Chapter 518 Reunion, Three Years Later
Yu Changze stood up, looked at her, and said seriously, "This person's background is unknown. Don't trust him easily."
"I need to find out who they really are. I need to know who I am and why they abandoned me in the first place."
“Perhaps, this answer is meaningless at all.” Yu Changze’s eyes were filled with complex emotions. “Go back to Beicheng. The Yu family is not as simple as you think. You already have your lover and family now, so don’t dwell on your background.”
"It seems you know quite a lot." Song Lanyin said coldly, "But I'm not one to be trifled with either. I just want to get to the truth. I want to know why I'm the one who was abandoned when we were both born of them. Why can Yu Xin grow up freely under their favor, while I have to be heartlessly discarded by them! They even preferred to raise you, who have no blood relation to them, rather than me."
Yu Changze wanted to say something, but Song Lanyin had already turned around and left.
He watched Song Lanyin's retreating figure, his expression complex.
...
When Song Lanyin returned to the film crew, she had nowhere to go, so she went back to the cafeteria alone.
My phone is vibrating in my pocket.
It was Wen Jingxi calling.
She looked at the caller ID, and although she hadn't felt anything just now, when she saw Wen Jingxi's call, her nose suddenly stung with tears.
She sniffed, cleared her throat, pressed the answer button, and held the phone to her ear.
"Wen Jingxi," she said softly, "I miss you."
On the other end, Wen Jingxi was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and said, "I missed you too, and I was just about to call you, but you called first."
He paused for a moment, then asked, "A-Yin, is everything going smoothly for you?"
"Well, it went fairly smoothly." Song Lanyin tried to keep her voice calm. "How was your day? Your parents weren't angry, were they?"
"They weren't angry, just a little disappointed. They asked me to ask you when you're coming back. If you can come back in two or three days, they'll be waiting for you in the North City."
“I’ll go back tomorrow,” Song Lanyin said.
She figured her trip to Hong Kong would take several days, and she couldn't keep the Wen family elders waiting for her too long. She decided to go back to Beicheng first to meet them before heading to Hong Kong.
"So fast?" Wen Jingxi pressed, "Have you found your family?"
"No, we only found out the information was wrong when we got there."
Wen Jingxi hadn't expected this outcome. "Don't be too sad. You'll find it eventually. I'll help you look for it next time, okay?"
"It's okay, I don't plan to look for anyone else." Song Lanyin said casually, "Anyway, I'm married to you now, and your family is my family too."
She has no intention of acknowledging the Yu family; she only intends to find out the truth of what happened back then and then never mention her background again.
When Wen Jingxi heard her say that, he didn't know what to say for a moment.
He knew that Song Lanyin would be sad and disappointed if she couldn't find her family, but she didn't want to show it, so he didn't expose her anymore.
"What time will you arrive at the airport tomorrow? I'll pick you up." Wen Jingxi's voice was gentle. "How about I take you home?"
"Okay, I should arrive this afternoon. I'll send you a message before I board the plane."
"Okay, I'll tell Grandpa and Mom."
"Um."
After hanging up the phone, Song Lanyin put down her phone, covered her face, and sighed heavily.
She figured she wouldn't be able to find a ride down the mountain at this hour, so she decided to spend the night here.
Just then, footsteps came from the tent entrance, and the windproof curtain was pulled open.
Song Lanyin looked up at the sound and saw Qi Mingxuan, wrapped in a coat, walking in from outside.
"President Qi," Song Lanyin said, somewhat surprised, "what brings you here?"
Qi Mingxuan smiled slightly at her, "Director Yu sent me."
"Yu Changze?"
"Well, he said you came so suddenly you probably didn't book a room, and it'll be hard to find a ride to the city at this hour." Qi Mingxuan walked over and sat down across the wooden table from her. "If you don't mind, why don't you stay in my room tonight?"
"Wouldn't this be too intrusive?"
"How could it be a bother? We're already acquaintances, there's no need to be so formal."
Hearing her say that, Song Lanyin no longer hesitated to refuse.
The two got up and walked out of the cafeteria, heading towards the houses across the street.
Qi Mingxuan's room was on the west side of the first floor. The room wasn't big, but the bed was quite large.
Once inside, Qi Mingxuan took out a clean set of pajamas from her suitcase. "The bathroom is the third one on the left after you go out. They don't have private bathrooms here, so you'll have to make do."
"Thank you." Song Lanyin smiled at her and took the pajamas.
This kind of environment was nothing to her, a woman who had been a secret agent, but it was indeed a bit too simple for a young lady like Qi Mingxuan.
Song Lanyin took her pajamas to the public bathroom to take a shower. When she returned, Qi Mingxuan had already made the bed.
Qi Mingxuan walked over, took the clothes from her hands, and hung them on the hanger. "Are you leaving tomorrow?"
"Yes." Song Lanyin looked at Qi Mingxuan. "Wen Jingxi is waiting for me to come home."
Upon hearing this, Qi Mingxuan turned to look at her.
"It feels good to have someone waiting for you at home, doesn't it?"
"Yes." Song Lanyin looked into Qi Mingxuan's eyes. "You also have many family members waiting for you to come home, your children, your brother, and your friends. President Qi, your life will only get better and better."
So you need to get better as soon as possible.
To truly get better from the heart.
Qi Mingxuan smiled, "I will go back."
"Then see you in Beicheng next time," Song Lanyin said with a smile.
"Okay, see you in Beicheng next time."
That night, Song Lanyin and Qi Mingxuan lay in bed together and chatted for a full half hour.
Song Lanyin was mostly talking about her and Wen Jingxi.
Qi Mingxuan could feel the sweetness of a couple deeply in love from her calm narration.
She thought that a relationship that is mutually supportive is truly beautiful.
The cold wind howled outside the window.
The man stood in the night, a cigarette between his fingers, its glow flickering in the cold wind.
He didn't bother her.
This time, he came here only to watch over her and to bring her home safely.
He's been here for a week, and Qi Mingxuan has never seen him.
She might not know he was coming, or she might know, but she never asked.
Little did Song Lanyin know that after this parting, they would not meet again for three years...
