In the fourth month of summer in the third year of Jingyou Period in the Great Song Dynasty, in the rear pavilion of Zichen Palace.
The pavilion was very spacious, with tortoise and crane longevity palace lanterns placed on both sides of the gate. Two palace maids were holding lanterns on the other side, and the room was filled with candles emitting a soft, hazy yellow light.
A green-glazed three-legged incense burner with string patterns is placed in the middle of the hall. Curls of green smoke rise from the incense burner, emitting a faint fragrance.
A young man in a light blue silk brocade robe sat on a pearwood armchair. He was about twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old, with a youthful and handsome face and a slender body like a clean willow. His right hand supported his chin and cheek, and his eyes were slightly absent-minded as he looked at the green smoke rising from the incense burner in front of him.
In front of the young man stood several elders who were over fifty or sixty years old. They all had white hair and beards, or gray hair, and stood solemnly.
"Your Majesty, according to the booklet of interesting historical stories, there are the Xia, Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han, Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Sui, Tang, Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties..."
One of the elders had a broad, resolute, and solemn face. He stood before the young man and said in a deep voice, "There's also the story of Sima Guang, the son of Sima Chi, the prefect of Tongzhou, smashing a jar. I've sent someone to inquire about it, and it's true."
"If that's true, then my Great Song Dynasty will perish, and what will replace it will be a dynasty called the Yuan Dynasty?"
The young man clenched his fists.
"Yes."
The elder said.
The old man's name was Lü Yijian. He was the Minister of the Secretariat, the Grand Secretary of the Jixian Hall, and the Duke of Shen in the Song Dynasty.
The other five were named Wang Sui, Wang Zeng, Cai Qi, Sheng Du, and Song Shou. They were the co-directors and assistant ministers during the Jingyou period of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty. They were the three ministers and three assistant ministers, commonly known as the prime minister and deputy prime minister.
The young man sitting above is naturally the first emperor in history to be given the temple name "Ren", Emperor Renzong of Song, Zhao Zhen.
He is only twenty-seven years old this year and has just been in power for four years.
"Has that person's identity been ascertained?"
Zhao Zhen asked.
"I can't find out where it came from. It suddenly appeared in the back garden last night during a rainstorm. Among the things I brought with me was a strange object. It had a portrait of this person on it. It said his name was Zhao Jun, and he was born on February 15, 2000. On the back was written the Resident Identity Card of the People's Republic of China..."
"Besides these, are there any other things?"
"I have an acceptance letter for volunteer teaching, a volunteer teaching training certificate, a student ID from Renmin University of China, some clothes, a small iron box and a large iron box, a bunch of bottles and jars, some black and white thread, and other books..."
"how?"
"I can't understand it. What are the interesting physics experiments, basic chemistry reactions, the 100 required elementary school poems, Chinese geography, nature, and science... Not only are some characters hard to understand, but there are also some very erotic characters."
"The word 'Da Shi'? Could he be a Da Shi?"
"I don't know. The numbers in it are Dashi characters, which appear in some Buddhist scriptures. They were introduced to my country along with Buddhist books during the late Tang Dynasty, but the Song Dynasty didn't include them. Also, there's a map in the Chinese Geography that looks like it's from the Song Dynasty, but it's not. The provinces in it are completely different from ours, but the place names and locations are exactly the same."
Lu Yijian told everything in detail.
Zhao Zhen hesitated for a moment and asked, "Do you think... could he be from many years from now?"
"Officials, do not blindly discuss the daily practices based on the vulgar words and superficial opinions of the common people."
Lu Yijian immediately advised.
This sentence means that you should not use strange theories to speculate about things that are difficult to understand.
"Then how do you explain these things?"
Zhao Zhen asked.
"There must be some other reason, but don't speculate first. Instead, find a way to verify it."
Lu Yijian said.
“How should we verify this?”
"Ask Yan Shu."
"Yan Shu?"
Zhao Zhen frowned.
He did not like Yan Shu very much because Yan Shu was once commissioned to write the epitaph for Renzong's biological mother, Li Chenfei, in which it was said that Li Chenfei only gave birth to a daughter who died young.
Later, when Zhao Zhen learned the truth about his biological mother, he was very unhappy and planned to hold Yan Shu responsible. It was Lu Yijian's persuasion that saved him from being demoted to Yazhou. Instead, he was sent to be the prefect of Jiangning. This year, he was summoned back to the court and appointed as the Minister of Punishments and Chief Censor.
"Yan Shu is smart, maybe he has a solution."
Lu Yijian strongly recommended Yan Shu. Since Yan Shu was his man, he naturally had to find an opportunity to help him regain his position.
Zhao Zhen thought about it, and finally nodded and said, "Call Yan Shu."
After a while, Yan Shu came in and bowed to Zhao Zhen, saying, "Your Majesty."
Lü Yijian then recounted the entire incident, and at the end he asked, "Do you think there's any way to verify this?"
Yan Shu thought for a moment and then asked, "How is that person?"
"He was unconscious. The imperial physician said it was blood stasis, a blockage in the blood vessels in his brain. He was awake for a while, but when he woke up, he found that he was blind. He fainted again out of shock. I think it was caused by the blood stasis."
"Then this matter is easy to handle. I think that after he wakes up, we can go over and observe his words and actions. Try to speak less and listen more."
"Why not just ask him?"
"If he truly is from the future and knows he's in the past, will what he says still be completely true? If he throws out some statements to confirm his claims and convinces us, won't he be able to slander whomever he wants? The decision will then be his: do we believe him or not?"
"What Uncle Tong said makes a lot of sense."
"So he must not be allowed to know where he is, so that he can tell the truth."
"Um."
Zhao Zhen nodded slightly.
At this moment, a eunuch hurried in and bowed, saying, "Sir, that man has woken up again."
