Chapter 74 A Bolt from the Blue (Part 2)

Chapter 74 A Bolt from the Blue (Part 2)

Hua Yingxiong looked at me with a complicated expression, as if he wanted to say something but hesitated, finding it difficult to speak.

My body was a little sore and weak. I leaned against the cushion. Seeing him like this, I raised my eyebrows, then lowered my head. Usually, when a doctor has this expression, the patient is in trouble.

"Just tell me," I forced a smile, silently chanting to myself, "I'm Xiaoqiang, I'm Xiaoqiang, I'm Xiaoqiang... the Xiaoqiang that the wind can't blow away and the rain can't knock down..."

"Hmm?" Hua Yingxiong looked up at me with some surprise.

"Tell me, do I have some incurable disease? Or..." I clenched my fist, then relaxed it, my palms sweating. "Or... am I going blind? Deaf? Or am I crippled after falling from my horse?" I blurted out, nervously clutching Hua Yingxiong's sleeve, my palms sweating, imagining my miserable state and breaking out in a cold sweat. Heavens above, I'm in the prime of my youth, how can they turn off the light of my life at its brightest... There is no more cruel thing in the world...

"Stop! Stop! Stop!" Hua Yingxiong yelled, shaking off his hands, covering his ears.

I stared at him wide-eyed, looking utterly pitiful.

"What's wrong? What happened?" Hearing the commotion inside the carriage, the curtain was suddenly lifted, and Cao Cao poked his head in. He was obviously waiting outside the carriage, and his face showed some anxiety.

"The diagnosis is still underway. Please wait a moment, Your Excellency." Hua Yingxiong politely pulled down the carriage curtain, keeping Cao Cao outside.

"Go ahead and say it, I'm prepared." I looked up at Hua Yingxiong, pursed my lips, and murmured softly.

"You're pregnant." The doctor from Huada University looked at me clearly and announced the news in a low voice, as if afraid that people outside the car would hear.

I breathed a sigh of relief and laughed, muttering, "You should have said so earlier, it's just pregnancy, pregnancy...pregnancy?...What did you say?" My smile froze on my face, and I looked up at him, wondering if I was hallucinating.

"You're pregnant." His voice was very soft, but it felt like a thunderbolt from a clear sky to me.

The smile on my face faded little by little, and my face turned pale. I subconsciously looked down and clutched my stomach.

I'm pregnant?! Are you kidding me?!

I bit my lip, my hands were trembling. What did pregnancy mean? Was there a new life inside me? Was there a tiny baby growing inside me, then popping out and calling me Mommy?

"What's wrong?" Hua Yingxiong cupped my face in his hands; his hands were warm, but my face was cold.

I slowly tilted my head back and looked at him, a hint of fear in my eyes.

"You are an orphan! You are a wild child!"

"I'm not! I'm not!"

"Your parents don't want you anymore, you're an unwanted wild child!"

"I'm not! I'm not! I'm not!"

Before I was eight years old, I would often argue with the children next to the orphanage, with two snotty noses and two tears in my eyes, stomping my feet and throwing a tantrum, trying to make them believe that I was not an abandoned child, not a wild child that no one wanted.

That day, I made a scene again and was beaten until my hair was disheveled and my face was scratched in several places. I got angry and, in a fit of rage, picked up a pebble and threw it at the little boy who was half a head taller than me.

The little boy had blood streaming down his forehead; it was a bright, striking color, like the sunset on the horizon.

Then a plump woman came out, picked up the little boy and cried her heart out, calling him her precious darling. Then a tall man came out, glared at me fiercely, and slapped me across the face.

It was very heavy and painful. Half of my cheek was swollen high, and blood was seeping from the corner of my mouth.

"Dad... Mom..." The little boy, gaining more and more power, cried even louder.

I gritted my teeth and glared at them fiercely, the taste of blood in my mouth was strong.

"My dear little girl..." the fat woman said with a look of heartache, then glared at me, "You little brat, no one has taught you or raised you!"

When the aunties at the welfare home heard the news, they rushed out, pressed my head down, and made me apologize to them.

She apologized hastily, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. This child has never had a mother. Please forgive her this time, considering how pitiful she is, how young she is, and how she doesn't understand..."

I saw the fat woman give me a disdainful look, her eyes full of contempt.

The tall man waved his hand, "Forget it, forget it, consider us unlucky. Look at her, she's an orphan, so pitiful."

That condescending tone.

That night, the sunset was as red as blood.

I stood there, watching the little boy being carried home by his mother.

He made a face at me, "A wild child nobody wants, a wild child nobody wants..."

I pursed my lips, not crying, my cheeks burning with pain.

An unwanted wild child...

"What's wrong, what's wrong..." Hua Yingxiong gently patted my cheek to bring me back to my senses.

I looked up and stared at him blankly.

She suddenly snapped back to reality and grabbed him, crying, "Don't tell him! Don't tell Cao Cao! Please!"

Hua Yingxiong gently pulled my hand down, looking at me with a complicated expression.

The carriage curtain was pulled back again, and Cao Cao frowned. "Have you finished your examination? What is it?"

Hua Yingxiong straightened his slightly wrinkled clothes, slowly turned around, and smiled respectfully. "It's nothing serious, just a slightly irregular pulse, probably due to the long journey. Let's have a proper diagnosis after Madam has rested."
