Chapter 94 Three Chicai

Chapter 94 Three Chicai

"Ahem... well... I'm sorry to have startled you all. Today it's my treat, everyone eat to your heart's content!" I coughed twice, eager to change the subject, and turned to wave to the crowd of onlookers, speaking with great generosity.

Rouge immediately understood, turned around and greeted everyone with a sweet laugh, "Please feel free to eat whatever you like."

The lobby instantly became lively again.

Lu Su was overjoyed, "So generous?"

I slowly turned around, grinned, and said, "Our Chunfeng Deyilou restaurant has a signature dish. I wonder if you would be interested in trying it, sir?"

"Oh? Tell me about it?" Lu Su asked with a curious look.

“This dish is called ‘Three-Chili Vegetable’,” I said with a grin, revealing my gleaming white teeth.

"What a strange dish name..." Lu Su asked in confusion, "What's the meaning?"

I chuckled, crossed my arms, and dutifully explained, "The main ingredient of this dish is a newborn baby mouse, preferably one whose eyes haven't even opened yet—tender, smooth, and pink..."

Lu Su's eyes widened, he took a step back, and braced himself against the edge of the table with one hand.

"Then serve with the best sauce..." I squinted, my mouth watering.

Lu Su looked pale and was on the verge of collapse.

"Oh? Then why is it called 'Three-Chirp Vegetable'?" Lord Gongjin asked casually, looking at me with a smile, seemingly very interested.

Seeing that Lord Gongjin had finally given up on discussing those "unspeakable past events" with me, I swallowed hard, grinned, and explained in great detail, with a hint of flattery, "Those newborn mice, alive and well... when you pick them up with chopsticks, they squeak once; when you stir them in the sauce, they squeak once more; and finally... when you bite them, 'squeak!' This is what is called 'Three-Squeak Dish'!" I told him with great enthusiasm.

"Ugh..." Lu Su finally couldn't hold on any longer and rushed out.

I watched with a smile as Lu Su stormed out the door, but then I saw Zhao'er walking in from outside. I couldn't help but feel a little puzzled. When did he leave?

"Sister," Zhao'er laughed when she saw me looking at her, "If you're treating us, then Chunfeng Deyilou won't have any revenue today."

I waved my hand and laughed nonchalantly, "There will always be someone willing to take the fall."

"oh?"

"Hehe..." I chuckled mischievously, shaking the money pouch I had just taken from Young Master Li's arms. "Today it's my treat, Young Master Li, you're paying!"

As soon as I finished speaking, I suddenly paused, meeting a pair of smiling, beautiful eyes. It turned out that the question "oh" didn't come from Zhao'er's mouth, but from Lord Gongjin!

Uh... he's an official, right? Officials and thieves have always been irreconcilable enemies...

I was indeed carried away by my own success.

"Ouch!" I suddenly exclaimed.

"What's wrong?" Zhao'er rushed to my side immediately.

The girls in the building also turned to look at them, their eyes filled with worry.

"Kick... Baozi kicked me... Ouch, ouch, ouch..." I frowned, one hand half supporting my waist, shamelessly using Baozi as a shield.

"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid," Zhao'er said, quickly helping me back to my room.

"Take good care of Lord Zhou and Lord Lu! Put all the dishes they order on my tab..." With Zhao'er's help, I hurriedly tried to slip back to my room.

"Lord Zhou?" Lord Gongjin frowned slightly, his voice calm and indifferent.

My heart jumped into my throat, and cold sweat began to pour down my back.

"How unfamiliar. You were just calling me Gongjin." Lord Gongjin said quietly.

I was dumbfounded, and I forced a stiff smile. "Father-in-law... Gongjin..." I actually stuttered. How embarrassing.

"Just the word 'Gong' will suffice," Lord Gongjin said with a smile.

"Ah...it hurts, it hurts..." The person opposite me was under too much pressure and was about to suffocate. I yelled and let Zhao'er help me back to my room. I slipped away as fast as I could.

I stayed in my room for half a day, not daring to go out, until dinner time, when I finally went downstairs.

"Have you heard? Young Master Li is dead." Qiaolan suddenly said mysteriously while they were eating.

"Yes, yes, I heard that something went wrong with the horse. It suddenly went mad and threw Young Master Li off the horse, killing him on the spot..."

"Hmph, karma."

"That's right, that's right..."

Zhao'er lowered her head and carefully served me the food, seemingly oblivious to everything, maintaining her usual silence.

I was drinking my soup when I suddenly froze. Young Master Li was dead? Thinking of that extremely arrogant guy from earlier that day, I frowned slightly. Could it have been Zhou Yu who did it? Impossible. Young Master Li hadn't offended him, and he had already been taught a lesson back then. There was no need for him to do it again.

After dinner, I felt a bit tired, so I went back to my room to rest.

As I was taking off my clothes, someone suddenly knocked on the door.

Rouge pushed open the door and came in, carrying a bowl of soup, which was medicine to nourish the fetus.

I reached out and took it, drinking it sip by sip. The medicine tasted extremely bad. If it weren't for my hope of giving birth to a healthy little bun, I wouldn't have forced myself to drink something so awful.

"Young Master Li's death..." Rouge began, slightly hesitant.

"What's wrong?" I looked up at him, my hand holding the soup bowl tightening slightly.

“Madam Pei, when Young Master Li pushed you down, his eyes were terrifying,” Rouge frowned slightly, “as if… he wanted to kill me.”

My heart skipped a beat, but I laughed. "Zhao'er is so well-behaved, she wouldn't even step on an ant. You've misjudged her."

Rouge stood up and nodded. "Yes, I misspoke."

As I watched Rouge walk out the door, I slowly suppressed my smile. Suddenly, I remembered the smile on Zhao'er's lips when she entered. It was clearly a smile, but it had a somewhat ambiguous quality.

Holding the pillow, I slowly got up and strolled leisurely to Zhao'er's room, where I gently knocked.

"Who?" Zhao'er's voice was unexpectedly cold.

"Me." I hugged my pillow and spoke.

"Sister?" The voice immediately softened, and she hurriedly opened the door.

After following Zhao'er into the room, I put my pillow on the bed and lay down comfortably.

"Sister?" Zhao'er looked surprised.

"Zhao'er, how long has it been since we slept together?" I said, my voice thick with sleepiness.

Zhao'er blushed immediately.

I stepped back and patted the empty seat next to me.

Zhao'er lay down slowly, his face so red it could boil an egg. I laughed; it was in this embarrassment that he seemed like a child.

"Young Master Li is dead," I said calmly after a long pause.

"Mmm," Zhao'er responded.

"Zhao'er, is that you?"

After hesitating for a while, Zhao'er nodded.

I knew he wouldn't lie to me. "Why?"

Zhao'er bit her lip and remained silent.

"Don't do that again," I sighed softly.

"Mm." Zhao'er nodded.

I stroked his head and murmured, "Sleep..."

The night passed peacefully.
