Chapter 71 Surrender
It turned out that they all appeared together to report Guan Yu's surrender.
They quickly prepared to welcome Guan Yu. Such courtesy to a surrendered general showed that Cao Cao truly valued Guan Yu.
Seeing Cao Cao nod and discuss matters with his generals, I took advantage of everyone's inattention and carefully shrank behind Cao Cao to cover my burning cheeks. Fortunately, Cao Cao was tall and strong, so I was safely hidden.
I was laughed at by Dian Wei and the others early in the morning, and I could only blush bright red, my face even redder than my clothes. "A face as red as a peach blossom" couldn't be more fitting... I comforted myself with a bit of Ah Q spirit.
"Your Excellency is a man of great foresight. After we withdrew our troops as promised, Guan Yu indeed kept his word and returned to Xiapi to visit Lady Gan and Lady Mi. He has now come to pay his respects to Your Excellency," Xiahou Yuan said, clasping his hands in greeting.
"Guan Yu has always been upright and honest, and he will never break his promise." Cao Cao smiled slightly.
Listening to their discussion about military affairs, I turned around listlessly, and unexpectedly saw the bronze mirror opposite me. In the mirror, one was dressed in bright purple, and the other in fiery red, leaning against each other, a perfect couple.
A perfect couple? Who?
Upon closer inspection, the woman dressed in men's clothing, dressed in fiery red and nestled behind Cao Cao, was none other than myself! I was startled and immediately jumped three feet away from him.
To my surprise, Cao Cao seemed to have eyes in the back of his head. He grabbed me with his hand behind my back, making me unable to move.
Cao Cao looked at me with a smile, "We're going out of the city, would you like to come along and take a look?"
"Leave the city?" I stared wide-eyed at Cao Cao with longing in my eyes.
Cao Cao chuckled and nodded, "Yes, let's leave the city."
Wow, out of the city! Once I'm out of the city, maybe I can escape in the chaos and wreak havoc on the martial world...
I had no idea that my eyes were gleaming and my ambition was written all over my face. I only saw Cao Cao smiling with his eyes narrowed, making him look more and more like a big fox.
"Doggy! Let's get out of town!" I dashed out, grabbing the dog and preparing to run away together.
When I stepped out of the mansion, I was dumbfounded.
They were all riding on horseback, looking very imposing.
Can someone tell me how to ride that horse?
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Cao Cao riding a horse, the sunlight casting a golden halo around him, making him look like a celestial being. And at that moment, this celestial being sat smugly on his horse, waiting for me to ask him for help. Did he know I couldn't ride a horse?
"Doggy, horse..." I pointed and turned to look at Doggy. "Can you ride it?" Just kidding, if I'm riding with Cao Cao, why would I run away?
The dog smiled and nodded, "Mmm."
As he spoke, Gou'er nimbly and gracefully mounted his horse, then reached out to pull me up, "Sister," he said with a smile.
I stared at the hand; like the person, it was clean and beautiful, with long, slender fingers and distinct knuckles. He was indeed a beautiful child.
Holding that hand, I struggled to climb onto the horse's back. Although my posture wasn't very elegant, I managed to get on.
After settling down behind the dog, I turned to look at Cao Cao, ready to show my defiance, only to find that he had already turned his head away and resumed his usual expressionless demeanor.
I had no choice but to reluctantly hold the dog, fearing that I might accidentally fall off the horse and end up with a broken arm or leg.
I felt the dog's body stiffen slightly, and I looked at the peek out suspiciously. "Doggy, are you ticklish?"
The dog nodded eagerly, "Mmm."
"Oh, then I'll hold on tighter, that way it won't itch." I quickly pulled my hands away, actually because I was scared.
The dog laughed and said, "Mmm."
"Let's go!" Xiahou Yuan said, waving his hand.
The dog spurred the horse and caught up with the group.
"Doggy, who taught you to ride a horse?" Sitting behind Doggy, I was quite curious, as I had never known that Doggy could ride a horse.
"My father."
Staring at the still somewhat childish figure in front of me, I didn't ask any more questions. I just subconsciously hugged him a little tighter, this time not out of fear.
As they walked out of the gate, they saw Guan Yu leading dozens of riders, also arriving covered in dust.
Upon seeing that it was Cao Cao, Guan Yu dismounted and bowed, saying, "Thank you, Prime Minister, for sparing my life."
His so-called grace of not being killed was not related to himself, but rather to Liu Bei's two wives, Lady Gan and Lady Mi.
When Guan Yu surrendered, he was surrendering to the Han Dynasty, not Cao Cao. Although Guan Yu surrendered, if he ever learned of Liu Bei's whereabouts, he would travel a thousand miles to him. This is loyalty.
Guan Yu surrendered not to save himself, but to ensure the safety of Lady Gan and Lady Mi; this was out of righteousness.
There are some people who are always upright and indomitable, and there are some people who are always honest, upright, and fearless of death.
"I have long admired Guan Yu's reputation for loyalty and righteousness. Meeting him today, I can see he is indeed extraordinary." Cao Cao dismounted and personally bowed to help Guan Yu up.
"Thank you for your kind words, Prime Minister, but if I were to find out where my elder brother is in the future, I fear I would fail to live up to your kindness."
“If Xuande were still alive, it would be perfectly understandable for you to return to your former master. However, his fate is uncertain today. Yunchang, you can put your mind at ease for now and inquire about the situation later.” Cao Cao smiled, his face humble, and his words were full of righteousness.
I am amazed. It has been clearly established that Liu Bei surrendered to Yuan Shao, yet he lies without batting an eye.
"Thank you for your consideration, Prime Minister," Guan Yu said, clasping his hands in greeting.
Poor Guan Yu. Cao Cao was right; he was indeed "upright and honest." If he was truly upright, how could he possibly outmaneuver Cao Cao's cunning and treacherous nature?
I looked around and, finding no one paying attention to me, I couldn't help but grin from ear to ear. I tugged at the dog and then sneakily tried to slip away.
Taking small, quick steps backward, I turned around and tiptoed.
"Where does Madam wish to go?" A calm voice came from behind.
Husband...Madam?!
I choked on my saliva and turned my head to see the dog being held in Dian Wei's hand, while Cao Cao squinted his fox-like eyes and looked at me with a half-smile.
"Heh...heh heh..." I chuckled dryly, then straightened my aching back, strode forward, and slapped Dian Wei's hand away with a righteous indignation, "Bullying the weak with your strength, aren't you afraid of ruining your lifelong reputation!"
Dian Wei is a typical straightforward person. After I snapped at him like that, his face flushed slightly, and he stammered as he released the dog.
I pulled Gou over and saw the red mark on his wrist. I felt a pang of sympathy and, grabbing his hand, glared fiercely at Dian Wei. "Look!"
"How can a grown man have such delicate skin like a girl?" Dian Wei muttered after glancing at him.
The dog blushed instantly and withdrew its hand.
I glanced at him sideways, and Dian Wei quickly shut his mouth.
Turning around, he saw Guan Yu.
When Guan Yu saw me, he paused for a moment, then pursed his lips and remained silent.
