Chapter 76 Do You Love Me?

Chapter 76 Do You Love Me?

I don't know when Hua Yingxiong left. I sat blankly by the fire, one hand covering my stomach, until the flames gradually died down, without even noticing.

My abdomen was still flat. I could hardly believe that a tiny life was growing there. It was truly amazing.

A night wind blew in, quite chilly, and I couldn't help but shiver slightly, instinctively protecting my abdomen.

Suddenly, I felt a warmth on my shoulder. I turned around in surprise and saw a bright purple robe on my shoulder. Looking up, I met a pair of narrow eyes.

"It's chilly at night. You're not feeling well, so why did you come out?" He sat down beside me, naturally pulling me into his arms with one hand while using the other to tend to the firewood and make it burn brightly again.

I just stared blankly at the rising sparks, at the leaping flames, without pushing him away; I even felt a little reluctant to let go of that warmth. Perhaps, because he was the father of the child in my womb?

"What are you thinking about? You seem lost in thought," he said with a low chuckle.

I turned my head to look at him. We were very close; I could even feel his breath. I looked into his eyes, looking at him intently.

Am I also allowed to hope for happiness?

Can I be happy?

What is the definition of happiness? I don't know, I don't understand, because I've never experienced it.

I looked at my reflection in his eyes. Was the woman in his eyes really me? Just me? Just Pei Xiao? Or was I just a shadow, just a piece of a puzzle, just a... substitute? I was doubtful. Could he give me a home? There were too many women around him, far too many.

I suddenly remembered the children who called him "Dad".

Am I supposed to share a home with another woman every day, right next to him? Am I supposed to make my children share a father with other children, just to get that pitiful amount of love?

Perhaps sensing my hesitation and fear, he cupped my face in his hands and asked, "What's wrong?"

What I saw in his eyes was an unmistakable pity.

I lowered my eyes slightly and immediately noticed the jade pendant tied around his waist—that cheap jade pendant, the one I had given him.

He always kept it with him.

"I'm a little cold," I murmured.

He smiled and held me tightly in his arms.

I shifted, snuggling closer to him to find a more comfortable position.

He laughed, lowered his head and kissed my forehead, "You've been incredibly well-behaved today."

I closed my eyes and felt his kiss land on my lips.

"Do you love me?" I suddenly asked, still with my eyes closed.

There was no reply for a long while.

I slowly opened my eyes and looked at him.

He raised an eyebrow slightly, surprised, then chuckled, "Is that important?"

I saw uncertainty in his eyes.

I curved my lips into a smile, closed my eyes, concealed the emotions within, and remained silent.

I think I have the answer.

The cold stars in the sky twinkled, as if they too were sighing in secret.

I gently hooked my arms around his neck, tilted my head back, and awkwardly kissed his lips. He raised his eyebrows slightly, clearly enjoying the kiss and deepening it.

One hand gently slid down, quietly slipped into his collar, and caressed his broad chest, beginning to shamelessly and unscrupulously take advantage of him.

He cursed under his breath and grabbed my unruly hand.

I chuckled, but to his dismay, I tilted my head and licked his neck, then gently bit him, like a vampire. His body trembled slightly, and he leaned close to my ear with a hint of gritted teeth, "Don't regret it."

I just smiled, remained silent, and ate the tofu with great seriousness and persistence.

I felt his body getting hotter and hotter, and I almost burst out laughing.

A night patrol soldier walked over from the side.

I felt a slight lightness in my body as he carried me back to the tent.

The tents were very simple, yet the atmosphere was somewhat alluring, as if they might breathe fire.

I grinned and made a wicked tiger pouncing on a sheep, completely devoid of romance.

"Drunk again?" He squinted at me suspiciously, then leaned closer to smell the alcohol on me.

I was actually a little nervous. I reached out and hugged his waist tightly, then stood on tiptoe to kiss him.

Seeing my clumsy appearance, a smile appeared in his eyes. He lowered his head to kiss me and gently unbuttoned my clothes with one hand.

I didn't drink this time; I was perfectly sober.

I couldn't be more clear-headed...

It was just a fleeting moment of pleasure, a moment of joy, a dream.

Moonlight quietly filtered into the tent through the gaps in the roof. I watched Cao Cao sleeping soundly, his breathing even. I had never seen him so unguarded, without a trace of calculation or scheming. Before, even when he was asleep, he was always three parts awake.

So, this is my chance.

I slowly got up, put on my clothes, and walked out of the tent.

I wonder if he'll be furious when he wakes up tomorrow and finds me gone? Haha, if he finds out the older one ran away and even took a younger one, I wonder if he'll be so angry he'll die?

Avoiding the night patrol guards, I took a detour, when suddenly a tall figure blocked my way.

I was startled. The clouds blocked the moonlight, and I couldn't see the person's appearance in the darkness, but judging from their figure, it didn't seem to be Cao Cao.

A gust of wind blew, scattering the clouds, and I could see the man standing in front of me.

It's Guan Yu.

I instinctively took a step back, stepped on a dry branch, and it made a "snap" sound.

"Who's there?" A soldier came running at the sound of the voice.

"It's me," Guan Yu said in a deep voice.

The guard greeted him respectfully and then walked away without approaching.

I looked at him, biting my lip and remaining silent.

"Come with me." He turned around, pursed his lips, his face as cold and hard as iron, without a trace of expression.

I had no choice but to follow him. I was a little confused. I hadn’t said a word to him the whole way. What was he trying to do?

"I..." I opened my mouth, about to say something, but he suddenly pulled me behind a tent. When he gestured for me to be quiet, I quickly covered my mouth and nodded.

He only let go of me when a small patrol of soldiers passed by, and quickly walked ahead, saying, "Excuse me."

Knowing he was helping me, I quickly followed him closely, shaking my head with a grin.

He escorted me all the way out of the military camp without saying a word.

After walking for a while, he suddenly stopped. By the moonlight, I saw a horse tied up in front of me. Its whole body was as red as blood, without a single stray hair.

"Red Hare?" I exclaimed in surprise. Isn't that the famous horse from the Three Kingdoms?

"You also know about this horse?" Guan Yu was somewhat surprised, his expression softening slightly. "It was given to me by Prime Minister Cao."

Cao Cao? He spared no effort in trying to win over Guan Yu.

Guan Yu mounted his horse, then pulled me onto it as well. With a spur, Red Hare galloped like the wind.

Among men, Lü Bu was the best; among horses, Red Hare was the best. It is said that Red Hare was originally Lü Bu's mount, and it was truly majestic.

"Where are you going?" Guan Yu suddenly asked.

"Xiapi City." I paused for a moment, then quickly replied.

"Hmm," he responded, and then remained silent.
