Chapter 2 The So-Called Time Travel

Chapter 2 The So-Called Time Travel

The street across the street was bustling with traffic. The traffic light flashed briefly and then turned red. I grabbed Aman and we stood to the side to wait.

I turned my head slightly and was stunned. Wasn't that the idol star An Ruo from earlier? Although she was wearing a pair of large sunglasses and an exaggeratedly big hat, I recognized her at a glance. Some people are born to shine, like An Ruo.

A man stood beside her, dressed in the same casual clothes as An Ruo, like a couple.

"Zhongying, you sent the driver away so early, now look what's happened, how are we going to get back?" She glanced at the man beside her and complained.

The man laughed instead, "I get dizzy sitting on that tortoise shell."

With a slight twitch of her eyebrows, An Ruo rolled her eyes helplessly. "The dignified Prime Minister of the Han Dynasty can actually get carsick?"

The Grand Chancellor of the Han Dynasty? Motion sickness? Please, what country are they using as a code? I'm getting dizzy just listening to it.

"Xiaoxiao..." The man looked down at An Ruo, his smile helpless but full of doting affection. "How about I carry you back?"

Xiaoxiao? I was slightly taken aback. Was that Anruo's nickname? No wonder Anruo looked up at me with such surprise when Aman was shouting loudly in the square. They shared the same name.

"Do you want to be on the front page of the newspaper again tomorrow morning?" An Ruo rolled her eyes, then leaned against him with a smile. "By the way, I just saw a very interesting girl in the square."

"Hmm? How interesting?" The man named Zhong Ying smiled and looked down.

“Her name is also Xiaoxiao.” An Ruo pursed her lips, smiling mysteriously.

"Hmm?" The man raised his eyebrows slightly, showing his curiosity.

“What’s even more interesting is… she gives me a feeling…” An Ruo looked up at the man, grinning from ear to ear.

Please, that kind of smile is really detrimental to a beautiful woman's image...

"How does it feel?" the man asked, intrigued by her question.

"Her eyes are lifeless, and her forehead is dark... Hehe... Just like me in the past, she looks like she's about to time travel and is going to be unlucky..." An Ruo laughed with a gloating expression.

The man raised his hand and gently stroked her head, which was beaming with joy, his face still filled with doting affection, as if his eyes were only fixed on the smiling, radiant woman before him. (First-hand, invaluable information found online!)

"Xiaoxiao, Xiaoxiao..." Aman was quite startled when she saw my blank stare and looked down at me, cupping my face and calling out to me.

I quickly snapped out of my daze, looked up at Aman, and gently stroked his cheek with one hand, my eyes filled with sorrow.

"Xiaoxiao?" A look of confusion flickered in Aman's innocent and wide eyes.

“Ah Man…”

"Hmm." When I called him, Aman nodded earnestly.

"I originally wanted to take care of you for the rest of my life..."

"Yes." He nodded.

"Sigh..." I shook my head, looking into his innocent, big eyes with a dying look, "If Xiaoxiao is no longer here, remember to take good care of yourself..."

"Mmm." Aman continued to nod obediently.

"Make sure you cover yourself well with a blanket at night, wash your face and brush your teeth when you get up in the morning, don't wear too few clothes in winter, and don't wear too many clothes in summer. Never lend money to Xiaohua next door, and... don't sit at the door waiting for your mother anymore..." I sniffed, feeling extremely sad.

"Is Xiaoxiao going on a long trip?" Aman finally reacted and grabbed my hand. "Then Aman will wait for you at the door and wait for Mom to pick me up."

I was slightly taken aback, then sniffed again, and very generously pulled the wallet I had just touched from my pocket and stuffed it into Aman's hand, "If you're hungry, eat something, but don't eat too much, or you'll feel uncomfortable if you're too full."

"Mm." Aman immediately switched back to nodding mode.

"And..." I gritted my teeth, steeling my resolve, "And, there's an oil paper package hidden in the crack of the toilet seat under my bed. Inside the package is a small notebook. Take that notebook to Aunt Zhang's bank on East Street. The password is my birthday. My birthday, you remember, right..."

"Mm." He nodded.

"Got it," I said, glancing at him again before sighing once more. I took out paper and a pen from my bag. Sigh, it's probably better to make a will, otherwise what if Aman gets scammed...

"Mommy..." A very sweet child's voice rang out. I turned my head and saw a little boy standing next to my idol, An Ruo, who was laughing heartily. I hadn't seen him earlier because I was so tense. What an adorable child... At that moment, the little boy was leaning against An Ruo with a beaming smile, his little arms outstretched, wanting a hug.

“Mo Qianchen!” The man named Zhong Ying frowned. “I’ll carry you.”

"I don't want Daddy, I want Mommy!" The little boy pulled his hand back, looked at his father with a smug look, and held his pretty chin high.

Zhong Ying was furious, glaring at her son, but her face showed utter helplessness.

"Hey, he's your son, why are you jealous?" An Ruo laughed heartlessly.

Two men, one big and one small, stared at each other.

I raised my hand and touched my head, chuckling to myself.

Why am I so nervous just because of one sentence from An Ruo...? Maybe she was just saying it casually... and I actually took it seriously... really.

"Mom, I bought a cookbook! I'm going to learn to cook lots and lots of dishes for you..." The little boy ignored the man who was staring blankly at him and turned around to pounce on An Ruo in a charming way.

"Good, good, good, Qianchen is the best..." An Ruo smiled and bent down to give her son a big kiss.

“Xiaoxiao…” Aman grabbed my hand and shook it gently.

I snapped out of my daze, grabbed his hand, and said, "Heh...hehe, let's go home."

"Just now..." Aman's clear eyes flickered with doubt.

"Ha...haha...never said anything..." I chuckled dryly, grabbed Chen Man, and pulled him back to the orphanage.

“Okay.” Aman nodded obediently.

"Wow, Mom, there's stinky tofu! Mom's favorite stinky tofu! I'm going to buy some for Mom!" The little boy shouted happily, carrying his small crossbody bag, and skipped and hopped towards the uncle who set up the stinky tofu stall in the food street across the street.

I smiled and pulled Aman along, looking at the cute little boy, and threw all the messy thoughts I had just had to the winds.

The little boy ran quite fast, and in no time he came back with a bag full of stinky tofu.

"Mommy, Mommy... this smells so bad, you'll definitely like it..." The little boy smiled and held up the stinky tofu in his hand, looking very proudly at his father across the street whose face smelled even worse than the stinky tofu.

I couldn't help but chuckle softly; what a happy family.

Suddenly, the smile froze on her lips as a blue sports car sped out from nowhere...

"Watch out!" I yelled, but the car showed no sign of slowing down.

Such a happy family... how could they become unhappy...?

Before I could even think it through, I had already taken off. I rushed forward, grabbed the little boy, and pushed him aside.

The little boy's shoulder bag and the stinky tofu he was carrying both ended up hanging on me...

I felt no pain at all. I instinctively looked down and saw the car pass right through my body, and I... my body was gradually becoming transparent, and then disappearing...

God... I'm time-traveling... No, no, I'm time-traveling... in progress...

"Aman, remember what I just said..." Suddenly, I looked up and shouted at Aman, who was standing there blankly.

Uh, which style of dressing am I wearing?
