Chapter 14 The Man in Blue
When I turned around, I saw that the fat woman had already led her people to rush up, so I had no choice but to grab the dog and rush into the room without thinking twice.
The dog turned around warily and closed the door.
"Ahhh..." The half-naked woman began to scream repeatedly, as if she were performing a soprano.
"Shut up!" I glared at her fiercely.
"Ahhh..." The woman kept her eyes closed, showing no intention of shutting up, and the noise seemed to be getting worse.
"I said, shut up!" I pulled out a gleaming Swiss Army knife from my pocket, held it in my hand and played with it precariously, grinding my teeth as I spoke.
The soprano immediately shut her mouth, stared wide-eyed at the knife in my hand in terror, tears streaming down her face, perfectly embodying the phrase "pitiful and charming."
"Don't be afraid, it's alright." The man in blue gently coaxed the woman as he pulled her into his arms.
The woman hid in his arms, trembling uncontrollably, her body shaking like autumn leaves in the wind.
I rolled my eyes at the man in blue. This guy was the perfect embodiment of "dying under a peony flower, even as a ghost, he'd still be romantic."
Seeing me glare at him, the man in blue simply smiled at me without any apparent concern.
I was taken aback. Looking at him closely, the loose blue robe he wore seemed a little strange on his thin frame, yet it also gave him a somewhat elegant and refined air. His eyes were so clear that they seemed to be able to see through people's hearts, and at this moment, there was a faint smile in his eyes.
Laugh? He can still laugh at a time like this?
"What are you laughing at? Aren't you afraid I'll kill you!" I sized up his thin frame, which looked as if a gust of wind would knock him over. After assessing him, I concluded in my mind that this person posed no threat.
He still smiled, "The girl won't kill anyone."
I snorted, showing my disdain with my nostrils, but inwardly I was slightly startled. He spoke with such certainty, as if he could see right through me.
"You're truly the most gentlemanly customer I've ever met," I said with a smirk. Even with disaster looming, he was still trying to appease the woman.
"Thank you for the compliment, young lady," he said with a smile.
My lips twitched slightly, but he looked somewhat familiar.
"Sister, they're banging on the door," Gou'er said, tugging at my sleeve.
I turned around and saw the door being slammed shut with a loud bang.
"Break down the door!" the fat woman yelled from outside.
"Granny...Granny, save me..." The woman, trembling in the arms of the man in blue, cried out, almost fainting from crying.
"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid..." The man in blue gently patted her back, then looked up at me again, "Miss, is there anything I can do to help?" He spoke, extremely politely.
My eyebrows twitched slightly; this scene was truly bizarre. "Do you know Huifeng? I've come to find her," I said, strangely enough.
“Miss Huifeng is next door…” he pointed and smiled.
I raised my hand to my forehead; a headache was starting to ache. This feeling... was truly indescribable. Let me give you an analogy: during an exam, which would cause you more heartache—59 points or 0 points?
"No need to worry, Miss Huifeng will be here soon." He sat there, holding the soft, fragrant body in his arms, and smiled calmly.
"What is your surname?" I asked, glancing at him.
"Hmm?" He raised his eyebrows slightly, then smiled again. "I am Guo Jia, Guo Fengxiao."
"You're such a prophet, Guo the Fortune Teller!" I retorted irritably. He speaks with such certainty about everything, it's really frustrating to watch.
The man in blue was slightly taken aback, then smiled, "What is your name, young lady?"
Well, it is impolite not to reciprocate.
I grinned and said, "Xiaoxiao." I certainly didn't want to reveal such a disgusting name to the public, so I just forced a smile...
His expression stiffened slightly, a moment of confusion flashed in his clear eyes, before he smiled gently, "What is your surname, young lady?"
I gritted my teeth and squeezed out a single word: "Pei".
"Pei Xiao?" He was surprised, then pursed his lips, a smile flickering in his eyes.
I knew it...fe
"Just call me Xiaoxiao." I frowned and waved my hand dismissively.
"Pei'er." He smiled gently as he parted his lips.
"Um?"
"May I call you Pei'er?"
This time I understood, but it felt strange. Pei'er? No one has ever called me that before.
It wasn't until much, much later that I understood what a cruel joke fate had played on me; it wasn't until much, much later that I understood that there had once been a traveler from another time, just like me, who shared my name, Xiaoxiao… It wasn't until much, much later that I understood why the pale, sickly man before me hadn't called me Xiaoxiao…
Because that name had left such a deep imprint on his heart...
Calling that name must make even breathing painful...
"Granny, Huifeng has earned you quite a bit of money in this brothel, why make things difficult for my friend?" Huifeng's voice rang out calmly from outside the door.
I was surprised and looked at the man in blue. He had guessed right.
The banging on the door stopped, and the voices outside gradually faded away.
"Knock knock knock..." There was a knocking sound on the door.
I took a step back, on guard.
The man in blue released the woman from his arms and slowly went to open the door.
Only Huifeng was outside the door.
Hui Feng bowed slightly to the man in blue, then looked at me. "Miss, my child..." she suddenly stopped, glancing strangely behind me.
The dog looked down at its toes and remained silent.
“She is…” Hui Feng hesitated.
"Your daughter." I pulled the dog over, walked out of the room, and turned back to close the door behind the man in blue. "Sorry to disturb your enjoyment, please continue."
"Thank you for your trouble, young lady." The man in blue actually nodded and smiled at me.
My lips twitched, and I ignored him, turning to look at the dog.
The dog glared at me somewhat embarrassedly, its face turning red to the roots of its neck.
Hui Feng paused for a moment, then smiled faintly. "Thank you for taking care of him, young lady." With that, she took a delicate purse from her sleeve and handed it to me. "I've never fulfilled my responsibilities as a mother. Having him with me in a place like this will only make him a laughingstock..."
My brow furrowed involuntarily. I wanted to say something grand and righteous. I wanted to tell her that no child wants to leave their mother, no matter what. Even the most wretched woman is always a haven of happiness in her child's eyes... I wanted to tell her that being abandoned by one's mother is a nightmare that can never be erased or shaken off for the rest of one's life...
But looking into Huifeng's clear, watery eyes, I couldn't bring myself to say anything. Gou'er's eyes were actually very much like Huifeng's, clear and beautiful, with a hint of indifference, stubbornness, arrogance, and sorrow.
