, were standing at the shop entrance wearing this outfit, wouldn't customers flock to the place?" I nodded, grinning from ear to ear.
"You..." Gou'er was speechless with anger.
“Doggy…” I gazed at him with longing.
"Whatever," Gou'er muttered, then grabbed the clothes and went to try them on.
"Aman, you should try this one too," I said, handing Aman a light-colored robe. His bright purple robe was too conspicuous; if someone really wanted to kill him, they should be extra careful.
Aman nodded and obediently went to try.
I then chose an ordinary men's robe to try on.
Under the shopkeeper's extremely impatient gaze, I slowly took out my money.
The three of them came out of the clothing shop, and their appearance had changed drastically.
The dog, however, had a sour face, seemingly throwing a tantrum.
