Chapter 61 A Lamb Enters the Tiger's Mouth
Having tasted the deliciousness, I wielded my Swiss Army knife without any regard for appearances, putting it to the extreme as I sliced the meat! The muntjac meat was grilled until it glistened with oil, and although it had no seasoning, it was still incredibly delicious.
I let out an unladylike burp, then patted my full stomach, feeling utterly content.
Strands of hair around my ears fluttered gently as the evening breeze playfully slipped into my oversized robe, its cool touch brushing against my skin and billowing the bright purple fabric.
The black sky was dotted with cold stars, and suddenly all around became silent, so quiet. It was very strange. It was the same wasteland, which just before felt ghostly and dangerous, as if a ferocious beast or a ghost could appear at any moment... but now, there was only silence.
Through the flickering firelight, I glanced sideways at the man sitting opposite me. He was cutting off another piece of deer meat and reaching out to hand it to me. I raised an eyebrow slightly, puzzled. Was it just because he was there? Even though it was the same scenery, I felt far removed from any unknown danger? So safe.
I unceremoniously took the piece of roasted meat, and ate it with my mouth full of oil. Finally, I came to a conclusion. It was all thanks to the sweet and delicious roasted venison and the warm fire. All my sense of security came from the warmth and the good food.
Clearly, I forgot that warmth and delicious food are the creators.
"Achoo!" My nose was itchy, and I sneezed loudly. Even though I was sitting in front of the fire, I couldn't help but shiver slightly. Could it be that I caught a cold from falling into the water earlier?
My throat felt dry and parched, and I moved my lips slightly.
Seeing this, Cao Cao turned to the side, took the water bag, and handed it to me.
I took it, pulled out the stopper, tilted my head back and gulped it down. Then I threw the water bag aside, stuck out my tongue repeatedly, and felt a spicy sensation rush from my mouth straight into my throat, burning all the way to my stomach.
"Wait a minute, it's wine." Someone glanced at me casually and said belatedly.
I coughed repeatedly, choking on the smoke, but I didn't forget to glare fiercely at the innocent-looking culprit. As I glared, the man's image gradually became blurry in the firelight, and he began to sway from side to side.
"Stop shaking me!" I yelled angrily, feeling like my throat was on fire. I staggered forward, plopped down on the ground, cupped his face in my hands, straightened him, and leaned in close, practically nose to nose with his, eyes glaring at him. "I want water! Water!" I shouted.
“You’ve caught a cold; alcohol can ward off the chill,” the voice replied softly.
My vision was a little blurry, so I shook my head, trying to clear it.
His warm, slender hands gripped my shoulders, helping me lie down on his lap. His voice sounded surprisingly gentle, "Take a rest. You've worn out your mount; it'll have to spend the night here."
"You're the one who cut it! You 'whoosh' chopped off its head with one stroke!" I shouted indignantly, raising my head and gesturing wildly as I recounted the story.
"Okay, I chopped it. You can go to sleep now."
"You chopped it!" I continued to yell.
"Yes, I chopped it." With a hint of helplessness, the voice was surprisingly good-natured.
I grumbled and rested my head on his lap again.
"Why did you run away?" He added some dry branches to make the fire burn brighter, and spoke as if casually.
"Huh?" I blinked my slightly dazed eyes unconsciously, lying on his lap, staring blankly up at him.
"Isn't it good that I'm marrying you?" He raised his hand to wipe the grease from the corner of my mouth.
I shook my head with a grin.
"Why?" The voice carried a hint of coaxing.
"You womanizing bastard!" I frowned, accusingly, feeling a little dizzy.
"Luo Bu?"
"I don't want to be a substitute puzzle piece! Look carefully! My name is Pei Xiao! Not An Ruo! I only want to be Pei Xiao, even if I die, I will only be Pei Xiao! I hope that if someone loves me or hates me, it will only be because I am Pei Xiao! Not anyone else... just Pei Xiao..." I shouted indistinctly with a thick tongue.
"Oh, I see..." A hand gently stroked my forehead. My forehead was probably very hot, and the hand felt slightly cool, which felt very comfortable.
"Mmm!" I nodded vigorously, extremely restless.
"You've always just been Pei Xiao..." the voice rang out again, "So, would you be willing to stay by my side?"
"Hmph! Three wives and four concubines! A house full of women!" I shouted at the top of my lungs, my tongue twisting uncontrollably, "Of all the waters in the world, I only drink from one..."
"What will it take for you to stay obediently by my side?"
I laughed triumphantly, my eyes narrowed as I smiled, and gently shook my index finger, loudly announcing, "NO! I won't stay by your side no matter what!"
The hand that was gently stroking my forehead froze slightly.
I shifted around in dissatisfaction.
"I see..." After a long pause, the voice murmured, "Why?"
"Hehe, I'll only tell you this in secret!" I lowered my voice, beckoned to him mysteriously with my index finger, and put my arm around his neck, making him lower his head. I leaned close to his ear and whispered in his ear, "That Cao Cao is so wicked. He couldn't keep An Ruo, so he forced me to stay as a substitute! He even put this damn heart-wrenching knot on me... preventing me from going back... I want him to know that even if I can't go back to my own era, I can't keep me here!" I said, holding his shoulder, sounding triumphant and extremely excited, when I felt his body tense up slightly.
"So, you're not going to stay?" the voice asked again.
"Yes." I nodded without hesitation, like a chick pecking at rice.
Suddenly I felt a chill in the air, and I shivered and instinctively snuggled into his arms, seeking a warmer place.
He remained motionless.
"Water...I want to drink water..." I mumbled, my throat so dry it felt like it was on fire.
A slight coolness touched my lips; something covered them, carrying a hint of predation. I shook my head uncomfortably and struggled to open my eyes wide, seeing Cao Cao's magnified face.
"Sweetie, here's some water." He turned his head and took a sip of water from another water pouch, then covered my lips with his.
Having tasted the water, I greedily wanted more, and unconsciously reached out to pick up the moving "water bottle" and began to suckle.
The breathing near my ear grew heavier and heavier.
After a long pause, he seemed to hesitate slightly before stiffly pushing me away.
Leaving that warm embrace, I shrank back, instinctively using my hands and feet to crawl back into it.
I stared at him blankly, my eyes fixed on those incredibly alluring thin lips. Then, I awkwardly leaned forward and stuck out my tongue to lick them.
The "portable kettle" tilted back slightly, and I pounced on it like a tiger pouncing on a sheep, fiercely warning, "Don't move!"
I used too much force and tackled him to the ground, landing on his human cushion. My robe was ripped open, and a blast of cold air rushed in.
The wind blew, and I clung tightly to that warm, human-shaped pillow, refusing to let go no matter what.
Those slender, warm hands gently stroked the back of my neck, caressing it as if intentionally or unintentionally, like teasing a cat, with a mischievous yet affectionate touch.
I felt as if I had been tickled, and I squinted my eyes in pleasure.
"If I take you now, will you hate me?" A soft, gentle voice whispered in my ear.
I chuckled foolishly, like a koala, and climbed up a little higher, rubbing comfortably against his chest.
A gasp.
"If I eat you, you'll be mine, right?" He spoke with a hint of restraint, as if he were negotiating with me.
I'm still smiling.
The hand that was stroking the back of my neck slowly slid down...
It tickled, and I chuckled and twisted my body, cluelessly unaware that I was already in the tiger's den.
