Chapter 139 The Departure of the Half-Immortal (Part 2)

Chapter 139 The Departure of the Half-Immortal (Part 2)

I turned around, strode out of the kitchen, and ignored him.

I had only taken a few steps when I saw Baozi standing outside Guo Jia's room, staring at me with his obsidian-like eyes.

"What's wrong?" I walked over and patted his head.

"What does it mean to 'live in history'?" He looked up at me, seemingly understanding but not quite.

Did he hear that?

I was slightly taken aback.

Baozi looked at me for a while, then suddenly laughed and jumped into my arms, snuggling, "Mommy..."

Seeing him act coquettishly as usual, I secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

"I'm going to help Uncle Hua prepare his medicine!" Baozi said, slipping away from my arms like an eel.

I saw him rush into the kitchen, so I pushed open the door and went into Guo Jia's room.

Guo Jia had already woken up and was leaning against the couch, half-lying down and half-sitting, holding a writing brush in his hand, wearing glasses, and struggling to write something.

He coughed, his hand holding the pen trembling slightly, as if he could barely hold the pen anymore.

I stood at the doorway, watching him use all his strength to grip the pen, lifting it as if it weighed a ton.

Suddenly, he coughed violently, and the blood he coughed up splattered onto the bamboo slip. He hurriedly raised his sleeve to wipe it, unaware that the pen in his hand had rolled to the ground.

I walked over, sat down on the ground, picked up the pen, and placed it next to him. "You're so sick, what are you still writing?"

"Brother Mengde, this time you led your troops on a western expedition. Yuan Xi and Yuan Shang have fled and will surely seek refuge in Liaodong." Guo Jia handed me the letter and said, "Please pass this letter on to Brother Mengde. If I am no longer here when you return, you can follow the plan."

"What nonsense are you talking about?" I frowned, seeing his words as if he were giving his last.

“Pei’er…” Guo Jia looked up with a pale face and smiled helplessly.

My heart tightened, and I reached for the letter, casually placing it aside. "Understood, I will pass it on."

"Hmm." Guo Jia smiled.

As soon as he finished speaking, the door was pushed open, and Hua Yingxiong walked in carrying a bowl of medicine. A faint aroma of medicine immediately filled the room.

The smile turned into a bitter one, and Guo Jia sighed softly.

"Drink it obediently." Hua Yingxiong handed over the bowl of medicine.

Guo Jia shook his head, "Drinking or not drinking, we'll both die, so why suffer the pain?"

"I'll get you some honey, it won't be bitter," I said, turning around to get the honey.

After taking the honey, I hurried back. Just as I reached the door, Guo Jia's voice came from inside.

"I know my own body best. Taking medicine is useless and a complete waste," Guo Jia said with a faint smile.

"Just for peace of mind," Hua Yingxiong said, pursing his lips slightly.

For whom do we seek peace of mind?

“Xiaoxiao, if you don’t take your medicine, she’ll probably be hiding somewhere crying,” Hua Yingxiong said, pursing his lips. “That fool thinks it’s a magic pill that can prolong her life.”

"Your relationship with Pei'er is quite special," Guo Jia said with a light cough and a smile.

Hua Yingxiong rolled his eyes. "We're from the same place. She's a bit simple-minded, and sometimes she's so silly that it makes you worry for her. If I don't keep an eye on her, she might just kill herself."

Just as I was about to push open the door to protest, Guo Jia laughed and said, "Am I really about to die?"

"What?" Hua Yingxiong raised his eyebrows.

"Someone as cautious as you would say that you and Pei'er are from the same place. You must have known I was a dead man who wouldn't reveal anything, which is why you're so open about it," Guo Jia laughed.

“You’ve misjudged this time,” Hua Yingxiong said, approaching him with the medicine in his hand. “I consider you a friend.”

Guo Jia smiled and said, "Thank you."

"Drink your medicine." Hua Yingxiong handed him the bowl of medicine.

Guo Jia took the bowl of medicine with a wry smile and drank it all in one gulp. "So bitter..."

I pushed the door open, glared at Hua Yingxiong, and handed the honey pot to Guo Jia.

Hua Yingxiong shrugged and walked out of the room.

"Do you still remember the rouge cake I taught you to make?" Guo Jia suddenly asked with a smile.

"Remember."

"I'm a little hungry." He smiled, his lips pale.

I didn't say anything, I just turned around sullenly and went to the kitchen.

"The amount of honey must be just right. Too little and it will be bland, too much and it will be too cloying. Cough cough... And the red beans must be made into very fine red bean paste so that they will be smooth in the mouth..." Guo Jia said worriedly from behind.

“I remember.” I didn’t turn around and went straight to the kitchen.

"What's wrong?" Hua Yingxiong, who was in the kitchen, asked when he saw me enter.

"The immortal wants to eat rouge cake." I turned around to find the ingredients.

"You'll do it?" Hua Yingxiong raised an eyebrow.

"Um."

"The Half-Immortal is truly courageous, unafraid of being poisoned to death..." Hua Yingxiong laughed.

I lowered my head to mix the honey, and for the first time ever, I didn't compete with Hua Yingxiong. I don't know why I was so eager to finish, as if I was afraid he wouldn't even have time to eat the rouge cake...

After making the rouge cake, I hurriedly took it back to my room. When I opened the door, I saw that the immortal was still lying peacefully on the couch. I breathed a sigh of relief and walked over with the plate.

"Is it good?" I asked when I saw him put a piece in his mouth.

"Do you want to hear the truth or a lie?" Guo Jia coughed lightly and chuckled.

"Then you can lie."

"It's delicious, the best I've ever eaten."

I want to laugh, but I can't move the corners of my mouth.

"I'm tired, I want to sleep for a while."

I helped him lie down.

"Pei'er," he called softly, suddenly pulling my hand as he lay there.

"Um?".

"You said that even if I die, I won't see her in the afterlife, right?" He asked, his eyes as clear as autumn water, his voice very soft.

I gritted my teeth, angry at myself for saying such cruel things.

He laughed, without a trace of sadness, like a child who had learned some secret.

His eyes, as clear as autumn water, slowly closed, and the room suddenly darkened. He did not speak again.

I didn't dare to disturb him, so I got up and left.

When I opened the door, the bright sunshine outside stung my eyes.

I sat down on the steps outside the door and sat there for a long time until Baozi came to call me for dinner.

Pushing open the door, Guo Jia was still lying on the bed, moonlight shining on his pale face, and he did not move at all.

"Dinner's ready, get up," I said, standing in front of his bed.

He remained with his eyes closed, not moving at all.

Outside, a star fell.

In the twelfth year of Jian'an, Guo Jia died of illness.

In the same year, Zhuge Liang emerged from seclusion.
