Chapter 158 A Trick of Fate (Part 1)
With my eyes closed, I felt like I was lying on soft bedding.
It must be in the Tongmeng Pavilion of the Prime Minister's residence. I smiled slightly.
I recalled Cao Cao's confession in my dream.
If he sees me come back...would he be happy?
Hua Yingxiong agreed to put the steamed bun into my belly so that we could continue our mother-child bond... Then I can have another baby.
This time, I won't go anywhere, I won't run away again, I'll stay by Cao Cao's side.
So... my love was left behind 1,800 years ago...
It turns out... I loved him so deeply... regardless of whether there was a predestined relationship in a past life.
I heard footsteps nearby.
My lips curved into a smile. Ah Man! I'm here!
I suddenly opened my eyes, ready to scare the person who came in, but I was startled myself because standing in front of me was a strange middle-aged man!
"Who are you?" I asked timidly, startled.
"Yuanji, what's wrong?" The middle-aged man touched my head. "Don't you even recognize your own father?"
I blinked, my mind a little foggy.
"Brother, are you sure you haven't mistaken me for someone else?" I grinned and patted him on the shoulder with a smile.
The middle-aged man froze instantly. "Yuan Ji... I am your father..." His lips twitched.
"Is Yuanji awake yet?" A pale woman walked in after a light cough. Seeing me, she rushed forward and took my hand. "Yuanji, you scared your mother to death. How could you fall into the well like that?"
Fell into the well?
I blinked, looking completely confused.
"Let me see if you feel unwell anywhere," the woman said, looking at me with a gentle expression.
"You are... Mother?" As if bewitched, I stared blankly at the gentle woman; her hands were warm and soft.
Is this what a mother feels like?
"Yuanji, don't scare your mother. Have you caught a cold?" The woman asked anxiously, coughing lightly.
"Don't worry, Madam. The doctor has examined her and said that Yuanji is fine." The middle-aged man quickly patted the woman's back gently.
The people in front of me are clearly a couple, and they're actually claiming to be my parents?
Could it be that God took pity on me and sent you a pair of parents?
The woman turned around and took the soup bowl handed to her by the maid. "Yuanji, this is soup that your mother made herself. Try it and see if you like it."
She scooped up a spoonful and brought it to my lips.
I took a sip from her hand, and it tasted delicious, so I couldn't help but drink a few more sips.
"Yuanji is such a good girl." The woman smiled and patted my head.
Looking at the woman's kind face, I suddenly couldn't help but reach out and hug her.
"Yuan Ji?" The woman was slightly taken aback, then laughed and gently patted my back. "This child... is still being affectionate."
For a moment, I felt as if I had fallen into heaven.
"Mother..." I called softly, opening my mouth.
The woman smiled and helped me lie down. "Good boy, get some sleep and don't catch a cold."
I obediently lay down, closed my eyes, and wondered if I was dreaming...
I actually have a mother?
As I lay there, I suddenly realized something was wrong. I came here to find Cao Cao, so why am I here?
I opened my eyes and saw that the couple who claimed to be my parents had already left. There were only a few maids in the room, so I threw off the covers and sat up.
"Miss, you're still not well. Master and Madam told you to rest well," the maids hurriedly surrounded her and said.
"Where is this?" After looking around, I belatedly realized that this was not the Prime Minister's residence.
"This is the Prince's mansion, the young lady's home." The maids looked at each other, not understanding why I was asking such a strange question.
I suddenly had a bad feeling, so I quickly got up and rushed to the bronze mirror.
In the bronze mirror was a little girl of eight or nine years old, as cute as if she were carved from jade.
I was dumbfounded. Wasn't this a typical case of soul transmigration?
But how could I possibly meet Cao Cao looking like this? He certainly wouldn't even recognize me! After realizing the harsh reality, I started pacing around the room in circles.
"Let's play a quiz!" After thinking for a while, I decided it would be better to figure out where we were first.
"What is a trivia quiz, miss?" The maids exchanged bewildered glances once more.
"It's basically me asking questions and you answering," I sighed.
"Yes," the maids replied hastily.
"First question, what's my father's name?"
"How dare we servants address you by your given name..."
"It's alright, I was the one who asked, it's none of your business," I said patiently.
“Wang Su,” one of the slightly bolder maids replied.
I nodded, but for a moment I couldn't recall where I'd heard the name Wang Su before. Asking the maids yielded no answer either.
There was no other way but for me to take matters into my own hands and go find Cao Cao myself.
I slipped out of the mansion gate and found the streets unusually lively. I walked for a short while and then got lost. Looking around, I was dumbfounded.
"Giddy up!" From afar, a horse galloped by, knocking over several roadside stalls.
I looked closely and saw that the person riding the horse was none other than Zhao'er!
I jumped up with joy. I had finally found someone I knew. Moreover, Hua Yingxiong said that my appearance affected Sima Zhao, which caused the rift in history. Although I returned for Cao Cao this time, my main task was to repair the history that I had altered, and Zhao'er was the one I was going to change.
Just as I was about to call out to him, I saw a little girl who looked about three or four years old standing in the middle of the road. Zhao'er actually whipped his horse and rode straight towards me without any intention of pulling back the reins.
Seeing that the child was about to perish under the horse's hooves, I quickly ran forward, picked up the little girl, and rolled her to the side. Fortunately, I was fast enough to narrowly avoid the horse's hooves.
Sima Zhao's horse was startled, and he reined in his horse, looking at me coldly.
I was slightly taken aback; Zhao'er's eyes were so cold and chilling.
"How dare you, you insolent commoner, block Young Master Sima's path!" A guard stepped forward and angrily rebuked him.
The little girl hiding in my arms was so scared that she started to cry.
I instantly flew into a rage. While gently patting and comforting the little girl, I stood up and angrily cursed, "You scoundrel who relies on his master's power!" After cursing the servant, I pointed at Zhao'er, who was riding on horseback, and shouted, "You! Get down here!"
Sima Zhao was slightly taken aback, then jumped off his horse and walked forward with a smile, "What a bold little brat."
A young girl with blond hair?! My lips twitched. This kid's got some nerve!
"I'm down now, what are you going to do?" Sima Zhao walked up to me and said coldly.
I was stunned. When did Zhao'er grow so tall?
I actually had to strain to look up at him...
Back then...back then he was such an adorable kid...
"There are so many people here, why are you riding your horse so recklessly in the street! What if you hurt someone?" I said angrily, standing on tiptoe.
"So what? What does it have to do with me?" Sima Zhao laughed, as if he had heard a funny joke.
"You actually treat human life like dirt?" I stared at him in disbelief.
Sima Zhao raised his hand and hooked my chin, leaning closer to me. "Whose girl is this, so presumptuous?"
"Damn it!" I slapped his hand away.
He probably didn't expect me to dare to resist him, and I swept his hand away in an instant, causing his left sleeve to roll up slightly.
I gasped and froze. His left arm was covered in scars, and the crisscrossing scars reminded me of four words.
Completely battered...
"Who? Who hurt you?!" I stepped forward, grabbed his arm, looked up at him, and asked through gritted teeth.
Sima Zhao was slightly taken aback, stared at me blankly for a long time, and then casually withdrew his arm, "You ignorant girl."
My lips started twitching. It seemed I had changed so thoroughly that this kid wouldn't recognize me at all.
"Zhao'er!" I cried out as I saw him leap onto his horse, ready to leave. He's just gone like that, who's going to guide me...?
